Excellent udon. Chicken Katsu Curry was great, though truth be told, I prefer Katsu sauce to curry with this dish. However, nothing wrong with either the Katsu or with the curry sauce. Self-service and SUPER fast food! This is what fast food strives to be had it high-quality food. Ambiance? None. It's about the food...and rightly so. Don't miss this place.

The long lines here just make sense. You can literally see them making the noodles as you order. The noodles are so good and definitely taste fresh made. You will pick your noodle bowl and then pick up a second plate if you'd like to pick up some tempura as well. The gyoza were especially good. So much food at a great price and it tasted amazing. Not much else to ask for. A definite must go.

One of our go to spots when we're in town. Always long lines here, so go either early or late for your meal time. If you do end up standing in line when it wraps around the building, don't worry the line goes a bit faster than it looks. The go to here is the nikutama. It's their best seller for a reason. That slightly sweet broth enriched with fresh thick noodles and accoutrement just hits hard.

I had heard of Marugame and I love udon, so I was excited to try this place. Because they are so well known, I knew they would have long lines, so I opted to go off peak hours and went around 3pm. There were maybe 5 people ahead of me in line who hadn't started placing their order yet. As you're waiting in line, they have large menu signs for you to look at to ponder over what to order. I got the regular sized Nikutama udon, hot, which came with beef, sweet onions, and a soft boiled egg. After you order your main dish, you can add some sides, but I knew the udon would be more than filling, so I didn't get anything else. The Nikutama came with beef, but I didn't love it. I should've gotten the pork chashu, which is my usual go-to. Was this the most amazing udon I've ever had? No, but it's in a convenient location if you're staying in Waikiki and it's reliable. They had a steady stream of customers, but the workers were able to keep things moving fairly quickly - especially important when they're busier!

If you're in Honolulu and thinking about trying Marugame Udon, do it. The noodles were perfectly chewy and fresh, and we both got the Number 1 Beef Udon. Holy crud, it was SO good. The broth was rich and comforting, and the beef had a sweet and delicious flavor. Even though the line looked long, it moved insanely fast, which made the whole experience even better. One of the coolest parts was getting to choose your own tempura cafeteria-style. There were so many options, and everything we tried was crispy and delicious. This was so authentic to the udon I had in Japan.

Marugame is the only reason we ever come into waikīkī. You can see them making the noodles by hand which gives them a really chewy texture. The line is normally pretty long but they're super efficient so it moves quickly and there's always seats opening up. The prices have definitely gone up over the years but it's still one of the most reasonably priced meals especially for waikīkī. There's a big variety of tempura which are always hot and fresh. Workers are super friendly and helpful too, feels like you're in japan.

The best udon I've ever had hands down. I got the number 1 & number 2 because we came back twice in a row. Preferred the number 1 but both excellent. The service was quick and despite the line, things move fast. Ambiance cute.

Long line at the heart of Waikiki. House made fresh noddles (udon style). Get in line, pick your broth/curry and noddles/rice and then you pass by all the fried items. Tempura can be made Fresh per your request. Then one of the staff will help located a table for you. Very touristy place (then again all of Waikiki is). Worth trying - not sure if I would wait an hour in line for. We got lucky and the wait was about 15 minutes which is unheard of! Chicken curry Katsu and Nikutama were both delicious!

Hit the spot! Not sure it lived up to all the hype, but after a long day and being jet-lagged, it was comforting and satisfying. I got the #1 and loved it. Hubs got #9 and added Chicken Katsu Chicken Katsu was the star: juicy, flavorful, not overly breaded, and not greasy. My #1 had great broth flavor, but the meat was a little too fatty for my taste. If I lived here, I might come again, but it's not something I would recommend for someone staying in the area. Much better eats in the area.

5 stars for the price, efficiency and for the food. Love getting to watch the food being made fresh behind the counter, including the homemade udon noodles. The line gets super long at night - we've only ever gone for lunch or for an early dinner where there was no wait or else it was very short. Ordering can be a little chaotic; is seems rushed and is loud in there, so be prepared to order in advance. It was hot during the time we visited so I got the chicken salad and it was so fresh and delish!

Line up, grab a tray, and place your order

We were lucky, went around 3PM and didn't have to wait long at all! I'm a first timer. First you grab your tray, place your order which they give to you on the spot, then you can pick whichever sides you want. The restaurant is fairly small. Udon was on point, I also really enjoyed the crab tempura, it was large! Only downside is that there are no bathrooms there.

    Vincent M.

Absolutely banger of a place to eat at in Waikiki! The service was quick and efficient and the food was tasty, plentiful, and offers a variety :) This is the best comfort meal in Waikiki!!! Warning, it can seem a little crazy at times but you'll get your table to eat at, don't worry :-)

    Christine L.

Marugame is a must visit every time we visit Hawaii. My husband and I have dined in and also ordered pick up when the lines were too long, but honestly, the wait is always worth it because the udon is so fresh! The restaurant has a lively ambiance that captures the energy of Waikiki! Just a heads up: you cannot save seats while waiting for your food, so your whole party needs to be ready to sit once you've gone through the line. The staff is consistently friendly, and despite the crowds, the services moves incredibly fast. On this visit, I tried the tempura for the first time and particularly loved the shrimp and sweet potato. It was perfectly crispy! Since I'm pregnant and currently avoiding soft boiled eggs, I skipped my usual Nikutama and tried the beef udon. It was delicious! The beef complimented the fresh udon noodles and broth. It satisfied my cravings!

As for me, I mainly came to try their Minute Chicken Cake Noodles, and as a bonus......... I actually got a 20% discount thanks to my friend - Jennifer C. who let a Bruddah know about da DEALAGES in da Sunday food section newspaper, as they had a coupon! The Sunday morning when I came with my friend, I can clearly see that this restaurant was thriving, as every table in the restaurant was taken. Fun Station specializes in noodles, but if you're not into that, they do serve other items like - soups, vegetable dishes, rice plates, & porridge (jook). Upon looking over the menu, we ordered the following items - 1. Frrrrrrried Chicken Wings ($9.95) for an appetizer 2. Minute Chicken Cake Noodles ($17.95 - minus da 20% coupon DEALAGES) 3. Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton in soup ($18.95) What can I say about da grub??? Da chicken wings came out hot & crispy. Although they featured only "flats" vs. drums (I like drums), I must say da wings was nicely executed. As for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles.........nicely plated on a fancy smanshy panda plate. The cake noodles weren't drowning in gravy, so the noodles stayed crispy on the dish. I really liked how they did this dish, and would easily come back here to eat it again. My friend had the Beef Brisket Tendon & Won Ton soup. The dish looked good, and there weren't any complaints, so I take it that it was pretty ono! Overall, a very satisfying meal and the service here was on point, as the staff was friendly & very efficient. Easy 5 stars for the Minute Chicken Cake Noodles! Chance 'em!

Restaurant is very casual with about 10 to 12 tables. They were pretty busy when we arrived, but they moved with the quickness to make sure everyone got their food timely. I love the presentation of the flying noodle, although I was in a fan of the dish itself as it had a little sweetness, which I wasn't a fan of. It was just OK to me. Young server quickly greeted us and let us sit anywhere. He asked if we've been here before and quickly ran down some specials. I love it when they ask "been here before?" I was set on Black garlic Tonkotsu. Served with thin ramen noods. I love thin noodles and they're not yellow. No need to dye the noodles. I like them as is. Rich broth and crunchy garlic. Their special is carmelized kimchee gyoza and Gochuchang, spicy ramen. Kimchee gyoza wasn't too spicy but spicy ramen is spicy as it should be. Best of all, music playlists were from 90s. Love it even more! My Era! Anyways, comfortable, cute, easy ramen joint in Kaimuki with excellent service. You can park in Kaimuki municipal parking lot.

The flavor of my creamy garlic shoyu ramen was fine. Nothing special, but good enough. However, it was cold (not room-temperature. Cold!) and there was very little of it. "Lazy tax" aside, I could've had a much tastier and more satisfying meal for way less if I had just added some veggies and (very) little meat to a pot of Sapporo noodles prepared at home. I understand times are hard, especially for small businesses, in this economy but pouring more broth would've made a big difference. Even if I had to po it in the microwave myself.

I tired all the noodles to make sure I get the right one and I finally figured it out. I like the ramen noodle. The spice and flavor are good. One thing to note is if you aren't familiar with the Chinese peppercorn beware as it has a tingly sensation on your palate. Great taste overall.

As we passed several food vendors whose mouthwatering aromas made our stomachs growl, we headed to our favorite Chinese cake noodle restaurant. Still, we noticed DAJI 黔香阁 (Qianxiang Pavilion) near the cultural plaza's stage. I quickly opened my Yelp app and found its page listing as Daji Spicy Pavilion, which gives potential diners' taste buds a heads-up on the fiery spice levels. After recognizing the Chinese characters for Qianxiang, a town in China's Guizhou province, I assumed that this restaurant served Guizhou cuisine, which is famously noted for its bold, sour, and spicy flavors. I led my husband to the restaurant's window, where their Guizhou food menu and pictures were displayed. While peering into the restaurant, we noticed that only five tables inside could accommodate a total of 20 people. Three of the five tables were occupied, so we snagged one of the last available ones near the entrance. A young female worker greeted us with a smile and provided menus and glasses of iced water. We noticed we could either order through the QRC or wait for the server to return to take our order. As we were deciding on our meals, the server quickly returned to our table and informed us that their juicy, in-house-made dumplings were sold out and that two other menu items had been discontinued. Also, four office workers were eating their lunches. Apparently, they all ordered their food spicy because we could see them dabbing sweat from their faces and necks, guzzling water, and exclaiming how spicy yet delicious it was. Their "suffering" prompted us to order the non-spicy or mild noodle soups. FOOD: -Signature Beef Tendon Soup: My husband ordered this noodle soup with thin noodles and opted to upgrade to a large serving for just a dollar more. The huge bowl of thin, slightly firm, and chewy noodles was generously topped with slightly bouncy, gelatinous, melt-in-your-mouth textured beef tendon chunks. The tender beef tendon chunks weren't as exotically spiced as Cantonese-style, which is heady with star anise, soy sauce, cinnamon, ginger, and more, but still flavorful. The broth was clear, clean-tasting, and refreshing with cilantro, chopped green onions, and pickled Napa cabbage slices. My husband noticed that the thin noodles did not seem to bloat or get soggy even as he took his time eating this large serving. $15.99 + $1 (extra noodles) -Signature Beef Brisket Soup: I ordered the signature beef brisket and swapped several tender brisket chunks with my husband's beef tendon. I prefer thicker noodles, so I ordered them and upgraded to a large serving since we missed out on the dumplings. I expected the Guizhou-style beef brisket to be as clean-tasting and mild-tasting as the tendon. The beefy-tasting brisket was tender and jiggly, while the pickled cabbage slices, cilantro, and green onions further enhanced the clear, non-greasy, and refreshing hot broth. My noodles also didn't bloat even though we took our time eating. $15.99 + $1 (extra noodles) I'm not sure we'd ever try the spicy soup or the dry noodles, since our taste buds can barely handle the numbing Sichuan mala spice anymore. But we'd gladly return to try their other mild Guizhou dishes and look forward to their dumplings. Also, the portions are quite generous to begin with, and we found that upgrading was an overkill for us because we found ourselves waddling home.
