I came here from a booming BJJ scene where I trained directly under some of the better known names in the sport. My last school, in addition to being taught by two world class instructors, also fostered a philosophy and sense of community devoid of politics and ego while stressing unity in BJJ. When I moved to Florida, I was sure I had seen the last of this philosophy. This is simply not so. Like my last school and its affiliates, there are no "creontes" at ATT. All are welcome to come and go as often as you like. The instructors love what they do and provide a challenging, safe and fun training environment for kids and adults alike. Their partnership with the Longwood location makes it nearly impossible to miss a class if you don't want to. The students in the classes are friendly and helpful and only stand for your success much as they would their own, a few of them being amateur fighters. BJJ and MMA are the present and future of combat sports and American Top Team does a great job of representing them.

Maybe because I was raised as an army brat and that was the only way to talk to adults on the base, but I think it helped me so much as an adult and I always wanted to pass that down to my kid too. They offer the best summer camp options and after school program. We are just so lucky to have found a caring and safe group of people to help us out with teaching our kid self defense and life skills. They're known as one of the top, if not the top in my opinion, self defense schools in Florida. My son is in elementary school and came home one day showing me some moves he learned in class and literally knocked me off my feet, slamming me to the ground. It was not my best look, but I am so proud and happy to say that I think he can defend himself in a bad situation and am looking forward to everything else he'll learn at Zen. As I understand it, snipe signs are **illegal** in Seminole County, and are illegal in Winter Springs. The city and the county spend money each year removing illegal snipe signs. They don't even post the name of their business on the Snipe Signs, which makes me wonder, might they already know Snipe Signs are illegal? Who knows. Bottom line is these signs are illegal, and make our community look trashy. To the business owners, if I'm incorrect please let me know. I'm not perfect, but I see no evidence the sign is not yours.

The classes are quit pricey from what I have heard ($200+) a month and I think that is a bit to much for Karate lessons but my nephew goes three times a week. Also the place smell a bit from people sweating they need some air freshener in there big time even though I know it is going to be like that but at least they could keep the place a bit better for those that go in to watch there family or friends and maybe get a bigger location I notice they have a lot of classes but the place is small and can feel to congested at times. The owner is pretty cool and is a black belt in Karate. I recommend the place if you want to take Karate lessons but I really think they need to move out to a bigger place. What was this lazy 50 year old advertising agency guy going to do? I was never an athlete growing up and I can tell you that I have never set foot inside of an LA Fitness. I tried out various in-home fitness programs and saw some results, but it became boring for me, I quickly lost interest and there was a complete absence of motivation and challenge. Although I was always eating healthy, I knew I needed to find some kind of fitness program in order for my diet to be worth the effort. I needed something more, but what? Oh, how lucky I was that there was someone in my life who cared enough to give me one of the greatest gifts I could ever hope for: an introduction into the world of martial arts. My friend brought me to a different school that was teaching a watered down version of what I call "moo doe lite". Moo doe (which is taught at Oom Yung Doe) is traditional martial arts, with lineage that goes back centuries and was only passed on to the wealthy and privileged in East Asia. After spending almost two years at this other school, I was naturally led to the School of Oom Yung Doe in Oviedo for more proper and advanced training and focus. Our school teaches the principles of 8 martial arts combined and taught as one - it is brilliant! We learn the principles of Kung Fu, Bagwa, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Jujitsu, Tai Chi and all the classic martial arts weapons are available to learn. I instantly felt comfortable that this was the correct path for me. The increase in my strength, coordination, flexibility and even my confidence is unbelievable. One of my favorite parts of the school is the amazing students I have met and the quality, dedication and a sincere sense of caring from the Instructors. The leader of our school, National Instructor Rich, has been practicing for almost 40 years and teaches classes every week. There are also two Head Instructors who consistently provide some of the most rewarding and challenging lessons available. The Instructors truly make this school one of the finest martial arts school in the country. And if that's not already amazing, we have regular visits from International Instructors and Masters who provide specialized training throughout the year. You could not ask for a more talented, experienced and honorable group. During my journey I quickly noticed improvements at work in the form of my focus, energy level, problem solving abilities, attitude and patience. My boss has commented to me numerous times that I am "on fire". My clients benefit from my increased level of creativity and leadership, and see their business goals being clearly defined and hit on a regular basis. I am excited to see how I progress further through my training. Over and over again I found myself applying principles from class into my personal life; not just saying them, but incorporating them into my life. Through my training at Oom Yung Doe I have learned about what's truly important in life and how to become a better man... a better citizen... a better human being. It's more that just sweating, it's about following the correct path in life and making a difference for those important people in your life. They have quite a few programs available for kids as well as adults. All the instructors are really personable & friendly. The kids really love them & they handle large classes well. After the 2 week trial period my son decided he liked it & we signed up for the program which is a 1 year commitment. They have 3 different program levels available which they offer 3 payment options. You can put a small down payment & pay the rest over monthly installments, the next option is a larger down payment with the balance broken up into 2 more payments or you can pay all at once with a 25% discount off the full price. They offer 2 different age groups of kids classes, one for the little guys up to 5 years old & the older kids up to 12. The classes are a good size, about 20+ kids. Once they warm up they split the group up separating the older & bigger kids from the smaller ones.
