Nevertheless, I had gotten a good personal recommendation about UnderGround Classic Cuts and walked in as they openned at 9 on a Saturday. I was the first one in and thus, almost no waiting (a little while everyone got set up, but no big deal). China cut my hair and did an awesome job! Today I called because the online booking system was not working for me, and I was trying to make an appointment. Nick answered the phone and immediately acted annoyed that I even called. Instead of helping, he told me my phone was "the only phone in the world" not working and basically blamed me for the issue. When I asked if there was another way to schedule an appointment, he cut me off and said, "Listen buddy, I don't have time for this right now. Can you come in in 15 minutes or not?" The entire conversation was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional from start to finish. I even had to ask multiple times just to get his name because he refused to give it at first. I can honestly say after that interaction, I would never let Nick anywhere near my hair with a pair of scissors. Customer service like that is unacceptable, especially for someone representing a business people are supposed to feel comfortable walking into.

The shop is part of a community of local businesses in one building- at the back is a coffee shop with a glorious patio, and up the stairs is a quaint yoga studio. My partner (Cody) has made the point to ensure the barber shop is a welcoming and safe space for any of his clients. He is part of the Strands for Trans community and caters to a diverse range of clientele from all different walks of life (and all types of hairstyles.) He's magic with clippers, shears, and a straight razor, and won't let you leave the chair until you are filled to the brim with confidence and are happy with your cut, shave, or beard trim.
