I've had extensive dental work over the years, including implants, crowns, and veneers, and I was looking for a dentist in Evansville who could manage more complex dental histories after moving from Louisville, where I had an excellent long-term dentist. My experience started off well. The staff was kind, the hygienist did a good job with my cleaning, and Dr. Jenkins was pleasant during my visits. The office itself could use some updating, but that wasn't a deciding factor for me. A tooth that was diagnosed as having a cavity was filled, but a few months later it began causing pain. When I returned, Dr. Jenkins recommended extraction. Because the tooth is in my smile line, I asked about the option of a root canal instead. During that discussion, cost was mentioned, and I made it clear I was willing to pay cash if insurance was an issue. Unfortunately, after that point, communication stopped. I attempted to call, email, and text the office multiple times and never received a response. I also stopped getting follow-ups regarding cleanings. It felt as though once my annual insurance benefits had been exhausted, I was no longer being treated as an active patient. I sought a second opinion from an oral surgeon, who informed me that the tooth does NOT need to be extracted or even need a root canal. The sensitivity I was experiencing was caused by a poorly done filling. This completely healthy tooth in my smile line would have been unnecessarily removed if I had followed Dr. Jenkins's recommendation. I'm now transferring to a new dentist and dealing with additional issues, including being charged an illegal $40 fee to transfer my digital x-rays (HIPAA regulations only allow reasonable, cost-based fees for medical records transfers). I want to be clear that the staff was kind, and I don't believe there was intentional malice. However, the combination of what appears to be a misdiagnosis that could have resulted in an unnecessary extraction, the complete lack of follow-up communication, and questionable billing practices has made it impossible for me to continue as a patient. I came here in 2023 with an emergency immediately after moving to Evansville. Dr Jenkins was very nice. She was honest with me, but at no point was she or her staff anything but kind. I had an infection, and she knew I was flying and called me after the appointment concerned about the pain I would feel in the airplane. We made the decision to pull the tooth (I originally had made another choice but changed my mind after she called). They actually got me back in the same day and did it. Dr Jenkins was thorough and caring. Then when I had my knee replacement a few months later, the office sent me a get well soon card, which was greatly appreciated. No one likes going to the dentists office, it is never fun. But I appreciate Dr Jenkins for being up front with me during an emotional time. And I appreciate her staff being so kind. I wish I would give this place 0 star. The dentist is extremely rude and racist. A friend of mine doesn't speak English, so she asked me to help her translate while she was there. The moment my friend walked in the place, my friend was very honest and told them she doesn't speak a lot of English, but she got me to help her translate throughout the whole thing. They came so rude and attitude change towards her after she said that. They made her bring $400 cash-- no big bills, with her at her appointment to pay. Like what? Who would have that much money in cash to carry around? Even before they started on anything, my friend of mine wanted to make sure how much it'll all cost in average. So I asked the dentist. How much for the 2 fills and a basic cleaning. The dentist said my friend needs a X-ray. She tried to tell us to do the unlimited X-ray for $200 plus, so I asked her if it's necessary bc my friend doesn't have a lot of money and her big problem is the 2 fill ins. Then she said, one time X-ray is $90 something. So I had to ask her one last time, is it mandatory or optional bc I don't know how it all works. I don't want my friends spend her hard work money on something that's not needed for what she wanted done. She said "it's the law." I mean, idk that's the law, I was just asking question bc I'm not sure how dental stuff works. Then I told her, if it's mandatory then go ahead n do it so she can get her teeth clean and fill in. She got so rude and mean telling us "you don't trust your dentist then we won't work on you. You guys can leave now." The dentist literally yank the paper thing they wrapped around her neck n told her to leave the place. I haven't say anything about trust here. We are just asking for prices, questions that we don't know about. How about them educate us something we don't know and learn how to speak to their customers nicer? Her tone is the most condescending and shameful tone. There was no education, there was no kindness, and I have never in my entire life been treated that way during any interaction, let alone for such a vulnerable environment and appointment. What's wrong with asking questions? If we don't know how much we are paying, how we gonna be at the end of its outrage prices? She's trying to tell us is over $200 for X-ray unlimited. then 90$ something for one time. We gotta do what's good for our pocket. If it's not mandatory then we won't do it. If it's required then go ahead. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone Especially if you're not crazy rich, you're first time, sensitive person, nervous person, you're not carrying cash bc if you pay card. "I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!! I am deeply disappointed and heartbroken by the way my daughter and I were treated by Dr. Maritza Jenkins at this dental office. My daughter is special needs, and I made it clear ahead of time that I hold Power of Attorney (POA) and an Advance Healthcare Directive (AHD) to support her when needed. The office assured me this would not be a problem. We arrived 20 minutes early for her appointment, but realized during check-in that she had forgotten her ID. We quickly returned home to retrieve it and came back in time to be checked in and seated. When the dentist came out to take my daughter back, she asked if I could accompany her. The dentist responded with, "Who is making the decisions?" I explained again that my daughter is capable of making her own decisions but sometimes needs help understanding things. The dentist then questioned the validity of my POA and AHD, despite never having asked for copies before. She claimed it was "illegal" to treat my daughter without having those documents on file--something that was never mentioned during our initial call or when we were sent home for the ID. I even offered to go back home again to get the paperwork while my daughter was being treated, but the dentist refused. What hurt the most was when the dentist looked at my daughter and said, "Since you can't be trusted to make your own decisions, I can't see you without the paperwork." My daughter tried to explain that she is capable but feels more comfortable with me present. Still, we were denied care. This experience was not only frustrating--it was discriminatory and demeaning. No one should be treated this way, especially someone who already faces challenges navigating the healthcare system. We left feeling humiliated and dismissed. DO BETTER!!! I hope this review encourages this office to reflect on how they treat patients with disabilities and their families. This is the worst way to conduct business. I went in for a minor repair which was done satisfactorily. However, while there, she told me I had 5 cavities and also needed a root canal. I had been to a very reputable dentist a couple years earlier who had complimented on how well my teeth were taken care of and had no cavities. That should have been my first clue. However, I decided to go back and have one of the so called cavities taken care of. It was not the usual experience I had had in the past with my one lifetime cavity or any my kids had. That should have been my second clue. She pulled on my tooth so hard that I thought she was going to take my head off. My teeth had been very strong! After that, I couldn't even chew on that side without a sharp pain. I went back. She did something but it didn't fix my problem. I refused to go back again because I needed at least one side of my mouth to chew food on. I realized later that she had intentionally broke my tooth, causing a problem instead of fixing one. I later discovered that what was causing my pain was a piece of broken tooth she had created which later broke off completely. Once that fell out, I now have a u shaped whole there that has sharp edges and traps food. I had no pain or problems evidencing any problems until immediately after she did what she did. And the fact that another dentist was impressed with my teeth just a year or two prior confirms she intentionally created my problems for profit. She should not be practicing in my opinion. Writing this review as I just left. This was my experience- I had two back to back pregnancies with severe hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition where I threw up 30+ a day, every single day and there was always acid in my mouth causing major dental problems for my back teeth. I was extremely nervous for going into this office in the first place, and made it very kindly and abundantly clear how vulnerable and nervous I was. The dental hygienist (red hair) that checked me in and gave me an xray and initially saw me was very kind. Dr. Jenkins came in and was so cold from the bat. With this being an all women's dentistry office I anticipated kindness and warmth (foolishly I assumed that), and experienced everything but. She proceeded to tell me how people with my condition don't have dental problems anymore and it's not common, and it's my fault for being in that position. I started to cry and tell her I didn't choose my condition, and it was out of my hands and she looked at me with a blank stare. "Well what do you want me to do here? You need the tooth pulled out so what do you want?" In the most condescending and shameful tone. There was no education, there was no kindness, and I have never in my entire life been treated that way during any interaction, let alone for such a vulnerable environment and appointment. The woman that came in after I told the Dr I need a few minutes to decide was a new dental hygienist and she was extremely kind. Dark hair and tall. I cried and told her how I felt like I was bullied by a high school mean girl and I have never been treated that way. She was kind and brought back the doctor who then told me I'm not brushing right and I need to do a better job. I can't make this up. Dr. Jenkins, I think it's time for you to do what makes you happy because your career clearly isn't it. There is no reason on God's green earth for you to be practicing a position that requires kindness, when you practice anything but. For your age and education I would've expected much better. You truly ruined my day, worsened my fear of the dentist, and have traumatized me. I'm in awe of how you're practicing while treating human beings this way. Edit- I just got home and called and requested to speak with the kind lady I initially met in the beginning and I let her know my experience, but she was also in the room for the first encounter with Dr. Jenkins. I thanked her for being kind but told her how in awe I was of the treatment. And I had to pay $100 on top of that, with no treatment done. She told me thanks for the feedback and that's the fee and hopefully I'll get my situation taken care of. I hung up disbelief. One of the worst decisions I have ever made was going to this dentist a year ago. That was re-affirmed today when I had an emergency do to faulty products she sold me like a used car salesman. When it broke, she let me know that she wanted nothing do with it further, leaving me in a terrible position that will now cost me thousands of dollars again. She has zero bedside manner! She called me a liar when I told her about the health problems that I have. These were confirmed by a doctor. She messed with my dentures so much that they would no longer stay in place. She blamed everything on my drinking soda. She refused to help me unless I agreed to stop drinking them. I was losing my teeth because of a confirmed disease. The music in the waiting room was up high. The staff quickly sent me out a back door while I was crying. I have never been treated so horribly. BUYER BEWARE! I really wish I could give negative stars for this place. I chose to come here before leaving for college a year ago, to get a cosmetic issue with my front teeth fixed because of the giant "GENTLE DENTISTRY" sign out front. But this woman is far from gentle. Let me stop and say that my front teeth are fixed. They look good. For her dentistry alone, I would give four stars. But her bedside manner was absolutely atrocious, verging on that of a horror movie (at least for those who fear the dentist.) Before coming here, I had a moderate fear of the dentist. I had always gone to another dentist who would allow me to listen to music and use nitrous oxide, which helped me to handle the situation with ease. But his strong point wasn't cosmetic dentistry, so I decided to find somewhere else to go. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but the day I went to Dr. Jenkins, she was rude, rushed through my examination, and scolded me for my snack choices (apparently pretzel sticks are too hard for your teeth). On Maritza Jenkins' website, it is stated that "Dr. Jenkins offers nitrous oxide but is rarely called on to use it." That wasn't my experience in the slightest. I asked several times for nitrous and she refused. After they had given me novocaine, I waited in the chair for the procedure and could see into the "room" across the hall from me. I could see a woman's feet jumping up and down on the chair from pain, and heard muffled shouts of "Ow!" coming from that direction. At this point, I began to have a panic attack. I was, once again, refused nitrous oxide. Because I had already had novocaine injections, I didn't want to leave. So I stayed, only to have Dr. Jenkins drill into my teeth before I was sufficiently numb, not stop when I asked for breaks during drilling to regain my composure, and then use her hands to COVER MY MOUTH AND NOSE TO KEEP ME FROM BREATHING while I was in the chair when I began hyperventilating and crying. So, yes, I walked out of her office with pretty front teeth for college. But would I do it again? No way in hell. I haven't been back to the dentist in a year because I am too scared. Now I can't even walk near a dentist's office without getting apprehensive. If you have even a slight fear of the dentist or want someone gentle, STAY AWAY. read more

The whole experience from this office was amazing, from calling to get an appointment from the receptionist who was sweet and got me in the next day, to the hygienists who were sweet friendly and gentle. And Dr. Jenkins was amazing. She was knowledgeable, kind, and you could tell she really cared about her patients. I got two of my wisdom teeth removed and I literally had no bruising or pain the next day. She even called to check on me the next day, which was so sweet and genuine . This office has an excellent staff. They each do their jobs very well. More often than not, I am seen on time. It is rare that I have to wait more than 20 minutes for my appointment. Sara, the dental hygienist, does a terrific job when cleaning my teeth. She is super sweet and does a thorough job without hurting me. She takes her time and avoids hurting me. Also, Dr. Maritza Jenkins is an excellent dentist. She is smart, witty and knowledgable. She has a ton of experience and stays current on the latest dental research. Dr. Jenkins spends a great deal of time educating her patients on the most current dental practice recommendations. She uses the latest equipment and technology to provide the best quality dental care possible without adding unnecessary costs. The exam rooms are clean and there is never any doubt about the staff's hygienic practices. This should go without saying but I have been to other dental offices in the area where the staff have had very poor hand hygiene techniques. That is certainly not the case with this staff. Personally, I have found that Dr. Jenkins has an excellent bedside manner. She is always professional, kind and takes time to get to know her patients. I highly recommend Dr. Jenkins and her staff. She has done an outstanding job fixing my teeth and correcting problems created by other less experienced dentists. read more
