My frist trip to the Starving Man was the day I arrived from a month study tour in Lucca, Italy and was desperate for a burger....SOMETHING that wasn't pasta or pizza! I had a burger and chips and it was pretty f---ing fit! I think I had fish n chips later in the week! MY FAVE! The other visits have been purely in search of one thing...a kebab! YUM! You can't really get anything like a good kebab in America (that I've found) and I enjoy them! A little lemon juice, ketchup and mayo! It's the great ending to a night out or sitting around my friend's kitchen table having a few glasses of vodka and a spliff! The food there is well made and delicious albeit not particularly cheap (damn you Southport) and the staff there are friendly and will happily talk with you for hours about good Turkish footballers (believe me; it happens every week when we go). They also have a punching machine in there (perhaps to curb the violent enthusiasm of the Southport residents) which causes much hilarity at three in the morning when my mates decide to show each other who can hit something the hardest. It has recently been refurbished and now offers a larger seating area - it can still get very busy though and often the queues are to the door and people trying to enter and exit can have to battle through small crowds. Recently it sported a very interesting (?) display of red pop bottles at the counter - not sure quite what that was about, but I had noticed it and others around me were commenting on it to - maybe the refurbishment budget hadn't quite stretched as far as they had hoped and they'd had to resort to something extra cheap and cheerful! For such a busy outlet, it is still small even after it's refurbishment and it is a place I would rather choose to do drive-though than sit in (and be seen in!).

A chap standing next to me noted that his order number had disappeared off the screen yet no food had appeared. I was in the same situation as the screen told me to pick up order 96 but there was nothing to pick up. Eventually after 15 minutes one of the staff asked me what I had ordered so I gave him the print out and thankfully I finally got the food order. Gotta say that the food was not as warm as I'd like but I wasn't prepared to wait another age in a queue that never diminished to get the order re done. There was a continuing queue backing up and people were impatient and rightly so. The staff literally couldn't be arsed. I got a 99p burger (up 10p) and an apple pie (deep fried) with a white coffee which was surprisingly ok. Not great but not bad. Next time we go to a Mc D over here it won't be this one and I'll settle for coffee.
