I love Marks and Spencer's location in Manchester city centre, it is by far my favourite location within the Marks and Spencer brand, and it is also my favourite store to get groceries around Manchester city centre, the store seems to combine an easy shopping experience with high-quality products and great service. Ever since the store was refurbished, it has felt fresh, modern and exciting with innovative ideas such as the opportunity to pick and pack your own eggs, nuts, fruits, coffee and more, this is not only environmentally friendly, but it's also a pretty unique feature which can save you money. The fresh fruit and vegetable section, where you can also pack your own, choosing as little or as much as you want is also pretty cool. The store stocks most of the items you'd expect to find in a Marks and Spencer location, including a good Free From section, and rotisserie chickens on the deli. I personally love the peri-peri rotisserie chicken; sadly it has been replaced by BBQ until September. I personally find certain products from this store, including the sausages and crumpets, to be the best around for a coeliac like myself, who is forced to follow a gluten-free diet for life! The Scan and Shop feature seems to work perfectly in the store, although you may need to connect to their WiFi, as the Food Hall can have more mobile signal, due to being located in the Basement, it is still easy to scan products as you walk around the store, and then pay, generating an e-receipt. The staff in this store are also amazing and super friendly too, such as in the Opticians, where I was delivered a quick and efficient eye-test, as well as one of the managers who stayed with me and made sure I was okay, and had water, after becoming sick in the store (Due to suffering an allergic reaction from food I ate earlier the day from a different business) 5* - I hope other stores, not just within the Marks and Spencer brand, but other supermarkets too follow this model. read more

It's over a year later and I'm still a fan. You know how that lady Caroline Aherne played on The Fast Show said, 'You can't go wrong with Markses. What did I say Roy?' 'She said you can't go wrong with Markses.' 'That's right Roy.' Well, she makes a darn good point. Yelpers, I'm going to speak for women everywhere and throw my boobs into the ring. Yep, Marks' lingerie department. You may think it's all frills and frolics, but I ardently plead to all my fellow bra-wearing sisters, for the love of all things good and holy, get your sweater-cows measured here. I'm not even joking. Years. YEARS of wearing a bra two cup-sizes too small. Minutes with a gentle and discreet assistant in the private rooms behind all the knickers and nighties made me realise this, and I was told what size I was for sure. Plus I could throw my old brassiere away when I was fitted with a glorious new puppy-tamer and given a fiver off my next purchase. Which was certainly a bonus, considering I then had to go home and bin every bra I'd ever owned. Not only do these folks offer bras in stupid weird niche sizes, like the one I happen to be (the only other place I've found my stupid weird niche size thus far is TK Maxx. True story), but they have fabulous customer service and their fitting staff are amazing. Not only did I have to make an actual proper appointment for my measuring, but I was guided every step of the way in the friendliest, most comforting manner possible. No scary Trinny and Susannah or Gok* grabbage here at all. My fitter even told me to put my dress back on and then had me look in the mirror, pointing out how my clothes fitted better now I was wearing the right size. Food hall with festive chocolate-covered pretzels and amaze bakery section? Check. Ace undies? Check. Fab customer service? Check. Perfectly passable eateries? Of course! Free cash machines? Hells yes! Bureau de Change? Rude not to. If sales were on more often or if their food reduced section was regularly massively full, I'd never be out of here. You can't go wrong with Markses. I go here all the time to get my currency when going away - let's face it, it's always gonna be a much better rate than dealing with the places at the airport where you're totally reliant on paying their poor exchange prices or using your card every time you're in a foreign country! M&S always get it right in terms of their customer service and the girls are always very friendly and chatty - I don't know how they do their job knowing that everyone who's coming through is off on their hols soon (I'd be far too jealous..) Situated on the very top floor at the back, you do have to wander through a maze of beds and random furniture items to get here but it's so stress free and easy that it's worth it. What's with all the hatred? Where is the love? I'm not the biggest fan of M&S and I absolutely hate the adverts but they work don't they? Everyone knows the brand within two seconds of seeing the advert for the first time...don't hate the player, hate the game! But you can't deny there aren't many things more British than M&S. Everything you get is good quality and most of it is reasonably priced. The food is pretty expensive but it is pretty damn good as well...chocolate melting pots....mmmm...! Whilst I'm not a huge fan of the women's clothes as I find them all a bit too old for me, I do love the accessories and the underwear. The menswear is really good, fantastic for people who wear business dress for work as the prices aren't too bad for the quality you get. The home section is great and the candles are a lot cheaper than you find in most places. The location is great too, right in the centre of town at the end of Market Street, sharing the building with Selfridges. read more

This M&S is the daddy of all M&Ss in a 500 mile radius. Originally knocked down by the IRA bomb back in 1996 this phoenix has risen out of the ashes. Spanning a fair few floors, with everything from televisions to clothes (but mostly clothes). In the basement is the divine foods of M&S, I am a self proclaimed junky when it comes to their sandwiches, ready meals basically everything that is edible. They do everything to a very high standard that just makes it 20 times better than anything you could pick up in tescos or elsewhere. At the same time though these great examples of flavour have a stacked price, but then again you don't get perfection for free. The other floors are compromised of a nice cafe and lots of clothes. At the top I think theres a digital section with some nice gadgets and further in the top corner is a useful foreign exchange for picking up there last minute euro's. The cafe is a nice experience but is often packed with those individuals of a certain age who appreciate its finer qualities so if your a student like me you may feel somewhat out of touch. read more

I go to m and s most lunch time especially for hot food as I only get 30 mins for lunch. I really like the deli sector where they have some good lunch selection. I also love shopping around lunchtime when they start reducing meat. I tried Beef&Haggis Pie (£3.50) from M&S Deli. The value is average to a decent cold sandwich. The pie contains a thick layer of short crust pastry. There are also chunks of stewing beef mixed with haggis. It is very meaty pie full with meaty flavour. I really love the taste. However, inside the pie there is no gravy. This dosen't feel right to me. But I would still buy it as it doesn't taste like the cheapo pie you get from the garage. Good Old M & S. read more

No matter what some of the grumpy reviews say, this is one of the better branches of marks and spencer you're going to find yourself in- primarily because of it being in a bigger city, it's a higher graded store and means that it spans across a greater variety of their stock. Yes, this means that the store is pretty large, and that can make it a bit of a daunting labyrinth, but sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and think that it could be worse, you could be lost in the arndale centre... M&S have one of the highest ethiscores in the country, yes, it's a little more expensive, but you're paying for better taste, better manufacture, better welfare, better treatment of staff, so it's not going to cost the same as prices like primark. Even though this place is large, and not with the greatest supply of natural light, the staff are extremely helpful, and the store carries a larger range of sizes than the smaller stores. We usually shop in the M&S food hall once a week to treat ourselves to a fancy meal, they have a great amount of superb quality food on par with restaurant food. They also have a deli with the most delicious looking cooked chickens to ready to bake lasagnas, pies and other great items. They also have a little cafe downstairs if you want to get a quick bite to eat. M&S can be a bit pricey than other supermarkets but they do have some great offers which include the always favourite Dine in for £10 which includes a £6-7 bottle of red or white a starter, a side, a main and a desert! M&S can do no wrong in my view, especially when it comes to food. I've resigned myself to eating salads for the next few months before I go on holiday, so went to M&S for inspiration and wasn't disappointed. The Sweet Chilli Chicken Noodle Salad was awesome and the fact it was a salad just passed me by! There is a great selection of healthy food and some of the best fresh produce in town. As well as the healthy, the not so healthy food but tastes fabulous (as all things naughty do!) is great too. Downstairs in the Food Hall is the Florist section with a beautiful selection of plants & fresh cut flowers/bouquets and is fantastic for gifts & cards. And even then, I never considered it overly expensive, because it is worth every penny. Being as I am not in fact 40 years old, I have no love for the clothes side of M&S, and apart from their awesome pots and pans, I only really buy food here. And what food! From the simple (but lush) bakery goods such as bagels and cookies, to the luxurious dinner stuff such as their three-peppercorn sirloin steaks, to the simply gorgeous cavas and proseccos that always add a touch of fizz to a party, M&S food is awesome. This branch is really great, one of my favourites. It is set out neatly and seems to stock every single item of M&S food and the staff are super helpful. Word of advice to those who love a bargain, try showing up about 45 minutes before closing time. You're almost guaranteed to pick up a bargain. read more

Below is my review of the M&S in Ellesmere Port on the Cheshire Oaks which I believe to be the largest one in the area so far. The M&S in Manchester City Center is smaller but I purchased the same foods and had the same wonderful experience: Wow I am literally blown away by this place, it's absolutely gorgeous and they have amazing food! I'm an extremely healthy eater who's visiting from San Diego, California and coming to the UK all you think you're going to have for 2 weeks is fish and chips and sausage and mash. I brought a big bag full of snacks with me and usually go to ASDA or Morrisons when I get here to get some things in for the house. So I landed Friday and tell my Dad who knows I buy everything from Trader Joes and Whole Foods that I need to go to ASDA and he says "oh wait until you go to Marks and Spencer's," and I was thinking a clothing store? I walked up the first aisle and was so happy, they have so much fresh food, things for 1, pre packaged meals that would be great to take to work for lunch, they do a meal deal for 2 that comes with wine. They have delicious vegetables, local grown fruit and tons of novelties like crackers, chocolates and gifts. I needed thing for a fews day, the super green soup I got was delicious and was good for 2 lunches, it was loaded with kale, beans, and edamame...it was to die for and I was so happy to be eating in my normal routine while traveling. I also enjoyed their variety of hummus, the trio one was good but the Moroccan with pine nuts and butternut squash was my favorite. Throughout the aisles they have food from all around the world, Thai, Chinese, Indian, Mexican...you could easily have a fresh meal from every country each night of the week. Now I personally spend quite a bit on groceries, I'm also a single person who lives alone. If you have a family of 4 it's probably not the most cost effective but it would be great to grab fresh things if you didn't have time to make dinner that night and didn't want to do pizza or a mcdonalds! I left Chester to go to Manchester where I visited this location. I'm now en route to London and I hope I'm able to have a 3rd trip to M&S while in the UK! read more

There was a period for several years when I would never go into Marks and Spencer. As a 16-year-old, I clearly felt that this place was definitely for grown-ups, everything in it was for grown-ups and I wanted nothing to do with it. Now that I'm in my mid (oh no) twenties, Marks and Spencers is just fine for me. I still wouldn't buy any form of casual clothing from this store (aside from their expensive, but dead comfy, boxer shorts), but it's useful if you need a belt, some smart trousers or maybe a new shirt for a job interview. Our visits to Marks & Spencer have been more frequent of late, and that can only be a good thing. It's not like I can afford to do my food shopping at M&S but, after winning a voucher at a quiz, we bought two main Sunday dinners here - both of which were excellent. We've never been strangers to M&S (their pies alone would be enough to have me coming back on a weekly basis if it was up to me!), though this voucher gave us a weird sense of power and freedom; doesn't it always feel like this, as if you're spending free money? It's a blessing and a curse! With this, we decided to try something new and buy from the hot counter. A full chicken, frites and selection of green veggies kept us going one weekend, followed the weekend after by a rack of ribs, frites and selection of salads from the deli counter. The meats were both well cooked and succulent - I was surprised by how tender the ribs really were from here, just melting from the bone and needing no knife assistance. An Indian spiced cauliflower salad was a pleasant addition to the meal, and their cous cous is consistently great. If you're looking for an addition to your next lunch, I'd fully advise trying out the pita crisps! The red pepper flavour is excellent on its own, but the plain pairs perfectly with hummus if you're looking for something to share (or have on your own, as I often have...!) With an expanding selection and always excellent Dine in for 2 for £10, M&S will continue to be my go to place for something special. So Marks is much like any other Marks and Spencer around the place, but I guess what I like about this place is that it is very much geared towards the shopper I am, I make a list of what I want, and being a man this means that I don't tend to want to dilly dally around, I want to go in pick up what I want, pay and leave. Thankfully the men's section is compact on the second floor unlike the ladies section that is spread across more than one floor, this means of course going to the top floor but considering how easy it is to pick up what you want, pay and leave this is a minor inconvenience. I am aware that on the odd occasion I do browse in the basement when looking for food related things but when it comes to this I go to the top floor (if i am looking for clothing of course), collect what I want then use the lift to go to the basement (thus avoiding the mass of people on escalators), browse and then pay for clothing a food in one swoop. So all in all I am a fan. read more

Foodies in Manchester have such a hard life. From Michelin-starred restaurants to gourmet delicatessens and oriental supermarkets, you can buy almost every kind of food imaginable within the city centre boundaries. Of course, if you a) cannot afford to eat out every night, or b) cannot be asked to make this food yourself, then you can find most cuisines in the food hall of Marks and Spencers. Famed for its somewhat exaggerative adverts, M&S Food is one of the recent culinary phenomenons, as the majority of the food on offer is really very good! The food hall of the Market Street branch of M&S is no exception, and is one of the easiest supermarkets to shop in in Manchester. It is bright, airy and open plan, with the food very easily laid out and eminently findable. Once you have got over the somewhat class-dominated clientele of the supermarket (you can often find yourself fighting over a beef wellington with fellow shoppers in two-piece suits and fringed scarves), the M&S food hall is very accessible, and not too overpriced. The special offers are the best thing about M&S. In a rare trip, my flatmates and I managed to buy an entire evening worth of party food taking advantage of a buy -one-get-one-free offer. Smoked salmon and cream cheese on mini bagels. 24 for £3. Bargain. Try it and see! read more

It feels like a cave and although you can see, you might want to bring a flashlight to find that seeded multi-grain baguette that is so delish. I love Marks and Spencers, and quite frankly, I don't care who knows it. I love the fact that I can go in there and am often spoilt for choice when it comes to gorgeous well cut pieces of clothing, I love their underwear, I really love their cardigans (I have an entire section of my chest of drawers devoted to them), and - like many other people - I absolutely bloody adore their food. This branch of M&S is Manchester's flagship store was rebuilt to great acclaim in the mid 1990s to replace the evil morass of grey concrete that was destroyed by the IRA bomb in 1996. Spread out over three floors, there's something here for everyone - and you know that if you buy something from here, it won't fall apart after one hot wash. They also do a great bra fitting service - and unlike some other places, their fitters are always sure to warm their hands first, which is something which is always appreciated when you've got a shop assistant putting her hands on two of your most sensitive areas! This branch of M&S also has a rather lovely little cafe, which is a great place to pop into if you fancy grabbing a coffee whilst you're shopping until you drop. I know I'm getting old 'cause I've got obsessed with Marks and Spencer. Still, when you visit this mammoth store, you'll realise that it's worth lusting over! Set out over a number of floors, it's got all the shoes, lingerie, ladieswear, menswear and homeware that you could ever dream of. And let's face it, while buying clothes at a fashion-y store can make you feel frivolous, shelling out here feels like an investment! In the basement, there's a sizeable food hall that's packed with tasty snacks, produce and booze. I like to treat myself to a nice sandwich or salad here after a particularly hardcore shopping trip! I've always disliked Marks and Spencers. It reeks of the blue-rinse brigade squeezing oranges whilst blokes in awful chinos mull around poking more awful slacks. It definitely appeals to a certain type of person. That said, since the IRA blew it up, the store went through a transformation. It went from being quite dowdy to a rather impressive sparkly glass thing, complete with its famous walkway. If, like me, M&S is a source of relentless shopping misery that is always accompanied by warty-faced old Daily Mail wives with huge piled up hair pottering around the counters, then the small mercy is that there's a decent cafe within, where you can fill up on caffeine before jittering out of the front door, headlong into the samba band that are known to hang around outside. In summary, it looks nice on the outside and has some reasonable food... but that's not enough to save one of Britain's moldiest institutions for me personally. read more

Marks and Spencer's in the centre of Manchester is a fantastic store with so much on offer! Split over several floors, this is one of the biggest M&S stores I've ever been to! The store can be accessed via the Arndale Shopping Centre or through the front entrance. It is situated right in the centre at the end of Market Street and next to the Arndale you really can't miss it! In the basement is a huge food hall, where you could easily do a weekly shop if you wanted. There is a wide selection of ladies and men's clothing, including underwear and shoes. One bonus to this Marks and Spencer's is the café on the second floor. It is located just in the corner, and is surrounded by enormous windows. This lets lots of light into the café and makes for a pleasant experience. They offer snacks such as cakes and sandwiches, and also heartier food like soup and baked potatoes. There are plenty of cash registers situated around the store so queuing is never an issue. In my experiences, the sales staff have been very helpful and more than willing to assist with any queries you may have. read more

This marks and spencers do a really good frozen food and i have to say that i am partial to buying these chocolate balls with cream in the middle. I am reallly addicted to them yet i have no idea what they are called! LOL! The changing rooms on the clothes section are very big and this store is always kept very clean. I always seem to find myself shopping for food in M&S, love the layout of this food hall and its always well stocked.

for my money, this is the best m&s in britain. it beats the flagship in london. why? their selection is wider (especially in the food section). yes it's pricey on the top 3 floors where the clothing and homewares are, but when you get to the basement where the food is you get great quality and value for the price. their produce is fresh and none of the stuff looks rotten or bruised, the fruit has never been sour, and the meat is always of good quality. i will say the meat selection isn't as varied as we're used to in the states, but you'll still be able to get more sophisticated cuts than the basics. don't expect to find beef shank or brisket though. i think that's just the difference in food culture. the best part of the food section is the prepared meals- it is really quality stuff. it's mostly pastas and pies and simple stuff like that, but it's (dare i say) restaurant quality. it's definitely better than olive garden. it's about $3 USD per entree and the portions are quite fair. i bought a few to try out and was impressed with each one. the meats don't taste like they've been frozen for weeks and the pasta is still springy. very nice. i love m&s. i wish they would open stores in the states and sell the same things. it'll never happen, but it'd be nice. read more

I have always been a fan of Marks and Spencer from their food to their clothes. The food is simply delicious and even if you pay a little more, what does it matter when the quality is of the high standard that Marks and Spencer food is. I love the chicken no mayo sandwiches. But be advised, you should get in early if you can to avoid disappointment as they sell very fast, due to their quality and indeed popularity! The clothes are also great, and I am particularly a fan of blue harbour. I shop a lot for clothes and food at Marks and Spencer, and will keep on doing so due to the reasonable pricing and great quality. I find the staff here attentive and friendly, and always willing to help. The building itself is also lovely and in a great location. This review is simply based on my most recent visit about a week ago.... during a re-fit. Why open and have everything a mess and create a very difficult shopping experience for the customer? And surely being open during a refit only adds time and more difficulty onto themselves? Anyway, on this particular Saturday afternoon It was extremely difficult for me the shopper. I was unsure of what I wanted for my tea that evening and I usually like wandering round this M&S Food hall where there is lots of inspiration and quite a good veggie selection, and the fruit & veg is usually great. So, I am coming down the escalator to what looks like a cattle market. Very busy and a lot of people trying to move unsuccessfully. I should have just played travelator and tried running back up the escalator from which I had just descended! I braved it anyway. There was part of the store which had been closed off and everything that used to be in that section had been rammed into the smaller section still open. Let me explain myself more clearly Marks & Spencer in Manchester is where mostly middle aged people, mothers and managers shop. The forth M is for mancunians. This shop sells amazing freeze dried, fair trade coffee and biscuits that make perfect nibbles on the side whilst qyping your socks off. The staff were friendly and knew when to stop the small talk. Marks and Spencers is an English staple shopping experience! With three floors of all kinds of stuff, Marks and spencer sells clothes, home wares and food, They have a cafe and foodhall on the lower ground floor. Their products are very good quality and over the last few years have reduced some of their prices to compete with other high street brands. Marks and spencer is a great place to get everyday clothes and also something nice too. I would recommend this shop for its quality over evreything else, plus their food is scrummy! read more
