A life saver for a college student studying in Durham. All I could remember was, " I wish we had one of these in the US." I got the hang of using English currency at M&P. Ah..good memories. read more

Driving on the left hand side is not something to choose easily....I have only done it once before in 1982 in Jamaica and it was fine because I was incredibly young and the roads were less travelled back then but it's hard to change. I know many accidents/ deaths that have happened because of this. Anyway we decided to do the train bit. When we arrived at the York train station we had some time to wait so Joe said " Go check out the Booths" I already knew this is a grocery store chain in England and had seen it before But I was blown away at this one and was surprised to find it at the Windermere train station. I spent a good 45 minutes in there and purchased many items for our next destination. Beautiful produce and it also had a whole bakery area and a area with pharmacy type items too. When Joe insisted I go honestly I was a bit annoyed like Why? Lol Great store! Best in town!

I made several Thai dishes and Booths had all the necessary ingredients from fish sauce to palm sugar to dried kaffir lime leaves. Prices are much lower and the selection much larger than you'd find in London. Try £26 for a bottle of Veuve, and yes we bought a case for Christmas lunch! If you're self catering in the Lake District and are looking for quality well above your average Tesco Express, be sure to make the drive to Booths.

I have memories of this store dating back about four years ago, this store hasn't changed much since then but still remains a decent branch of Tesco and probably their better and more central store in Durham, as they also have an Express store which is quite close to the train station. This store is quite a large one, it seems to be all over one floor, unlike my local Tesco Metro in Manchester city centre which is over two floors. The store stocks a satisfactory selection of drinks and an impressive selection of essentials, even including a selection of games and showcase mobile phones, yet "cheap and budget" mobiles rather than the likes of the Iphone. The staff here also seemed nice enough. This store is one of the larger stores in Durham which I went in on my recent visit to the city, and with a decent selection of groceries and even games, yet not a big enough selection to do a weekly shop. this store is still above average and deserves a solid three-star rating.

It's great to have this low-cost alternative, especially as this store also has DVDs, toiletries, batteries, and kitchen utensils! There is always a good variety of all products - a good choice of brands with a range of prices to suit every budget. They also have a very good clothing section that often has a sale on. The atmosphere in Tesco is always bustling, even at 3 in the morning near Christmas and New Year. Although most of the staff are very friendly and will drop everything to help you look for a product but some of the staff that work on the electrical counter are a little to be desired. Its open normal hours 8 am - 8pm monday to saturday and then 10am - 4pm on sundays. All your foods and drinks are stocked here and as everybody knows with all tescos their is a great choice of varied foods on offer. At the moment they have the offers of drinks so christmas celebrating doesn't have to cost too much. They also have a decent sized electrical section for your low cost kettles and toaster and other kitchen appliances. They also stock a limited range of large screen tvs so you literaly can get most things in this store. One of the downsides to tesco in newton le willows is that is doesn't have a clothing section, but i suppose you can't have everything. Parking here is great and free so long as you do not overstay. There is plenty of disabled spaces and children parking areas. Toilets in this tesco are kept very clean which is amazing as they are the only public toilets in the area whilst your out and about shopping. Staff here are lovely and helpful, always on hand to help with any queries or even with your packing of your weekly shop. They also offer a saving scheme, where you can buy £1 stamps and save on a card. For every £49 you save they give you £1 and you can redeem these on any of the stores items which is another great way to save for christmas or other occasions. Well worth a shopping trip.
