A very large Asian indoor market located in downtown Sydney, it reminded me very much of the Korean shopping malls located in multi-level buildings that were very popular in K-Town LA 10 years ago. But unlike in LA where they are not frequented, Market City was definitely hopping on a Friday afternoon. The vast majority of retail stores are Far East Asian (Chinese and Korean). There are grocery stores located in the bottom floor, along with beauty stores. There are also stand alone carts selling various knick knacks. It was worthwhile perusing them, and my brother ended up buying quite a few things. read more

This seemed like an Asian market. They had fruits and vegetables on the main floor. Upstairs there's a separate area for seafood with lots of different fishes and shellfish. There was a separate area for meats. There is also an area where clothes and accessories are sold. Mostly Asian. read more

Nice large spacious buildings with numerous shops and restaurants on the upper level and on the lower level is a flea market type set up with many different cheap touristy Australian souvenirs kiosks like shirts, keychains, magnets, mugs, glasses, stuffed animals, beer openers, post cards, photographs, purses, cosmetics (All made in China) Cheapest place any where to buy Australian souvenirs. There is a farmer's market set up for produce that is pretty decently priced and good quality. The upper part of the market features a food court, supermarket and numerous stores and shops. read more

Wish they had the level 1 market set up when I was down under. It wasn't as nice when I went, looked like a basic farmer's market back then. It was still a nice spot to browse around and grab some fresh fruits for an afternoon snack, especially with all of the heavy food we ate while in Sydney, rice and noodle dishes. Market prices are higher than at home, but then again I think the wages here were in the $22/hour too. read more

Market City is a shopping destination situated in Haymarket, above Paddy's Markets. With over 100 retail outlets, it offers a great shopping and dining experience. Market City has recently announced the opening of their new level 1 food court, to cater to hungry shoppers and visitors looking for a tasty bite to eat. We attended the opening ceremony, which included a traditional Chinese Lion Dance performed by Jin Wu Koon (Sydney's dragon and lion dance association). This in itself was very impressive. The Lion dance was offering new vendors prosperity and good luck, which was a nice touch. The performance was very entertaining with the band and lions said to scare away any unwanted spirits. The new food court is also impressive and has a stylish fit out, with plenty of seating, tables, benches and cushioned seats with personal tables, providing solace, a place to rest and enjoy a meal. The centre has gone above and beyond to look after all visiting diners and even installed a number of power and USB outlets for you to charge your phone or other electrical devices. Explore the Market City and the new Level 1 food court, with eight outlets offering a range of cuisines at reasonable prices. The Market City food court line up includes; Jorjarn serving up tasty Thai food and sweet drinks on the cheap. Plenty of greatp flavours on offer including their delicious Pad Thai, and the green curry is a must. Golden Tower Chinese/Malaysian with a great value hot bar mix and match or pick one of your favourites, maybe a Char Kway Teo. Kaedama Japanese Ramen Bar is a must, with their bone broth boiling away for hours. Try Lao Dong for some Taiwanese beef noodles. Their signature braised beef noodles are so flavoursome. Super Chef offers irresistible succulent BBQ pork, with the crispy duck on display, tantalising your tastebuds. Sushi Ko is perfect for a quick bite to eat, grab and go. Many years ago, I was a frequent patron. Whether it's my age or taste, I have no desire to go to Market City unless absolutely necessary. My biggest gripe with Market City is it's parking machines. With their new parking machines which registers car plates, I find the system VERY slow & the machines not very clear of how to insert tickets as well as when notes are inserted well, the machines seem to have trouble registering. The hold up creates a line up of people. With only 2 machines located in the middle each floor, I don't believe there's enough machines, especially when one is out of order. Also, upon exiting, the machine reading the ticket is slow. I have experienced this at the end of a concert so perhaps it's to slow the crowd down? Whatever the reason, I hope they are getting their ROI, because as a user, it's terrible!! read more

Great place to come for hard-to-find Asian ingredients or a decent Yum Cha. Located right above Paddys Markets it's also home to 30 factory outlet stores - although they're hit and miss. The IGA supermarket on Level 1 stocks a good mix of Asian and western ingredients, including sauces and vegetables as well as kitchenware. I often end up at The Eight Modern - a great Yum Cha restaurant at the top of Market City, run by the Zilver Group. read more

How I never made a review for Market City is beyond me. I've been living in Sydney for 11-months and 7 of those months were spent working at a clothing retailer in this center. With that preface being said, I think I'm capable of making a thoughtful review... Hopefully From a grocery store to nail salon, pharmacy to wig shop, tavern to video arcades, Market City has it all under one roof. There are a ton of shops you'd find here that you'd also find at Westfield or Macquarie BUT most are at outlet pricing here. Don't be afraid to ask for an additional deal/discount especially when you're purchasing multiple items - the manager can always make something happen. I frequented the food court quite a bit on my lunch breaks. It mostly has Asian food (Viet, Japanese, Thai, Korean, Chinese, etc..) but if you're desperate for a burger and chips, Oporto is just steps from MC. Food court is on Level 3 and a few other eateries can be found on Level 1. Paddy's Market is just below Market City so you can do all your souvenir and produce shopping after you buy yourself a nice outfit for the weekend. The men's restrooms can get a bit funky when MC gets busy but that's my only complaint. So plug your nose, do your business and get the heck out! read more

I can't get over the smell in the IGA here, but if you skip that part of the mall (and the rotten vegetables that are there) it's not bad. Lots of shops, near chinatown, so if you need to get away from the heat you can pop in here. read more

This is for Happy Chef on the 3rd floor food court. Excellent Laksa, the best of all Happy Chef locations and I've tried them all. It's the first place I go to on every trip, twice a month. I dream about it. They also make the best Chili paste ever. I load up on it every trip. Keep trying to get the recipe from them but it's one of their best kept secrets. Tried their regular broth as well, but way prefer the LAKSA. Exquisite. Every person I've taken there has absolutely loved it even if they've never had it before and they keep coming back for more. read more

Conveniently located a short stroll from my office, Market City often plays host to my lunch time, mainly because it has quite a good food court, although I have frequented this less since my discovery of Eating World and Dixon House food courts. It seems to have all the reasonably priced fashion stores, i.e. Giordano, YD and a Esprit outlet store, so it's not a bad place to come if you're looking for some cheap-ish clothes. As a shopping mall, it pales in comparison to the Westfield up the road, but it's not too bad. It's just not great either. read more

If you need to update your wardrobe and are looking to spot a bargain then it's well worth trying Market City down at Chinatown. It's a place where you'll find plenty of factory outlet stores that are always having a sale and trying to get rid of stuff. Honestly there are some pretty good shops worth looking at. If you're an absolute bargain hunter you can try Paddy's Markets down stairs. God knows what you'll find down there! If at some point during your shopping spree you need a break there is a food court upstairs which has some pretty popular Asian places to sample or if you need something stronger than food, then you may want to try the Market City Tavern located on the first floor. I'll be honest while I was half tempted, I didn't try it out. There's other food options scattered throughout but whatever you're looking for, maybe try Market City. You'll find something and more than likely at a good price. read more

This place reminds me of New York Chinatown all enclosed in one building. Cluttered with stalls that sell everything from austrailian souvenier, tshirts, phone cases, luggage, fake purses and all. I would highly recommend coming to this place if you need to but souveniers to bring back home. Items are much cheaper then anywhere else in Sydney. In the back there is a farmers market where you can get a plethora of asian fruits and veggies. read more

Here we have a shopping centre that features tonnes of factory outlets, food stores, an large Asian supermarket, restaurants, a tavern, an Asian food court, a massive video arcade and more. The supermarket is amazing, one of the largest Asian supermarkets in Sydney, pretty much all the Asian food you could imagine under one roof. Cheap prices too, and very clean and modern. Many people visit Market City for the sole purpose of visiting this supermarket, and I can't blame them. Well worth a visit. There is also an Asian butchery, seafood store and bakery in close proximity. There are also a number of clothing outlets on the first and second floors, many of which are factory outlets with heavily discounted prices, much less than at places such as City Beach or The Athletes Foot. A number of brands are here including Converse, FILA, Bonds, Lonsdale and Esprit, in addition to the regular shopping centre clothing stores such as Glue, YD, Cotton On, Tarocash, Supre, Jay Jays and Giordano. There are also a number of independent clothing stores. On the top floor there are a number of restaurants, including popular Cantonese yum cha restaurant The Eight, as well as an Asian food court offering a number of choices, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Indian. In my personal opinion this food court isn't as good as others in Chinatown, many of the stalls seem to focus the usual 'honey chicken fried rice' type dishes that you can get anywhere, unlike other food courts in the area which have more interesting choices. The Japanese ramen place gets a good write up though, as does the Vietnamese place and a couple of the Chinese places, so there's some gold to be found here. There are a number of other food outlets scattered througout the centre, can't really comment on them. There is also another, much smaller food court on the first floor, it seems to have a Turkish/Lebanese focus rather than an Asian focus. The top floor contains City Amusements, one of Sydney's largest video game arcades, which also includes dogem cars and a laser tag arena in addition to the usual array of video games. The arcade seems to be very popular with students from nearby UTS, as well as kids and teens. There are also a number of Asian-themed shops, such as an Asian music and DVD store and a Morning Glory outlet. Well worth a visit. read more

This mall is located above Sydney's Paddy's Market in chinatown. It houses a cinema and food court upstairs, designer outlets, phone accessories shops, souvenir shop, health food store, accessories shops and some food stalls. There's also a rather big Asian grocery shops inside this mall. read more
