It was a $7500 retainer followed by discovery i.e. her paralegal calling me threatening me with "you know Mr. Carroll if we don't do all of this she could go for more" - to another invoice for txt and emails - to them basically extorting me for $5000 to finish the case. My husband and his attorneys buried me in irrelevant discovery items and "admissions" as Tess idly stood by, giggling in delight as she calculated how much she'd make off me to process it all instead of defending me. Even worse, how could I possibly feel secure that a judge would award me anything with Tess representing my best interests? I had to concede with my entire case after a year and a half because I could no longer afford to keep paying for nothing! My costs would have been more than the amount I *could* have been awarded. I believe in FAIRNESS. Justice. That thing I thought the legal system is supposed to bring. What did I find out the hard way?
