First off I don't want to diminish the popularity of Martha's Country Bakery and their growing followers. I was there again today. My experience is STILL relatively the same. The tables are close enough and small enough to hear what your neighbors are saying to each other, imagine what they think of you? LOL I noticed speaker music was playing a bit louder then the last time I was there. The fact that patrons have to shout over each other while sharing speaker music doesn't help with the ambience of enjoying a delicious cake over an interesting conversation. I ordered something new this time, a delicious lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Why didn't I see that description on my check? Strange. I also visited their website online, and noticed a lot of Stock Ai made photos and videos. I even found the website hard to navigate as well because it wasn't loaded with actual cakes and up to date pricing. So quite honestly the online website wasn't helpful with what they had in the shop. * Perhaps a future improvement between tables might be an above head moveable divider which actually could provide some privacy. There are Martha's Country Bakery stores all over NYC, but not all Martha's are created equal. This one in Bayside serves one of my favorite winter drinks, the White Hot Chocolate and it is not available at all Martha's locations. It is super sweet and even sweeter with whipped cream. It is unlike any hot chocolate I've ever had. Get it. For dessert, I like the Pineapple Shortcake, which is available at the Forest Hills Martha's, but not in Bayside. I thought I saw it once, but it turned out to be a Lemon Meringue cake. Instead, I'll go for a slice of Apple Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, Blue or Red Velvet cakes or the Oreo Mousse. If you would like to enjoy your cake and coffee in house, there is table service. There are plenty of 2 topper café tables, but if you have a bigger party, they will park a bunch of them together for you, if it's not too busy. If you get here before 8pm, tables are readily available, but it can get crowded as the evening progresses. We were surprised recently, when they sat 6 of us with no wait. They are open before the crack of dawn at 6am until 1am on Friday & Saturday nights. I imagine that the ovens never cool off and the bakers are there on the overnight shift to bake plenty of cakes ready for the next day. I made sure to get my Valentine's fix this year from Martha's Country Bakery specifically their white chocolate covered strawberries, which are my absolute favorite. I looked up their hours and saw they open at 6 a.m., and I knew that would be the perfect time to avoid the usual holiday rush. I didn't get there right at 6 (more like 7:30-7:45), but it still worked out perfectly. There was no crowd and no long line maybe one or two people ahead of us, which is nothing compared to the drastic lines they usually have during holiday seasons. I went in, saw exactly what I wanted, and grabbed three white chocolate covered strawberries. They were perfection. Fresh, beautifully coated, and just as delicious as I expected. Service is always good here, the inside was decorated with valentine designs and this visit was no different. I almost forgot if you like strong cappuccino's this is the place to get other than that it was a yuck for me lol everything else was smooth and enjoyable. I've learned that if you plan ahead and go early during the holidays, you can still get your favorites without the stress. And for me, chocolate covered strawberries from Martha's during Valentine's is a must every year. read more

I've been to this location several times. During the holidays it gets hectic in here. Today, the customers were scarce. I just find it hilarious when the employee says hello you and reciprocate and it appears that they are hiding behind the cakes that are displayed on top. I actually thought she was just welcoming me to the store. I asked for my names sake and she shows me a huge Napoleon with fruits. Well of course it would be entirely disrespectful to me to not purchase a Napoleon pastry. So I did and I also purchased the tiramisu. I ate some tiramisu with some ice cream from @sparkleonstageinc butter pecan. With the southern accent not Pecon! Anyway, it was very tasty and pared with the Butter Pecan ice cream. I enjoyed it immensely. The atmosphere and aesthetic are... You guessed it, a bakery, coffee shop. An area of improvement would be having items in store and not for order. Came here with a couple of friends after a huge meal (their desserts are not in the pictures) and everything we got hit the spot! Usually I go to Martha's in Forest Hills but this day we were closer to the one in Bayside so we decided to just dine in there and finish up chatting. The desserts that we got were great! The cookie was definitely chewy and had a decent amount of Nutella because every bite that I took had Nutella in it. The banana cream pie was not too sweet and very fluffy. The peanut butter hot chocolate omg it was soooo good. I love peanut butter with a passion and have never seen anything like it so I had to order it and I fell in love. My friends also enjoyed what they ordered as well! The reason why I took away one star was just because of the service. We did dine in during the later hours and one of my friends was indecisive but when the server took our order, they were sold out of what she wanted and the server looked annoyed when she asked for more time. Then when the server came back, she tried to order something else which was also sold out so she asked for more time again which left the server looking annoyed once more. I understand that it is a little annoying going back to a table multiple times for one order but it just felt awkward for the server to be annoyed when everything my friend wanted was sold out and not her fault. Absolutely one of the worst experiences I've had at a bakery. We came in as a group of 9 people for dessert after a great dinner. Before we could even look at the cakes, the host with blue hair stopped us and asked if we were dining in. We said yes and were told to wait 15-20 minutes, despite the fact that multiple tables were clearly vacant. When we politely asked if the empty tables could be combined, we were rudely shut down. We even offered a very reasonable compromise--splitting our group between two available tables (3 people at one, 6 at another)--and were still refused. No explanation, no effort, just attitude. The staff was completely unaccommodating, dismissive, and unfriendly. For a place that constantly has lines, the customer service is shockingly bad. We gave up and ordered to-go, and that was another mistake. When we got home, the cake slices were shoved together into one tiny box, destroying them. Icing smeared everywhere, slices stuck together, and nearly impossible to take out without falling apart. These cakes are expensive, and this level of careless packaging is unacceptable and lazy. The taste was the final insult. The so-called "best strawberry shortcake" was terrible. The strawberries were extremely sour, the sponge cake was drenched in simple syrup, and the overall flavor was unpleasant. Nothing special, nothing premium--just poorly made and badly presented cake. Calling this the "best" is laughable. Rude service, zero accommodation, careless packaging, and disgusting cake. Completely overrated and absolutely not worth the money. Always seen Martha's Country Bakery in forest hills but never stopped by since I don't like sweets that much.. Well I was passing by this location so we finally got some cake to try. It was packed early in the evening but the line went rather quickly. Seriously there's a hostess for a bakery... I got a chocolate fudge while L had the chocolate layer cake.. more frosting. We preferred our own slices. It was good but $18 is too much for 2 slices of cake. Though I have paid more for smaller treats but it has to be more unique and creative. Again a good slice of slice... but nothing special. Also mine was not stale since I looked at what was popular. Only a few slices left. I went to Martha's Country Bakery in Bayside last night after dinner in Flushing. I was craving dessert, but there really weren't many pastry or cake options around Flushing anymore. Every corner seemed to be a bubble tea shop, and I wanted something different. We decided to drive over to Bell Boulevard where Martha's is located. There is a public parking lot right down the street, so parking was easy to find. The place was crowded even after ten at night, which honestly surprised me in a good way. It was great to see a business still filled with people that late. There was a short wait for seating, but we decided to order takeout instead. I ordered a slice of Napoleon with berries and a piece of chocolate cake. The Napoleon was absolutely delicious. The layers were light and creamy with a generous mix of fresh berries including blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. The filling had the perfect balance of sweetness and texture. I did not get to try the chocolate cake because I was already full, but it looked amazing. One thing I wish they would improve on is labeling the cake slices for takeout. None of the items had any labels, so I had no idea what was what when I got home. That was disappointing because I wanted to try something new but could not even describe what I had. Who told me to order the Chocolate fudge slice and Triple Chocolate mousse slice?! OMG, moist Chocolate cakey heaven!!! Firstly, $10 for a huge slice of cake, I'm not mad at that! I ordered through Uber Eats & thought they were going to send 2 thin slices of bootleg cake... I was happily wrong. A box with 2 huge, tall slices, what a surprise! I tasted the chocolate fudge first: delicious, moist, rich, chocolatety, & not too overwhelmingly sweet. My favorite! Now the triple chocolate mouse slice almost ended me! WOW, what an intense layering of mousses. The white chocolate mousse in particular was a sugar bomb (to me at least). Took me 2 days to finish cause I found it very sweet, rich, & intense, needed to drink water along side it. Still delicious though! Ah, this place has been a long time favorite. Usually packed with people in here with a line out the door. Haven't been here in a long while but with relatives in town, we brought them here to impress. The counter windows are just filled to the brim with so many delicious looking, mouthwatering pastries. The Berry Napoleon, my favorite, was way more cream than flaky pastry. I kinda thought it should be the other way around. But I'm sure, Sweet Tooths out there would disagree. Still good though. Relatives scarfed it down, so no issues there. Berries were super fresh and sweet. Tasted a bite of the Tiramisu. Liquor flavor is pretty strong. Rainbow cookies, a childhood favorite. Never had them from here, but with kids in tow, we gotta get some. After a tasting, not my favorite rendition. The layers of jam were too thick for the tiny size of these cookies, which rendered them just way to sweet for my taste. Also the layer of chocolate could have been thicker. My family purchased a Tiramisu Cake from Martha's Country Bakery for my birthday. This was my first time having Tiramisu Cake since I usually go for their cheesecakes. The Tiramisu Cake has lady fingers cookies soaked in espresso and Kahlua, mascarpone cheese filling with chocolate sponge cake, decorated with chocolate shavings/cocoa powder. This cake was so light, fluffy, and moist. I usually don't like chocolate but the chocolate wasn't heavy and not dark chocolate. Buyer beware ! Ask for what's is fresh today! They allow stale and past due food to be sold. I have been going to this bakery for the occasional slice of cake for many years. It is very hit or miss sadly. Yesterday I spent twenty dollars for a stale scone, terrible latte ( barista skills matter !) and an at least 3 day old slice of peanut butter cheesecake. I could completely tell that the cake had been sitting for a number of days. This is really sad considering they take up a large piece of real estate on the block. Never bother with the French macarons unless your eating them there. This way you can ask for a refund when they are a week old. Another bakery ,French workshop, is 4 blocks away, it is less common to receive stale items here. I could have gone back to complain but it was a big hassle at the time. A quality bakery never sells old food. It's better to not have an item stocked. read more

Turned off by being over charged / manipulation of receipt. Been a customer for over 8 years. We always stop and get over $50 worth of pastries, same as my family either at this location or their others. And this is the first time we have had issues regarding charged purchases and what is finalized with my credit card. I've never encountered this before that a business would change my tipped amount on my receipt, especially a business I frequent. Their price tag has risen a lot (napoleon 8.50 a slice and the slices are smaller and virtually no fruit now). It's no longer worth the price tag especially with this incident. Beware and keep an eye on your receipts. I called and follow up with this issue and it was quickly rectified. However it shouldn't have happened in the first place. read more

After a quick Chinese meal we came across the street for dessert. This is a very popular and busy bakery with lots of different options. I opted for the Berry Napoleon. The only complaint I have is that when they brought out my slice, the pastry was soggy and stale. I rarely return my food but at the prices they charge, I couldn't let it go. Especially when several fresh Berry napoleons were brought out while we were waiting for our order, Now I understand orders by the slice will not be from the most recently baked, but I would expect that it should at least taste as if it were. This slice had definitely been sitting there a while. The waiter did happily replace with a fresh slice, the pastry was crispy this time, the way it is supposed to be. I gave this place 4 stars because I genuinely like this bakery but I would hover at 3.5 stars because of the prices and the initially stale slice. read more

I'm beyond disappointed with Martha's! Their desserts are pretty good, but the service has become downright awful. Last time I visited, the workers were as slow as molasses, but tonight (7/12/24) was even worse. After waiting in line for 15 minutes, the female Indian cashier completely skipped over me and took the order of the person behind me. Then another employee did the same thing, skipping me again to serve the person behind. Seriously, am I invisible?! When I asked the same cashier if there was a line to place orders, she rudely said, "Right here." I told her I was waiting and she had skipped me, and she just rolled her eyes and said, "Whatever, I said next!" There are so many great bakeries in the area. Neighborhood staple. I've always heard good things about the cupcakes here and seen the lines. I came at 4:30pm on a Sunday and there was no line. But it took a while for someone to help me. They have 3 items that are gluten and dairy free. They have a strawberry cake slice, a chocolate cake slice, and a carrot cake slice. I ended up opting to try to carrot cake slice. It's kind of expensive -- I paid $10 for one slice of carrot cake. I found it was good but nothing special. If I came back id try the strawberry cake slice since that seems to be more popular. read more

I called back she seemed apologetic said they would process a full refund and call me once that was done. Hours passed I called again spoke to the manager who laughed on the phone at me when I said I was promised a refund. He said you think I'm gonna lose 33.60 cents HAHA no. They really need to work on their people skills and how to manage employee errors. And tonight's manager needs to take a course on how to respectfully speak to customers.
