We came here to visit with family. The space is pretty clean and modern. Staff were friendly and helpful. We went on the outdoor tour and got to visit several historical buildings including a blacksmith, printing press, homes, and general store. Everything was interesting to get to see. Inside the main museum space, they were holding a "everyday superheroes" theme with different stations like firefighters, ambulance, hospital/vet, police, store, farm. There was also a dress up area. On the top level, there were keva bricks to build whatever you can imagine. Tons and tons of keva bricks. Price: Not too expensive to visit, can spend a few hours here easily. read more

Cute museum with a lot of local history! While visiting Toronto I decided to take a look at the nearby museums and the Markham Museum came up in my searches! There is a lot of local history shown off and the back of the museum has a time capsule of the town. This certainly isn't a normal art installation, but it's great if you want to learn more about the town. read more

Fun for some, boring for others so know your group interest. Some get a yearly pass to extend the excitement and for half of my group, fun almost lasted 2 hours. We took the kids for the afternoon, adult admission is $6, kids are $4, so not bad deal. It's like a tiny museum and science centre inside and a smaller less interesting Black Creek Pioneer Village. I'm curious how the yearly pass holders enjoy this place over and over again. The front counter is payment area and where you can request a real person to take you on the outside tour. The staff seem pretty excited to be there, ask that excited one for your tour outside otherwise there's a map that's pretty self explanatory. Inside level 2 is a good place for younger kids to play and learn. There's pedal cars to foster the Things that move theme, building paper airplanes, train track set, building lego cars and a ramp to launch them on. We found the Scarf Suction tube and building rollercoaster track to be most enjoyable. There was a tall Plinko wall that looked really cool, but one needs to bring balls up a long flight of stairs to drop from the top. There was a small and large walk through version of Newton's cradle....but to kids it's a Thunder dome, so tears may happen. Level 3 is the Pottery Display, its 1/4 of Level 2. My question is what are people still up there after 10minutes. Besides viewing pottery from recent to ages ago, there's some modelling clay for the kids to make a small display piece. Main floor is history, Keva building blocks(think long thin Jenga wood blocks) water bottle refilling station and washroom. Corner near entrance has the gift shop, it's almost unfitting and random. Amazing venue first off, but a fantastic museum that showcases a lot of history and education for the community. I love how many activities there are for all age groups and I can't wait to take a look at the pottery courses they offer! We came here for a Yelp Elite event and ended up chatting with a lot of staff from the museum. They were really informative and showcased a great deal of what they had to offer. I like that there's a lot of interactive things to sign up for and I think it's a great museum to have in this community. Markham Museum is like a small countryside escape in a suburban city. You would have never guessed from its entrance that it is very quaint, relaxing, and peaceful. In fact, it's location on Markham Rd. makes it even more remarkable that such a cute place exists. We came here to attend our friend's wedding ceremony in their church sanctuary. The parking situation is easy, and the walk to the venue wasn't very far, probably about a 2 minute walk. As you go towards the sanctuary, you'll notice rows of greenery cascading near sunflowers. There are small buildings scattered along the roadway, and once you get towards the end of the road, you'll see the church sanctuary on the left side. The building itself isn't very big, but it is thoughtfully designed in a "shabby chic" kind of way. The eggshell tones of the facade and the dark brownish/reddish roofing offer a nice contrast to the otherwise green environment. Inside, the eggshell colors are carried through, and simple vintage burgundy lettering on the wall have several adages. I liked that the main area where the bride and groom stood on was elevated so the guests had an easy view of them. Rows and rows of pews adorn the space, but they weren't very comfortable (so hard!) but luckily, we weren't sitting for long. Acoustics were good, and it is a good space for 100 or less person wedding. If you are looking for a grand entrance and a long procession, this place will not offer that. However, if you want a cute escape and an intimate ceremony, consider this museum's space. The surroundings are lovely, and you will have ample privacy and peace. :) read more

Most towns with local history museums have collections of artifacts. Markham has a collection of buildings, specifically nineteenth century buildings from around Markham that were preserved and moved to this location, then restored (generally quite well). There are houses, barns, a church, a general store, a honey shop, a historic train car (under renovation) and a huge sundial (probably not old). In addition to being a museum they have rental facilities for parties and a little miniature golf course which actually manages not to look too tacky. What is unfortunate about this place is lack of organization. It is staffed by volunteers and they seem to not have a lot of knowledge, mostly reading from sheets of paper. I got a personal tour, as no one else was visiting the place except for some kid's parties. I notice they are spending a lot of money on additional restorations but they could collect more on fees (only $6) if they promoted themselves a bit better and had more knowledgeable guides and more info on the displays. I actually wandered in here by mistake, as I had really intended to photograph the heritage homes subdivision next door. The nervous old biddy who showed me where to park knew nothing about that, but the two guides (one looked like a high school senior) showed me where it was. It is worth seeing as the homes are lovely and it is unusual to see a subdivision made out of re-located historic houses. read more
