The first one had to be replaced because it leaked, and the second was only marginally better. Friends staying at the same time had to have theirs changed twice. I need to get a glass to fill with water then to fill the iron from the glass. Not easy. You can't be expected to cart the whole contraption into the bathroom!!! Get real for goodness sake. Whilst you at it, check for stains on the ironing board. Otherwise they can transfer to clothes being ironed. The staff are pleasant. On checkout, even though I was told I had free continental breakfast, and I made this known when I entered the restaurant. On check-out they had added two full English breakfasts to the bill. Once I said that I didn't have a full English it was removed from the bill. Apart from that all else was OK. I'd take my own iron next time.... I didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening as we were booked into a restaurant elsewhere.

The room was well equipped for working professionals (desk chair, full size mirror, international plug points, coffee maker, iron-board etc etc) The cherry on the cake was their pillow menu(for people with different preferences/feathers- you can request your own choice of pillows) and the pillow spray for a good night sleep! Out of curiosity, I tried it and I found it great! Service - I think they were courteous and friendly and check-in and check-out processes were smooth. Food : Decent options, although restaurant had many more choices than the room-service menu. Location: very central; walking distance to Birmingham cathedral and shopping street(New Street) and train station which goes straight to Birmingham international airport. The negative: Shower could be a bit dark(no overhead lights) and the lifts were old. Only 2/4 were functional when I was there. Wifi - the standard free wifi was bad; only sufficient for light browsing/emails. In all fairness, they do say that the free wifi does only that but when you are paying 150 GBP a night, I think they should throw in high speed wifi. But overall, I had a pleasant stay and I would come back.

I might have gone 5 stars except for my experience with breakfast the following morning. As part of our package we were able to use our meeting space for breakfast. I was under time pressure and was reassured breakfast would be with us shortly, I heard this for an hour and as I left they arrived with breakfast Other than that I liked the hotel, it's location is great and the staff were good. We were on the third floor which for some reason was very, very hot! The air con in the room worked well, but the corridor and communal areas were toasty. We had a 10 minute wait when we arrived at the gym reception as they had ran out of clean towels, not ideal with a wriggly baby to entertain. The pool is a nice size but seemed to have a lot of sand at the bottom. Urgh. There is also a jacuzzi (which was out of order), a steam room and a sauna. The food at the hotel was good. There is a large retail park across the road from the hotel with a Nandos, Cinema, Tesco etc, and originally we were going to head out to eat dinner. But after the long wait to check in it was way past my son's dinner time and he was cranky so we ate in the bar (as the hotel restaurant didn't open till 7pm). Children eat free with a paying adult and the choice of food was great. Fresh veggies and hummus dip to start and pasta with a tomato sauce which was rammed with veggies go a big tick from me for being healthy and a big tick from my son for being delicious! Our food was tasty, a generous sized chicken burger. And breakfast the next morning had a great selection from the usual cooked selection, breads, pastries, fresh fruit, meats, cheeses, mmmmmm. One real annoyance was the lack of any baby change facilities in the communal areas of the hotel, made for some interesting nappy changes! This could be rectified by the hotel so easily.

Location wise, it's around five minutes from New St or Snow Hill stations and very central. It's as close as you get to a leafy spot in central Birmingham. The reception is stripped down, with self check-in and an assistant to help. Breakfast and dinner are provided in the adjacent Beefeater (named "Bar & Block"). The rooms are pretty standard, but quite well soundproofed, and I didn't suffer from external noise or that from other rooms. Free wifi was perfectly adequate for email and messaging. The beds are very comfortable, though neither the 'soft' or standard 'hard' pillows quite do it for me. The problem for sleeping, however, was the noise of the heating/cooling unit fan - an irritating whine which meant I had to turn it off to go to sleep and then awoke at 4am too warm. There was also a peculiar, intermittent watery noise, which I presume was someone flushing or washing elsewhere in the building, though it may have been the air-conditioning. Breakfast was ok, a fairly standard buffet, though Europeans would bemoan the lack of cheese and cold meats. I returned from getting a second cup of coffee to find the waitress clearing away the toast I had just buttered, although she apologised and offered to get me another. So, ok for the price (£118 including breakfast on a weeknight) but not outstanding value given the imperfect sleep.

The website is clear, comprehensive and it's easy to compare several nearby hotels to choose the most suitable one. My family and I stayed at this Premier Inn in Birmingham city centre earlier this year to attend the All England Badminton finals at the National Indoor Arena. The hotel is perfectly located in the city centre, close to all the shops and restaurants but only 20 minute walk along a pedestrianised route from the NIA. There is some metered parking outside the hotel but for longer term parking, it's best to use one of the many public car parks nearby. We used the Brunel Street car park which is a 5 minute walk away and cost around £8 for 24 hours on a Sunday. Check in is a funny affair with self service machines to enter your details but with very eager staff hovering to help. This hotel is very well staffed with helpful people and I'm not really sure why they don't just use a traditional check in system. The rooms were big and like other Premier Inns I've stayed at, quite modern and updated. There was a problem with the shower door in one of the rooms but we were given a new room immediately. The beds were comfortable. There was a nice looking on-site restaurant but we chose to eat out. This hotel satisfied both the CTG (Chinese Thrift Gene) and the CQG (Chinese Quality Gene)!

The rooms are spacious and ornate, and it is set in lovely grounds. They also do a special spa package for your hen night, although I chose to go abroad. The toilets are awesome! Huge, and very clean. Very good value for money for a wedding reception.
