My family ritually gets the pies for birthdays. Banana cream pie, blue berry and Kalua cream cheese are own favs. Today I came in for breakfast while waiting for family to get a procedure at the hospital across the way. I ordered a humongous chocolate chip cookie w my coffee, because you can do that here. Haha MARICELA was so attentive, she walked me to my table and kept me topped off with coffee. She gave me time to make a decision and made sure I had what I needed to enjoy it. We chatted about coffee and preferences, which elicited the sweetest memories of when I first drank coffee. Thanks for that Maricela! I ordered the eggs Benedict with bacon instead of ham. No regrets. I have been here before for lunch/dinner and had the Salmon Cajun style and i still dream about that dish. They serve alcoholic drinks also. For that little warmth to take the edge off. Lord knows we need that sometimes. Overall a great community restaurant that needs to stay right here for us. The closest Marie Calendar's near me closed 3 years ago. I was happy to be near this one in Whittier and made a special stop. I love their turkey club croissant sandwich (buttery, flaky, flavorful), apple pie (perfect crust and not overly sweet), corn bread (perfect texture: moist with a bit of grain in every bite), chicken pot pie (100% comfort food and again with the perfect pie crust), and their fresh strawberry pie (this is my all time favorite since I first had it as a child - core memory!). The fresh strawberry pie is MUST try! Cailin, my server was so friendly and helpful. 5 stars for her excellent service. There is plenty of free parking on site. The ambiance is pure nostalgia. It had been ages since I had been to a Marie Callender's. (There aren't that many still around.) My nostalgia got the best of me, though, and I visited the Whittier location which is, supposedly, one of their better ones. Overall, I was pleased. This is one of their classic locations, with a separate bar. Sadly, the former salad bar, though still there, sits empty. The service started off poorly. They still do a lot of take-out business, and it seems this takes priority over seating guests. Once I was taken to my table, however, I was greeted by a terrific server who clearly took pride in her job. I had a tuna melt, something I've been checking-out at a lot of places recently. The version here was one of the better ones. Overall, a very good experience. I'll be back again soon. This is yet another one of those classics that deserves to stick around. And there are many more classic dishes on their menu to get reacquainted with. read more

Me and my family LOVE it here!!! It's the best the food is always good service is always amazing and I just love the comfort being at this restaurant brings me. It's so sentimental for my family since it was my grandma's favorite, but their food is honestly always so delicious so we're happy to visit. I get the pot pie trio every time and it is so much food! Was really impressed by how staff handled the huge unexpected crowd on a weekday night. I believe it was busy because of the Rose Bowl, not sure, but on January 7th, it was packed! They didn't even have enough servers to open every table area. But despite it all, they moved quickly and had top notch customer service. Shout out to Jackie for being super sweet and amazing! Didn't know Marie calendar's still existed. Husband took the fam here to see how it is. Beef stroganoff still as good as I remember it! I don't know of too many places that serve that dish so I'm happy to be able to have it again. Cornbread is more like cake than bread (which is what I prefer... moist and soft) and the garlic bread is really good too. It's nice and quiet on a Sunday night. I eye roll at the kids choosing Kraft Mac and cheese kids meal (pricey at $12.99), but they let us substitute garlic bread for fruit and it was a nice selection.... They let my girl choose only watermelon so she was happy. Service was pretty good, food arrived much quicker than expected. The kids didn't finish the placemat activities yet! Let's start by saying I have lived in Whittier area my entire life so Marie's has been an institution for me. Service hear is always friendly and quick. The food is what you would expect from Marie's good quality prep of the standards. Their cornbread continues to be world famous. The Cobb salad I so enjoy has changed over the years, but its is still one of my go to places for that salad. The Vegetable Minestrone was exceptional and surprised me on how good it was although should be served a bit hotter. The decor and all its charm remains the same although it's very dated. Needs an infusion of capital to modernize the dinning area - WITHOUT losing the Cooper ceiling and what makes Marie's recognizable. Good example - lose the salad bar which has turned in to storage for cutlery and napkins. Keep Going Maries !! read more

This is actually an older review I had saved in my drafts and never posted. I came in with my mom to place our Thanksgiving order. We ordered several pies, apple and a couple of lemon cream pies, along with cornbread. I prepaid for everything and scheduled pickup for the day before Thanksgiving. I arrived right when they opened, handed over my slips, received the boxes, and left thinking everything was taken care of. Unfortunately, when I got home and checked the order, it wasn't complete. I called the store and was told I would need to come back in either to get the rest of my order or request a refund. I was beyond annoyed. It was already a busy holiday week, and the whole point of prepaying and scheduling pickup was to avoid extra trips and stress. Instead, I ended up driving back in rush hour traffic when I really shouldn't have had to. Long story short, I returned and picked up the rest of the order. While the items themselves were fine, the inconvenience left a bad impression. When I'm told my order is complete, especially for a holiday, I expect it to actually be complete. Based on that experience, I probably wouldn't order from them again. read more

In all honesty I didn't know what to expect from Marie Callender's. However my visit and experience was amazing! Shoutout to Thalia for being an amazing waitress and helping me out with the menu! She helped answer any questions I had and also checked up throughout the meal. I got the soup, half sandwich and slice of pie combo! The soup was the vegetable soup and was very tasty. The sandwich was the French dip supreme and was delicious! Although I think the au jus could've used just pinch more salt. My favorite part was the extra crispy French fries ‍‍ I got the French apple pie and it was soo delicious. Definitely consider adding some ice cream to it. Came to this Marie Callander's in Whittier after not being here in over 20 years and we were sat right away and serviced by this amazing fun energy server named Eric, he gave me the recommendations of having breakfast Chilaquiles. I must say I was very impressed with how delicious these turned out to be. The food came out fast as well as my mimosa which was one of his favorite specials, orange and Cran juice to mix with our champagne. The Blueberry berry streusel muffin was such a hit. I love it all here thank you for having such amazing service and an amazing server. The food was delicious. The food was great, no doubt, but what really made the visit memorable was our server, Maricela. She was top shelf from start to finish. She checked in on us at just the right times, answered all our questions with patience, and carried herself with a big, genuine smile the entire time. Of the various Marie Callender's I've been to, this has to be the newest and most friendly of the restaurants. The entrance is well organized with a roped off entrance to be seated or to order pies. The bar is also well stocked and a nice Saloon sign points where to go. This community is well taken care of and no problems finding parking. Sometimes they are a little understaffed, but many of the waitresses work their asses off to compensate. Today Maricela was our waitress and the poor thing was covering two sections at once. Haven't been to Marie Callender's in forever. We decided to go for my birthday breakfast and had amazing service from Marisela! She was consistently filling out coffees, which we love. All the old decor looks kept, clean and really adds to the old times vibes. I have always loved Marie Callender's restaurants. However, we visited the Whittier restaurant and received the worst service ever. The server told us the coffee was fresh, but it was cold. She waiting time to place our order and to receive our order took over one hour! We had to walk out and pay the cashier because we could not get our check from the server. The server needs to be replaced ASAP. The potato cheese soup tasted like sliced potatoes heated in the microwave with velveta cheese. A side of fruit consists of 4 small pieces of fruit.
