It's a bit weird and can lead to irritating queues in bizarre places. This is a multi-floored WH Smiths like any other. Magazine and newspapers abound on the ground floor and as ever it can be impossible to reach the mag you want through all the avid 'browsers' reading their way through several tenners worth of magazines. The stationery, gift wrap, card and craft sections are useful but often lack competitive pricing with somewhere like Staples, but Smith's is in a more convinient location so I guess you pay for that.

The post office…read moreoperated on the ground floor at Smith's, while providing much needed services, is frankly poorly run and you can expect to be waiting in long queues at the best of times; not ideal if you are in a rush! Smith's also seems to be lacking a bit of direction about what it actually is. Large retailers like Tescos and specialists like Partners often have as good as selection on books and stationery and often better prices. The main reason I still visit the store is because they still have an unbeatable selection of magazines to browse and purchase, but other than this, I can't think of anything they offer that somewhere nearby doesn't offer at a better price.

Bargain Books is a very handy small shop in the town centre on the high street. They also stock other stationary gift items such as calendars and diaries. It is only a small shop and can at busy times become slightly difficult to get around. Unfortunately I have recently seen yet another closing down sign on the shop window which if this does happen would be a loss to the town in my opinion.

Like many poundshops its often very crowded with little room for space down each aisle. However there are a lot of items of offer including well known brands like Colgate or Fairy., Whilst the store isn't as big as say Poundland down the street there does seem to be a lot more variety here especially on food items. Cheap sweets and crisps are essential when you're throwing a party or just for your kids lunch box and they come through here with all the popular brands. The staff though bring down the tone of the store in my opinion. They seem rather unfriendly and just bored with their job and there's really only three tills that are very small and have people queueing right round the store blocking up the aisles as they do. The products you buy are usually very good though be careful on trying to save a few quid on some items as the cheap alternative is awful [power tack for one - a cheap version of blue tack].

The store is also set out really well, with plenty of room to get about, unlike the old store where I just couldn't get my pram around! It also seems really clean, tidy and well lit. There are loads of changing rooms that are all really clean too. The staff also seem very friendly and helpful.
