I'm a pretty loyal customer when it comes to getting my hair cut....and I have to say, Mario's Original Barbershop is my shop for life! I've been going there for quite some time now, and I always leave feeling like a new (and improved) man - for a measly $20! Not only is the cut and fade done perfectly, but he gets out the straight razor and cleans up all of the lines on my head and neck too (I have a beard). Absolute worst experience I have ever had getting my hair cut in 38 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Could tell it wasn't going to be good the minute I walked in, I am positive the barber was high, eyes half closed slurring and couldn't communicate at all. Kept asking me questions I did not know how to answer (like I said in 38 years I have never had to explain how long I want this and that in cm's) that is the barbers job! Find what a customer wants and supply them with it, simple! After buddy started digging into my scalp with the clippers, so much it was painful, I started wincing and then laughing at him, he got upset and we decided to part ways mid haircut. So I took my "frier tuck" hair down the street to chatters and it was all fixed painlessly in 15 minutes. On the way out buddy was telling me that he is not the busiest barber in Edmonton for nothing! Well considering I walked in at noon and there were empty chairs and no line ups, I would have to call bullshit on that one. Stay away from these clowns, zero clue how to treat customers, I wish there were negative star ratings. read more

I usually bounce around from place to place to get my hair cuts so my review may not be as helpful to everyone. I walked in at about 5PM on a Thursday, every seat was take but I didn't wait long at all. I gave a brief explanation of how I wanted my top trimmed and the sides at a 1. He started with the sides and asked me if it was good enough and that was that. The cut took less than 20 minutes and I was very satisfied with what I got. The barber also asked how I wear my hair so he designed it differently. He examined his work to trim any loose hairs and also fixed the sides of the top so they were even (butchered from my last cut) . It looked great and the price was very reasonable. read more

Gotta say I have a new favourite barber shop in town! The waits are not too long cuz they have seasoned barbers that can do a cut in approx 20 minutes. Their waiting room has some comfy couches and a TV so you won't be bored. They also have the remote there so you can pick your channels depending on the majority I guess. I get my hair cut by Cody, a cool New Zealander that's been living in Canada for 6+ years now. He understands my hair, the current trends and how to make me look GQ! I pretty much trust his judgement now even though I would normally shy away from anything too extreme. Most recently he used a straight razor to cut a line where my part goes and it actually made it look really sharp for about 10 days. Then my hair grew in and you couldn't see it anymore. Cody also works on beards which is helpful cuz a barber can get a perspective on the beard that I can't even get myself. On Cody's recommendation I'm using a product called layrite which is really good. It's like a wax, sculpts my hair and smells good. It's more expensive then my other stuff but you use less so the jar lasts longer. At $20 a cut its a pretty fair rate and if he works on your beard its an additional $5. Tip well cuz they depend on that to supplement their wages! read more

Ive had two haircuts from here. Both were not very well done. Very unevenly cut bangs, did not cut how I asked. Would not recommend.

I have had two haircuts at Mario's Original Barbershop in Edmonton. The first haircut was one of the best haircuts I have ever had; the second was probably the worst. The first haircut was done by Mario, the second was not. It seemed obvious that the person who cut my hair the second time had not received any professional training. Mario came over a couple times and would show him how to cut my hair. At the end of my haircut, my bangs were twice as long on one side as they were on the other (it was supposed to be straight), the neckline was crooked, and he cut a chunk of hair out of the back of my head. When I arrived home, my wife pointed out how horrible the back of my head was so I phoned and said I would be coming back to get my hair re-cut. Good thing I got the longest attachment used on the sides and back the first time because Mario had to cut my hair to less than half the length I asked for in order to even everything out, and that chunk of hair at the back of my head that was still slightly visible after his fix. I cannot believe that Mario a) treated his barber shop like a classroom b) did not come over at the end of my haircut and check on the haircut c) made me pay for that haircut and d) let me walk out of his shop with that haircut. If you want a great haircut, get one from Mario, if you want a horrible hack job that may require two trips to end up with something you did not want, let the other guy do it. read more

I got a haircut and there was some miscommunication between the barber and I. He blamed it all on me and was quite argumentative. Later when someone else was looking at my hair, it was noticed that it was quite uneven and quite poorly done. I would suggest that this was the worst $23 haircut I have ever got. I will have to find a proper barber to try to fix it. I would not recommend going to this shop. On the plus side there were comfortable chairs to sit in. read more

Came here because I needed a cut and my regular barber is not open on Sundays. Decent cut far from special. Was in the chair and out in less then ten mins and for a fade that is a bit quick. There website advertises a straight razor touch up for the standard cut but i was never offered it. Most likely will not be back unless I am in another jam for a cut. read more

I've been coming to Mario's for over a year now. The haircuts are great, I've settled on a look that I like and mostly just get it maintained now. My advice for people who are not familiar with a traditional barbershop is that you will get an even better and more consistent look if you stick with the same shop, or if you are picky the same barber time and time again. I was impressed from the start with Mario he gave me good advice and helped me over a few cuts develop a style that works for me. I now trust him, Rob and Alex will have me looking sharp when I walk out the door. Best cut in town. read more

So I am tight for time one day and decide to try Mario's because it is next to Safeway. I walk in expecting to see an old Italian man ,instead i am greeted by this young kid who couldn't have been more than 20,in fact the only other employee at the time was another young female.I should have listened to the alarm bells in my head and walked out but being tired I decided to just get it done. First I had to explain what a "high & tight" cut was then I had to remind her what clipper guard to use. She had all the delicacy of someone trying to shear a sheep ,didn't brush me off at the end as well and then said this would be $18 something! Needless to say I didn't tip her,next time I'm too lazy to see my regular barber,I'll just use the clippers on myself! read more

Very disappointed with the service here. Went here to get my first ever hot towel shave after growing a beard for the past 3 years, and the experience was terrible. It was not until after the shave that the barber let me know that they didn't have hot towels (it was my first time so I wasn't sure when it was supposed to go on). Regardless, he still charged me for a hot towel shave even though I didn't get the hot or cold towel. My face feels terrible. Absolutely unacceptable. The ethical thing to do would have been to let me know before shaving me that they did not have towels. Instead he just went for it. Will not be going back here again. Also, the prices that are on their website are not what they have in store. Worst yet, they do not actually have any prices listed in their store. So, when I went to pay, the charge was higher than on their website. All around misleading. I'll be going elsewhere next time. read more

I used to live in west Edmonton and went to a neighbourhood barber out there and they were ok then I moved downtown. Started shopping in the Oliver area and this is when Mario's was just starting up. Just moved to Edmonton and this was my first haircut. Had Alex cut my hair. Asked for a basic fade. I'll concede that my old barber just knew what to do with my hair and I had no idea what he truly did or how to articulate it to someone else, but Alex just took clippers around my head horizontally with no guards on and completely butchered my hair. he paid zero attention to the part. it didn't look bad at first but when I got home I noticed stray hairs everywhere and he had basically undone my entire style in a rush to get to the customers waiting in line. would not recommend. read more

Had a chance to see the place go from no one in there to walk-in after walk-in and each time Mario acknowledged people who came in and left. That's a guy who humbly gets how to be of service. I've gone to Mario's twice now the first time being around a year ago. The first time I received a very mediocre haircut and promised myself I wouldn't be back. Unfortunately I decided to give them a second chance and figured that if I had a different individual cut it I would be fine. That was not the case. The barber asked how much I wanted off in inches ... not how much I wanted left or even what size clippers I usually have on the side. He then proceeded to do a complete hack job which included catching my ear with his clippers (thankfully no blood on that one) and turning out a 15 min. cut which had a very obvious line as he only used one size for the sides and scissors on top. I never write reviews and I signed up just to warn everyone. This place is terrible. First time customer and the lady I had today should cut hair in the army. Literally all I wanted was a trim and she cut off all the hair I had been growing out. So incredibly frustrated! Also I looked at the other customers getting their hair cut and they were brutal as well. DO NOT GO HERE! Pay the extra $10 and go somewhere were they know what they're doing. read more
