It's Ireland's answer to Wal-Mart. Yes, I know I'm quite the phrase-maker, but it's true. Jamie W…read more and I came upon the expansive single-floor one in central Kilkenny as we were leisurely strolling to our hotel on Patrick Street after a hearty evening of lamb stew, slabs of Irish beef, pints of Guinness, and plenty of song at Kyteler's Inn (review: http://bit.ly/2lWIzzw). We saw a huge store through the windows looking downward at all the merchandise for sale - household wares, clothing, and a large supermarket (photo: http://bit.ly/2lCMTsc). There's just something about exploring a supermarket in a foreign land that gets me all giddy. Seriously. This market was huge and looked very much like any American supermarket toward the Whole Foods end of the spectrum. I knew I was in Ireland when I saw the extensive collection of whiskey on the shelves in the liquor section (photo: http://bit.ly/2mWrRVH). Faith and begorrah. As we crossed over to the meat section, everything was labeled Irish - Irish gammon steak, Irish back bacon joint, Irish chicken (photo: http://bit.ly/2lCSTRN). Proud stock they are on the Emerald Isle. Obviously proud of their meat. We just shopped for almost healthy snacks like chocolate-dipped rice cakes for the next day's road trip across the country to Dingle. Those were portable and tasty. Coincidentally, Dunnes was a takeover target of the Walton family at the turn of the millennium, but Ireland's major store chain remains family-run, presumably a wealthy family given there are over 125 stores in the chain. We found the stores so convenient that we ended up stopping at Dunnes in Galway and Dublin for our travel snacks.

Nice one stop shop! Dunnes offers clothing (decent quality, decent prices), home goods such as…read moretowels, linens, decorations, kitchen items, and FOOD! The supermarket was my favorite part as there's a great selection of meats, dairy products, sweets (candy, cookies, fresh baked cakes), coffee, teas, soda, chips... You name it.a great place for a tourist to see a European supermarket and to try the food! Also - this Dunnes has an awesome parking lot that is very convenient especially if you want to see the city centre.

Well first of all here's my first review of this place. I've already done reviews on yelp only to…read morefind they've disappeared along with photos. So if this one disappears I won't be doing another one. Right here it is. If one considers the tourist office as the centre of Mullingar then this place is about an 8 to 10 minute walk. Mullingar is a charming Irish town with a lot of character and darn good foodie places. Just beside the tourist office stands a statue of Joe Dolan a famous Irish singer alas now dead. I'm pleased to say I saw him live and wow what an unusual voice. He had a number three hit in the UK in the 1969 when the charts had Elvis In the Ghetto (originally titled the Vicious Circle) David Bowie Space Oddity, Credence Clearwater Revival Bad Moon Rising with the amazing voice of John Fogerty who brought bluesy swamp rock to the hippie masses; Fogerty also holds the distinct honour of being one of the few musicians to be sued for sounding too much like himself. I digress again. This centre is a tad unusual as it has local businesses in it including a local barbers, a florist, a jewellers, a fruit & veg shop and a local butchers. Most shopping centres have the usual multi national and national names. This place has Boots, Holland & Barrett, a CarPhone warehouse and also has Dunnes Stores selling food & drink in one store and clothing and shoes in another store. The local butchers Tormeys has an on site Himalayan salt dry cure beef ager so I bought a few sirloins. I didn't need a coffee so avoided the Esquires coffee place. Worth a visit if you are close by.

There is not enough room to explain why this spacious, well built and elegant place (the biggest…read moremall in Ireland) is so epic and enjoyable. The exterior and interior architecture and decor, the multitude of different shops of all kinds, the large go to chains, the everything under 1 roof vibe, the assortment of restaurants and cafes, the water fountain performances outside with even more to see and do including a huge beautiful movie cinema right next to a McDonald's and at least 15 other food choices, a pub and a buffet.... You are missing nothing here. This place is for everyone, it's not for rich people or mall rats like complainers say. It is spacious and has a huge indoor parking lot built better than most and yes there are maps. This place was done so well it's hard to complain anything and keep a straight face. Dundrum is so fun, elegant and beautiful. It's a beautiful weekly must. It is missing nothing. Ps Go here on Christmas and it's a wonderland too.

In the store Pennies for example we got a lot of souvenirs (Ireland t-shirts) to bring back to the states for literally €3.50. If you come here around 1&2 though all of the kids getting out of school come there to congregate lol. We saw this as we were leaving and there were piles of happy busy teens in their school uniforms coming into the mall.
