I went to 4 proms back in the day at Martin's West, and each and every one was a magical night. Nothing has changed. Martin's always delivers top notch service! From weddings, graduations, proms, banquets, you can't go wrong. My work has held a banquet here every year for the past 10 years. 1500 in attendance. The service is amazing! Food is good, heard numerous people talk about the crab cakes...all lump crab, vegetables, salad dressing. Every single employee is friendly and helpful. They went well out of the way to help. My overall experience was good but with lots of things need to be pointed out for the future client as Martin's many rules are very weird that you might missed to ask or forget to confirm before you book with them. you can bring your own caterer for food and they will let you do it but the process is very stressful and full of paperworks you have to book with caterer,then you will have to give those caterers contact details to Martin's ,they will ask all the info including food,insurance and other paperworks about the event and if caterer is failed to provide in time,they will not allow them as they are very precise about paperwork.so its lots of stress bcoz you have to call and make sure caterers send all details including menu,what kind of food,what are the contents,what temperature it need to maintain, Because when your caterer bring the food to Martin's ,from there Martin's will handle the food from kitchen to event hall including keeping on buffet and removing from buffet,refilling,making sure what to bring from kitchen. things to consider before bookings with Martin's (1)Main thing is when you event is over,you or caterer can not take the leftover food back..that food will go to trash because they do not allow any left over food which you paid and your some guest want to take to go food ,but unfortunately Martin's will not let you take any leftover food and it will go to trash.(food waste is not my nature bcoz there are lots of country where kids do not have food for weeks and we trash food will give a pain in my heart) (2) even you bring your own caterer,you can not bring water bottles or soda with your catering ,bcoz you have to purchase that from Martin's which is very expensive on average 4$/person for 3 hour average event. (3) Cake cutting..once you finish cake cutting ceremony for any event,either you can send cake back to kitchen and they will pack for you.but if you want the cake to be served with other food,they charge 75 cents per person for cake cutting and serve the cake on buffet.your caterer can not provide you this service for free bcoz of Martin's policy (4)time for decorating .I had my baby shower at 10am to 1pm (4 hour event)they only give 1.5 hr free for decorating and if you request you get full 2 hour to decoration which I got.but imagine decorators need 30-40 min just to unload the stuff from their vehicle to loading deck and bring it to the event hall which is also a task.how they will decorate event hall for 150 people in 1.5 hr?? But if you need extra time for your decorator ,you have to pay 75$/hour which I have to buy bcoz There is no chance they can finish in 1.5 hr. (5)if you consider out side caterer,and think that your caterer will come and drop the food and rest martin will handle,...nope...your caterer have to be there during entire event even though he is not doing anything ,so you have to pay your caterer for waiting and also you paying Martin's for the same service to handle the food.so your caterer can not just deliver food or just anyone else can not pick up the food from licensed caterer but they have to be present there during entire event..this does not make sense.bcoz either you guys let the caterer do whole thing which they suppose to do,or let them go once they deliver the food . (6) if you want to deliver some stuff on prior day to your event,you can do it but make sure you do not pack the boxes as they will have to open and check them before they let you put them in lockers and they themselves bring the stuff when u need at the event. (7) Head count is very tricky,I booked for 150 people and I only had head count of 110 adult and 25 kids but they charged full adult charge for kids bcoz kids were less than 30 in count.so make sure to ask about adult head count and kids head count bcoz I paid for nothing as most of the kids were 2-4 year age.and main thing You will have to pay minimum for what you assume your headcount will be while booking ,if later date you find out that you have 20-30 people less than what you assumed,you still have to pay for the number you told them while booking. I have positive things to note as well *hall is perfect for any kind of event with huge capacity,lighting is great inside the hall,service is great when they handle the food from kitchen to event hall and arrange on buffet and maintaining food temperature and all is great,they provide free water station if you do not want to purchase bottled water from them,staff is great to work with ,specially Robin,very helpful and supportive,location is perfect. Overall Martin's is expensive and charge for each and everything on top of you pay for hall. I paid 5500$ for baby shower event where I had 120adult + 20kids so average 37$/ person just for event hall and service they provide includes 1 hour soda serving at bar,cake serving ,food handling And the charges does not include Food,decoration,photography ,DJ which I paid separate. read more

My close friends had their wedding at this location, and we were very pleased. The location was very nice, with huge chandeliers, tons of space, and very tasty food. We had a few servers, that exceeded our expectations and made it their duty to give us more than what we ask for. In general they put on a beautiful wedding! My only gripe is that they booked a very loud crabfeast next door to our wedding; and the base from the music next door interfered with wedding toasts and tributes. In the future, I think that they should refrain from booking a potentially your loud event next to a wedding. read more

Came for an Awards Banquet. Plenty of parking in the adjacent parking lot. Upon entering, we were greeting at the ballroom entrance and once our tickets were checked (and ripped in two with one part retained by us for in and out privileges) we were allowed to sit at the table of our choice, which were decorated in red and white. As for Martin's West, let's just say as you walk in the venue and its various ballrooms, its like you walked on the set of "Dynasty". Heavy drapery, golden chandeliers, restrooms with gold toned faucets and trim. Yes, it was like l was at my senior prom all over again. They definitely need a facelift because it is LONG overdue. Upon sitting at our table, there was a tray of whay looked like assorted chocolates at first glance, but turned out to be the dessert for the evening, an array of tasteless mini cheesecake bites, eclairs and fruit that was so disappointing. Our first course was a chicken and clam chowder topped with a puff pastry. As l am leery of anything clam that is not fried, l was hesitant. I decided to take one for the team and was impressed. The chowder arrived hot and was a bit watery, but it had nice flavor with chunks of chicken and l presume clam in a cream based sauce with veggies served with piping hot dinner rolls. The puffed pastry was a golden brown and flaky. The main course was chicken breast with a citrus glaze & jumbo crabcake with rice and sauteed green beans. It was good. I didn't care for the glaze on the chicken breast, but it was not dry. The crab cake had a nice flavor and very little filler. The meal was an overall hit. The servers were attentive and professional.The restrooms were clean as was the entire venue. They didnt serve any adult beverages, instead they had a "slushy" bar with strawberry, orange cream and pina colada flavors. To say that this was too sweet was an understatement. One swig of this and l felt like l was about to go into a diabetic coma. Needless to say l stuck with the water. Our event was made special due to the professionalism of our event planner, Sue, the banquet manager and the staff that worked on our event. The service, as always, was amazing, and the food was outstanding and plentiful. The beautiful ambience of the venue adds to having an event well done. Their attention to detail made our recent class reunion a big success. This is only a review for the venue and food - 4.5 stars! I was here last night for a sorority banquet. My jaw dropped when I saw the venue - it's absolutely gorgeous, inside and out! The chandeliers, window dressings, flowers, EVERYTHING help to set such a beautiful mood for any event. The Christmas decorations only added to the scenery. The staff here are so friendly and very professional. We had an open bar and the bartenders were extremely efficient with serving our large party. They were also great with creating "special" drinks whenever we ran out of creative requests. I loved the food as well - we had everything from steak to santa fe chicken, a pasta bar, candy bar, crab cakes, and red velvet cake.. everything was delicious. My only complaint is that they took the plates away way too quickly. I stepped away for less than a minute and when I came back, my drinks and dessert were gone! All in all, Martin's Caterers helped to create an absolutely magical night and I would recommend the venue to anyone. read more

I had a great experience with Martins West. I had the pleasure of working alongside Shira, John and Miss Barbara to help make my friend, Funmi's wedding day perfect! And it was! Shira remained professional and kind, although Funmi and I sent her numerous emails throughout the process. John was very patient and helpful during the rehearsal and throughout the wedding day. Miss Barbara was also very helpful throughout the wedding day. And the entire staff was extremely professional, well organized and kind. On August 4th, I organized my very first Crab Feast event with Martin's Caterers at Martin's West. My planner, Ali S., was very helpful, patient, and understanding. We began planning the event rather close to the event date, but Ali had everything under control. When we arrived at the Catering Hall, a bit late, we were welcomed with open arms. The layout for food was magnificent, and the servers were excellent. Our event included people from 21-70 years of age, and we all enjoyed our time at Martin's West. After the event, people asked repeatedly if I would repeat the event because the catering hall was more beautiful than they had expected. It was simply gorgeous. This is the 2nd wedding that I have been in that was at Martin's West (both in December). The staff is amazing. They are professional and very accommodating. Everything was on cue and set up in a timely fashion. The holiday decorations is December are so beautiful. There is plenty of parking on their parking lot. The food is to die for!!!!! The crab cakes, breast of hen, and garlic mashed potatoes are out of this world. My husband didn't care too much for the brisket, but I could care less about that because I don't eat brisket anyway. The other food items: meatballs, salads, carving stations were all so good! If I need something catered, I'm definitely going to inquire about getting it done by Martin's!!!! read more

I had tickets for the New Years party, was unable to go because my husband got sick, had a car accident and was hospitalized. I know the ticket say no refund, however some business ask for proof and refund the money or allow you to use them at another time. Mr. Alex Tarasco, the General Manager of Martin West, only said he was not going to refund anything. I think that is very insensitive, not caring about people, only his money. My niece had her wedding here yesterday. Martins West is a Beautiful venue, but during the reception the Bride asked the DJ to turn the music down, so he turned the music down and then turned it back up a few minutes later. The mother of the Bride asked him again to turn it down and he said, "I can turn it down, but as soon as you walk away someone else will just ask me to turn it back up." The mother of the Bride said, "I'm the Mother of the Bride, my request trumps everyone else." He said ok and turned it down, but turned it back up a few minutes later. He refused to play the songs requested by the Bride. He only played 4 of the songs requested, the Father/Bride dance, Mother/Groom dance, and the two for the Bride and Groom, first and last dance. When questioned by the sister of the bride why he wasn't playing their songs he said, "No one will know those songs so I picked my own." Before the end of the reception the Bride and Groom wanted to leave, but were held up by guests stopping them, so the sister of the Bride asked the DJ to play a send off song and the DJ refused and said he couldn't do that without his manager. We also had a lot of trouble with the wait staff taking our food and drinks if we didn't keep our hand on our plate. They tried to take my husband's plate and he said that he wasn't done but they stood there and kept reaching in and taking a hold of his plate. He told them 4 times that he was not done. They did not even walk away and just kept letting go and then reaching back in and pulling his plate away. He finally grabbed his plate, turned around and said, "No, I'm still eating that, I'm not done." I said, "He's still eating that!" Then they left but about 5 minutes later came back and tried to take his plate again. By that time I was frustrated and said, "He's not done. He wants to eat that!" They left his plate alone after that. I had to go find a coffee cup for my mom to get a drink of water because they took the glasses of water away and there were no other glasses except at the bar. read more

We had our wedding reception in May at the Dogwood location. We loved everything about this place from the food to the decor. Our wedding planner Diane was wonderful and they made the whole planning experience a breeze for us. Our friends and family were delighted and we all had such a wonderful time. The venue is lovely and the food was delicious, BUT. . . We were there for a wedding of around 200 people. My biggest complaint is that the servers were practically pulling our plates or glasses from our hands WHILE we were still eating and drinking. We kept telling them that we were still eating, but as soon as we would face in the opposite direction to talk to another person, they would reach in and try to take the plate. Some of the people at our table started keeping their hands on their plates and glasses when they weren't actively eating or drinking. It felt like they were rushing us out of there. Don't judge a book by its cover. Meaning, the venue is absolutely beautiful, but the good experiences end there. I recently had my 200 guest wedding and reception at Martins West. I have to say that unfortunately, from the moment we signed the contract, the customer service dropped drastically. Between the serious lack of communication & rudeness of our planner and the very disappointing reception experiences, I regret choosing Martins as my venue. First of all, the planner does not show up to the actual event that they plan. There was a serious lack of communication from the planner to the person handling the event on the day of. I had to stop several times throughout the day to correct the happenings which sorely took away from me being able to enjoy my wedding/reception. They were even coming to me to ask questions... Several of my requests were completely ignored (Like serving my wedding cake, which, unknown to me at the time, was given to my family at the end of the reception not even cut.). None of my requested songs were played or played at the correct time (Martins employed the DJ, and I was told by the DJ Delights that Martins controls what they do). The DJ also made very derogatory remarks about some of my guests, which were over heard by my family members. I could go on and on and list everything (like guests being served frozen chicken from the stir fry station or my husband not even getting dessert because it was removed long before the reception was even over), but I think the point is received. It was my wedding and I made the most of the situations that I was not able to avoid, so please choose carefully when choosing Martins West as your venue. Maybe it was just this location or maybe is was the planner. I guess I will never know. But I have contacted the GM, per his request, and he hasn't even felt the need to address the issues that we had. read more

I had my wedding ceremony and reception (300 guests) at Martin's West in June 2016, and I highly recommend the venue, especially my Martin's Planner Shira! Planner - It was very important that all my vendors were detail-oriented, and Shira was a dream-come-true, where she even asked how the napkins should be set on the table. Shira responded within 24 hours to all emails, regardless of how hectic her day was. She truly cared about ensuring the event was organized and as the Bride wishes so much that she noted a small discrepancy in my long event timeline spreadsheet. She is my #1 reason I recommend this venue. Budget - I compared Martin's West to several other venues, and Martin's West was able to match them and had a better budget and offer, especially with their unbeatable chandeliers and gorgeous tall pillars. Options - They have 50 linen color options, and we were able to do color contrast for our table linen and napkins to keep the appearance unique. They have so many food options, if interested. (We did outside Indian catering). Hospitality - My wedding was allotted 6 Banquet Managers. The amount of care they all had towards me was amazing. They would ask if I needed water or food throughout the day, if everything is going well, etc. They were there to arrange my veil after my wedding party had gone on the ceremony stage and it was my turn to walk down the aisle. They were there to open the curtains when my ceremony aisle song was queued. They were there in the dressing rooms leaving beautiful appetizers (for free) to ensure we weren't hungry. They were there during rehearsal and said that they only wanted to know my needs and opinions. They were there when I needed to find my Maid of Honor or Father to tell them random things related to the wedding or program. They made it really feel like my day. Extra - They made extra large flower arrangements as surprise gifts for me and had them set up at the reception and ceremony. They had this beautiful ceremony entrance set up that I wasn't expecting, so it made the back of the room look beautiful. They gave my husband and I an awesome Congratulations gift basket, and when our candle lighters were no where to be found, they gave as several for free saying "they want to ensure we leave with everything we came with." Martin's West goes above and beyond in just being a venue but gives you a planner and an experience to love, cherish, and remember. read more

Staff was courteous & polite. Decor is outdated but nice. Restrooms and other areas clean and well stocked. Went to a wedding and reception. Left my table for few minutes and returned to find my silverware, glass and coffee had already been cleared away. I Was not offered any refills on my drinks. The Staff was way too energetic to clean up by practically taking plates out of people's hands. Several young people complained to me about the rudeness of the DJ and that the music was way too loud even though several people, including the bride, complained. Hed turn it down fir a short time then turn it right back up. I also heard the bridal party complain that the DJ refused to even use the bride's Playlist. They didn't leave the ice cream sundae bar out long enough for everyone to even get any nor did they have any spoons to eat it with at first. Felt uncomfortable trying to get a 2nd trip through buffet as it was obvious they were rushing us out the door. Food was so so. Nothing to rave about. BUT, The bride's assistant was extremely helpful, always there to anticipate the bride's every request. She was amazing. read more

An extremely disappointing experience. We recently attended a formal banquet here, and had a very uncomfortable, borderline irritating evening because of the poor service and mediocre (at best) food. To make matters worse, there were several dignitaries present, including two U.S. Senators and at least three members of the U.S. House of Representatives. To begin, we were seated at a round table meant for eight, but was set for ten. There were other tables for eight that had empty seats. So we were overcrowded from the start. The table was preset with coffee carafes, various beverage and wine glasses, and to my disbelief, the desert (a slice of cake), was already on the table. This was at 6:00 p.m. For a dinner that was scheduled to actually be served at 7:30. The worst part was the overcrowded geography of the table. You couldn't move a thing to use it for fear there was no space to return it. The dinner started with an average, at best, salad, followed by the main course, which was an overcooked steak and unremarkable salmon filet. No choice was given with respect to how you preferred your steak cooked. After finishing, the coffee that had been sitting on table for two hours was tepid. No servers offered refills or were in any way helpful. They only placed a plate in front of you and removed it when you were finished. Very little effort was made to remove empty glasses which were in over-abundance on our table, making every move throughout the evening uncomfortable. The desert was eaten at least two hours since it had been initially put on the table. I found the entire experience to be sub-par, and can't believe they stay in business with this low level of customer service. It seems that they preset the tables for their own convenience, not the diners', and have a largely untrained staff with respect to service. I hope I never again have any occasion that requires me to eat at Martin's West. read more

When it comes to hosting a very special event, like a wedding, this place is truly the best in its categorY. Absolutely beautiful decor, crystal chandeliers and a winding staircase, clean and accomadating ladies rooms (very important!) and the food is outstanding. The most important part is the staff, who were the utmost of professionalism that I have ever seen at an event like this. Just attended my cousin's wedding, and although I am somewhat anti-wedding-reception halls, this one is truly very good. I haven't attended a wedding here since 1976, when my Aunt married my Uncle. There was a bridal salon upstairs back then, and I think only one ballroom. I remember my young eyes thinking this was really classy, and later, used it as the standard of all wedding thereafter, (to which I was often disappointed). I was very glad to see that Martin's West hasn't lost any of its standards or the decor. All of us really enjoyed ourselves, and there were really no complaints at all.
