I would not recommend Marquette University unless your student gets a full ride scholarship. I had two girls go to Marquette and after paying close to $150k each for Biological Sciences degrees they're getting job offers for $21/hr?!? They have experienced/learned nothing regarding stem cell research due to the fact that Marquette is a religious school. COVID threw a wrench in their studies but there wasn't ANY preparation for jobs and the real world. Nothing helping them get internships whatsoever. My girls would have gone in as Jr's but Marquette doesn't accept any AP scores for credit for any classes regarding their majors, being in the "honors" program NONE of their AP scores counted for even CORE classes. Friends kids went to IIT and graduated in 4 yrs with their Masters degrees. Honors degrees mean NOTHING. I could have saved the $ by them going in as Jr's or they could have received Masters or double Majors at any other school. Forget trying to get into the dental program unless someone in the family is already a dentist or dr. Just about every student accepted into this program has a family member who is already or family has donated $$ to the school. On top of that Milwaukee is getting more and more dangerous. The Citgo gas station on State between 15th & 16th is prob one of the worst areas to be. Shootings weekly if not more often, most if the student apartments are in this area just 1/2 block south. My daughters were in a club and came out to find a crime scene roped off because someone had been shot right outside and had no clue this was going on. They had to walk two blocks through it to get to their Uber rides! Guidance counselors are a joke. Mentors are a joke. No support no guidance no help, just a minimal undergrad worth $21/hr that you can make at your local Walmart without having to spend $150k for the basically useless degree read more

It's hard to rate the school you went to but I will try: Location: Milwaukee was kind of run down in my day but it seems to be doing better now. Homelessness is rampant and creates a sense of unease walking through the streets at times. It's also basically an unlivable tundra in the winter but there isn't much the school can do about that at this point except wait for green house gasses to do their thing. Campus: the overall aesthetic of the campus is pretty eclectic with a lot of horrendous 60s and 70s architecture mixed about charming older brick buildings. You get the the sense that the school just built whatever was in at the time and now has a menagerie of odd architectural styles which doesn't do it any favors. For a campus in an urban setting straddling a low income part of the city I suppose it is sufficient in that it now has or will have all the amenities to support your day to day life. Amenities: the school had 2 hair salons, several restaurants, several dining halls, enough adequately priced housing, 2 gyms, easy access to the city and the highways. The dining halls were a mix of quality, usually nothing to write home about. The dorms were adequate but again, nothing to write home about with a few exceptions. But then again that kind of adds to the charm. Cost: This probably lowered the score a full point. While I totally recognize that it is a private school, and truly appreciate the financial aid I received, I don't believe at 18 I truly understood what it would mean to take on 55K+ in student loans. To pay over a thousand dollars a month to live in the residence halls in a city where housing is so cheap definitely adds to the cost... Culture: loved the school and had the time of my life. Being up so far north meant that drinking for better or worse is a major part of the culture of the school bc there is literally nothing else to do sometimes. The Jesuit ideals and the core curriculum were both pluses for me and for those who choose to pursue them, there is a lot of programming that is centered around spirituality which is cool. The student body is annoyingly homogeneous at times, basically everyone is white, upper middle class and from a suburb... that probably describes me as well but the bubble the people who go to Marquette have lived in their whole lives definitely gets brought with them to Marquette. Academics: generally challenging and good support from the staff. Opportunities to challenge yourself and do big things if you take the opportunity. It definitely felt that they accepted a number of students that were probably not college material to be honest but I never felt like they held anyone else back. Notable programs include the Les Aspen program in DC, study abroad programs, internships, etc. read more

We were very impressed with the attitude of this school. We were just there to see the Joan of Arc chapel, but there is something special about this campus. Inspiring statements everywhere. Clearly they set a tone to graduate people who will make a positive difference in the world. Beautifully landscaped, easy to walk around just looking at the historical buildings. read more

My alma mater! GORGEOUS camps! I adored my four years as an undergraduate student at Marquette. I found many wonderful staff mentors through various clubs, organizations, and campus jobs I was involved in. The professors were there when I needed them to be. I truly can't imagine my four years anywhere else and Milwaukee will always be home. I'd highly recommend MU with all of my heart to any perspective student. This is the school I graduated from, and I still have fond memories of the school though I graduated more than 30 years ago.....And, I understand a lot has changed in terms of appearance...But I do love the truly great Jesuit Education I received...yes, if you go to schools like this, it's almost like having two minors...the one you choose and the one that grounds you in Philosphy as they require about 5 or 6 courses in Theology/Philosphy...but, that does help you become a great critical thinker.....and, I did learn a lot in my Journalism classes as well...Now, I just need to get there and revisit the campus.... read more

Don't you tell me. Do you know what being an orphan is? It's 30 kids to a room. 12 years old and already a drophead, numbing the pain. You wake up screaming with rats chewing your fingers. THEY have treated my daughter like shit!! student with super hight GPA in master program. She couldn't be vaccinated due to her health issues and just because she went to clinical without prior written approval they kicked her out of school. previous semester took them almost entire semester to get her approved and she was going to clinical using her school approval. Instead of teaching students what's right or what could not accepted in real live they just took 48K for 4 semesters out of 5, wont give the money back and all of the credits are not transferable. Person who is responsible to get you to clinical in nursing program is most of the students nightmare and no one like her since she is not communicating with students on family matter byt them blaming them for her lock of communication, reporting them and kicking out of school. They messed up with wrong parent and I will take the to court. I'm partial to Marquette. I'm a Comm Alumni and my education here serves me well in a number of ways. First and foremost I am a writer. I have applied that skill in a number of avenues. No matter which direction I go however, my writing takes me there. It organizes my thinking and makes sure I get down the details others need to know and put them together quickly and concisely. Its kind of the threads that form the fabric of my professional career. Secondly I appreciate the friends I've made through my association with Marquette. From friends in the dorms to friends I've made while serving on the Communications Alumni Association Board, I've been lucky enough to meet some incredible people. Very fortunate indeed. I guess lastly I am grateful to Marquette for something that is more intrinsic and less defined. It's the values my education instilled in me. An appreciation for service and giving to others all that I have been given. I'm not nearly egotistical enough to think that I'm up on any kind of pedestal at all. Rather I am humbled to be a walking along a path that so many amazing people have built up for me. Milwaukee is a better city for being home to this world-class Jesuit university. read more

Get's docked a star for changing the nickname to "Gold" for a week and refusing to recognize "Warriors" as well as fixing the vote to go back to "Golden Eagles" to cover the board's ass. Whoever is in charge of the mascot should be fired. That or Southern Miss has a double agent working at MU's marketing dept. The newer eagle logo is a carbon copy of the Southern Miss version. Maybe they figured after Favre left the state of WI nobody would notice. Most of the faculty are excellent, a couple are clueless and out of touch. My personal experience and interaction w/ the Jesuits (I had a couple classes where a Jesuit was the prof.) has also been positive. Campus continues to improve (thank you D-Wade for writing checks and putting MU back on the map.) I love the urban atmosphere, but common sense applies for keeping your wits about you when walking around at night. That applies to all you yahoos walking around solo through alleys listening to your ipod while zoning out and not paying attention. read more

Entering my Senior Year here, and still loving it. The Jesuit Education might overemphasize Philosophy and Theology at times, but it really does give you a very rounded perspective on life. Marquette has many faults here and there (no one is perfect) but the one thing you cannot fault them on is their school spirit. From day one, you will be thrown into this culture of school pride that really makes you feel like you made the right choice. Because at the end of the day, current, prospective, staff or alumni. As a Marquette College of Communication student, I can say that the College of Comm is excellent. The advisors are very personal, and the professors are all about one-on-one interaction with students. I have gotten nothing but support in the way of internships and networking contacts, and I feel confident about graduating with full employment in hand, even in a down economy. While the tuition is a bit high for what you may get, with a scholarship (if you earn it) it's completely a bargain. In terms of lifestyle, great options for students to get a slice of city living while still remaining comfortably protected inside the campus bubble. I used to think that the neighborhood to the west of MU was pretty sketchy, but after 4 years of exploration I've come to realize that it's just how a busy street (Wisconsin Ave) is, with lots of bus routes and people coming and going all the time. There's bound to be weirdies now and again. Otherwise, the surrounding neighborhoods are lower-middle class residential, and the only trouble is teenaged kids who know they can take advantage of dumb, spoiled, drunk college students. Don't be dumb, spoiled or drunk all the time and you'll be fine. The only victims in this neighborhood are those who haven't got the brains to stay safe. Close to downtown and all of the night life and museums, plus within walking distance of the lake. Wonderful location. I love that it's right off of the highways because then it's easy to come and go! The people who staff Marquette are caring and down to earth, and if you ever run into trouble, there will be someone there to help you out. read more

I attended Marquette in the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences. Best decision of my life. Having grown up in Wisconsin, I assumed that I would get as far from home as possible for college and didn't even give MU a thought until September of my senior year of high school. SO GLAD MY MIND CHANGED. Seriously, not everything at MU is perfect. And that's ok. The times that I was challenged or upset by something not being as I might want were formative. That said, most of my time there was a blast; I had amazing professors in the Political Science Department and Les Aspin Center; student leadership opportunities were abundant; and I met some amazing people who are now doing amazing things around the world. I'm very excited for the direction that MU is taking under new President Lovell, and I look forward to seeing all that is to come under his leadership. AMDG. Cura Peronalis. Magis. It's been a while since I graduated from Marquette, but I still have a great deal of respect for the place. I had a lot of great professors (shout outs to Lowell Barrington, Larry LeBlanc, John Pustejovsky, Dr Greenstreet) and a couple of cruddy ones, met some wonderful people, was active in a couple of good organizations and - in general - enjoyed my time there. I still love the Brew Bayou in the AMU, and also like to stop by and check out what the Haggerty Museum of Art is exhibiting. And how cool is it to have a place like the Joan of Arc Chapel on campus. Additional shout out to the School of Dentistry, the only one in Wisconsin. The dentist I had for 20 years in Milwaukee was MU educated, as were his father and sister. And they were fabulous dentists. read more

Here's another place we visited on our college tours! We went to Blue and Gold day here. You go and hear about how it's a great school, the break off into smaller groups and listen to talks on different fields. The rest of day is kind of free form with lunch and campus and housing tours. We met first in the Al Macguire center, a big arena and I didn't really like that. I know the goal was for all of us to hear the same message but it was just so cold and impersonal. They could have made up for it by breaking us into small groups with a tour guide to escort us to the next spot, but that didn't happen. We were left to figure out where to go next and that was the way it went pretty much the rest of the day. Everyone was friendly and the new engineering building is gorgeous, but that didn't make up for my lack of direction. That's not bad when you are visiting a campus with rolling hills, but it's not good when there are stoplights and crosswalks you have to deal with! I've been to this blue and gold day twice now and son #1 is attending Marquette, so some things were done well! read more

As a parent of a sophomore, I have been stunned by how little I really care for Marquette. I find they send the students to do everything on line and offer little support in the area of one-on-one personal contact. Every year we have been there, they have raised the tuition by over $1000. There are constant muggings because of their urban location. When my daughter first started and I had questions as a parent, there was absolutely no one to talk to and no one knew anything about anything. I think it's a terrible university and would never recommend it to anyone. read more

I'm really glad I chose Marquette as my college. I had a great undergrad experience here, and my brother is going as well. I got screwed freshman year by being in OD, but I guess I was just unlucky. Their business program is great, and really helped me become a well rounded and profressional business person. Hopefully I'll have enough money to give back in the future! read more

Very good school in the SE corner of the Avenues West neighborhood of Milwaukee (Currently ranked #75 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report) but athletic dept. has issues on picking a name. History of sports names Blue and Gold w/ Golden Avalanche for football (Disbanded in 1960) Hilltoppers Warriors Golden Eagles (along with 15 other DI schools) Gold Golden Eagles (again) Also, very sketchy area immediately west of campus and an expressway borders east and south of campus. I still don't get why they couldn't have come to a compromise and been the Golden Warriors or Warriors and ditched the racist Native American head logo as warriors aren't only Native American. read more

The Marquette experience is truly ONE OF A KIND. A solid mix of a great education, great people, and of course some great bars. Wouldn't say many "great" parties but every once and awhile a so called block party would form and was fun until DPS (now officially the Marquette Police) would break it up. The teachers are wonderful, some better than others of course. Class selection is extremely solid with anything from ballet to advanced accounting or biochemistry. Dorms and meal plans are sub par... Updates needed in most dorms BUT the charm and history that comes along with them is irreplaceable. Lots of on campus eating options with 6 dining halls and the campus coffee shops known as the "brew." Including the multiple "off campus" eateries on wells street there is a lot too choose from. Solid 5 stars, but honestly it deserves every star in the sky. read more

Although I didn't go here for school, I have attended quite a few seminars here. From start to finish, Marquette knows how to book speakers, plan out food, plan out breaks, work their AV equipment and provide ample parking. I hope other schools do things just as great, but my only expeirience is Marquette. read more

What a pretentious school. I attended Marquette University my freshmen year of college and boy was it a mistake. I should've known the liberal arts program there wasn't top-notch and full of inadequacies. Granted I didn't have a clear cut vision for myself. I just thought well this a prestigious school with great acclaim from many parts of the U.S, I should obtain my degree there. However if you or your advisor haven't conceived a vision for your course of studies then forget-about-it, go somewhere else to "soul search" and find that right career path because Marquette will take your money and run with it. Dash Points For Thoughts: -If you're not upper middle class or rich, you're probably not going to fit in at Marquette University. -Marquette University prides itself on being a wonderful Jesuit University. As we know the Jesuits are a Catholic Christian order of priests and other vitally important people that provide the world an outstanding service. However just from going through the rounds of everyday life, the transitions, the experimentation and the processes, I find Marquette University almost Dogma free. For a Catholic Church established University I would think the college should be more church like. From what I can tell it's as secular as any run-of-the-mill college, however it does provide a nice big Cathedral right smack dab in the middle of it. Just in case a person needs to purge their sins, right? -It's expensive. After I dropped out of Marquette University I attended The Academy of Art University in downtown San Francisco, CA. I can safely say that I received much more bang-for-the-buck at The Academy of Art University. Their staff had much more of a presence within my homework. I also wasn't battling hundreds of other people's eyes for the same information in an auditorium setting. read more

I transferred to Marquette my sophomore year and it was the best decision I ever made. I had incredible opportunities and truly feel like the school cares about their students. There are tons of activities to cover any interests and they make a very strong effort to always having things going on for students to participate in. The only reason I knocked off a star is because I felt like there were certain departments/offices that didn't really have their stuff together, which got frustrating. Overall, great school, well worth the investment, and I miss it constantly. read more
