Now I'm learning with Lorraine and I'm having so much fun! A number of people I know have learnt with this school and everyone has said all good things about it. I'm sure all their drivers are lovely, I know mine is! Can't wait to sit my test, i finally feel comfortable driving :D
A few years ago, it became apparent to my wife and I that we needed to buy a car for our expanding…read morefamily. We both had driver's licences but hadn't driven in a few years, so were quite nervous thinking about our first few trips in the brand spanking new hatchback. I got the hang of it pretty quickly, despite one terrifying evening of driving round north Belfast with the interior light on and the headlights off, wondering why the hell people were blaring their horns and shaking their fists at me. After a while, my extremely tentative wife asked me to take her out for a driving lesson. She made me promise not to shout. But, after swinging on to Sandyknowes roundabout at forty miles an hour in front of a bin lorry (which just missed us), one screaming fit (me) and a prolonged bout of crying (her), we decided not to pursue this obviously insane course of action any further, and to book a few driving lessons instead. We found a company in the local listings , and a guy called Manuel took my wife out for a few lessons. I wasn't there, obviously, but by all accounts he was calm, instructive and had the patience of a saint. All the qualities I lack, essentially. I still do the lion's share of the driving as the Sandyknowes incident has psychologically scarred me for life, but my wife has no bother now in jumping into the car for the school runs or whatever. Thanks folks, don't know how you did it!

As a parent and primary teacher , I have to completely disagree with the previous review. Both my…read morechildren go here as it was recommended to me on the strengths of excellent teaching and pastoral care. One of my children is very academic and is doing so well, she is definitely stretched and is expected to do very well at gcse and a-level. My other child has a statement of special need and is blooming as well. Neither has ever experienced bullying, of course there are loudmouths but you get that any school. The school is tied to letting you pick four gcses as the other four are compulsory (govt). I think taking 8 gcses is more than enough for any child.
Inclusive society and good chances for education. These are two things you will not receive here. A…read morelot of people don't know how to spell inclusive, they don't know what it means. There are particular groups of people who will harass you at every opportunity they can. They only let you pick 4 GCSE's and if you pick Double Award Science, only 3. Some of the rules here are nonsensical, and if you breach them, expect an awkward trip to your Year Head. The teachers are mixed. Some good, some not so much. All in all, this school is a disappointment because I would have expected more. Unfortunately, it is not the 'Best School East of Lough Neagh, it's not even the best school in Lisburn. If you don't listen to what they say and come here not expecting much, you'll be a little surprised. If you're smart and need a challenge, look elsewhere. In all likelihood, you'll be trapped in a class with loudmouths who never shut up, why? Well, because the class system is broken, too. You may be put in a class with the loudest, most annoying people ever for no apparent reason. And if you say anything, you'll be left hanging. Don't get me wrong, there are some good teachers who genuinely care about you, but, really, I would have expected more. Heed my advice, don't make this school your first choice.

It is nearly impossible to review this place because I was imprisoned/attended here for 7 of the…read morerelatively few years of my life. I went here from 1996 through to 2003. These were certainly transitional years for the school because of a child abuse scandal. This has meant that this school - which used to be a complete snobfest, and quite exclusive - was forced to take more pupils who had got lesser grades in their 11+. I may be just being a snob but I felt that this brought the tone of the place down and meant that there were a few hoods about. Despite this, and the schools almost ridiculous tendency to produce chauvanists and bigots I still have a soft spot for this place in my heart. It has a good sporting tradition, some excellent teachers, good grounds and a brilliant town centre location. I'll never get my teenage years back but I'm ok that I gave them up to this place.
