I finally made it over to get bagels at Marx's. I have missed the bagels from the former Blocks bagels. They have said many different flavors of bagels so you're sure to find something you like. They even offer made to order breakfast sandwiches. The employees are super friendly and fast to serve you. If you have any questions they are quick to answer. This was my first visit since it has changed from Blocks to Marx. I will not lie, I felt emotional walking in because it has been Blocks since me and my 33 year old son's childhood and I am 56. My mom bought our bagels from Blocks and our cakes and doughnuts from Reisch. My first independent purchase from Blocks was a pizza bagel. The first thing I noticed is that they had the old Blocks schedule. I could get a bagel before work. Yeah. The second thing I noticed was the self serve soda machine. Even though I don't drink soda, nice. The third thing was the menu. I will add pictures later. We aren't only bagels. If I wanted pancakes or French toast, they had it. The service is still warm and professional. I asked for a toasted bagel with my cream cheese on the side. I read a previous review complain about getting too much cream cheese. lol I would rather have too much than not enough and remove what I didn't need. Now this is what really made me leave this review because the little things count. The cream cheese was whipped! OMG I wasn't battling to spread my cheese with a plastic knife. Employees didn't greet me for a full 30 minutes. They didn't seem short staffed as much as they just didn't care. Everything was done very slowly to the point I think it must be deliberate. There doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency at all for a morning rush. They either need to train employees better, or offer a better pay so they could get better employees. But the employee who finally came up to greet me was the only one who seemed to actually wanted to be there. He was very nice and welcoming. The cream cheese was amazing. Do not go to this unsanitary establishment! I witnessed the gentleman making the bagels pull them out of the oven and then use a barehand(no gloves) to push the bagels off of the wood plank into the metal crates. He did this multiple times in between wiping the sweat from his forehead with his barehand as well! I tried to reach out via email and got no response. I then followed up with a phone call to the manager and was told he would call me back that day and I still have not received a phone call. read more

Where to start.....we ordered and waited 20 mins and still didn't get our black coffee. Cashier seemed like she had no clue what to do or what was going on. Kept messing with her nose ring ..everything seemed unsanitary and we finally decided to get refund and leave. One of the coworkers yelled at another coworker like she was being funny and it was awkward and embarrassing to see. They asked me multiple times what syrup I wanted in my ice coffee prior to me cancelling everything. The actual owner needs to step up and go in and help bc this was horrible. I just ended up going to the lox bagel shop downtown bc I never have an issue and they have great food and coffee. I won't be back to Marx ever. read more

That was a different experience. The positives are many, crisp digital menu boards, Multiple modern registers, bright lighting, clean polished surfaces, the solarium being back open, crisp bagels loaded with cream cheese. There is a lot of promise and potential here. There are also opportunities. I knew I had cause for concern when the register refused to ring up the iced Americano. I was then asked to verify the temperature, size and beverage selection multiple times by the four employees felt required to make an Americano (one to get the cup, one to get the ice, another to brew the coffee component, still another to take the cup out to the soda fountain to fill it with cold water). My best description of the abominable cup of beverage resulting in all of these efforts is atrocious. A bagel shop not a coffee shop that still needs to get their processes down is the general take away and also they are currently credit card only. read more

Came in today, Wednesday at 11 AM to see two employees standing around behind the counter. I was not greeted. I asked if they were open and one girl just looked at me. After the restaurant behind the counter completely empty. Not a single person inside the. I can't understand how they say. This is fresh daily if there's no movement. To say I left without purchasing anything and will not come. I wish the original BLOCKS bagel shop would come back. I won't give this place another month of business before they close. I ordered and prepaid for my meal online to be ready when I planned to arrive, 2 hours later. It was not ready, and I was told that the bagel flavor that I ordered, while shown as available on the website, has really not been available for months. I chose a different flavor, but my original choice was a premium flavor and $1 extra. I was offered a 2nd regular bagel to take with instead of a refund. The atmosphere was uncomfortably warm and smelly inside Marx. While 75 degrees outside, inside was a heat wave, musty and with a lingering odor of fried/burnt food. This is the second year that the HVAC system is not turned on. "The landlord hasn't fixed it" is the excuse again, and it's a lie, because the other stores in the strip plaza all have working air conditioning. My sandwich was awful: the bagel was stale, the scrambled egg was burnt, the Swiss cheese melt was cold, and the veggie sausage was missing. I won't be back. read more

I am very impressed with the new owner. The same GREAT bagels. I love the salads to build from scratch and very fresh, with an enormous variety. I come for this and the great spreads. my fav is the smoked salmon, etc. Fresh and delish!! I have to say alot for the hospitality, we came from acrossed town to get a great salad for lunch, and much to our surprise they were closed , it was 2:20pm. The owner unlocked the door to allow us to get their caeser salad, chef salad with tuna and a tub of egg salad available fresh packaged, giving us our pick 1/2 doz bagels on the house. We were disappointed, not knowing the new ownership hours, but still gave great business EVEN WHEN CLOSED and already cleared for the day. First time coming since it was blocks. It was extremely hot in there. The lady who helped us was very kind but we felt bad for the workers having to work in there with it being as hot as it was. It felt colder outside! I ordered a bagel like I always used to and it tasted like it usually did. Blocks used to give you a pickle with your bagel but Marx did not give us a pickle. The bagel I had was AWFUL. It was doughy and badly undercooked...and as a result, when toasted it wasn't even remotely crisp. Sad to say, Lender's is better. And the service was ridiculously slow. Because they're new at this location, and they replaced all the people who worked for Block's (WHY????? They knew how to run the store and make fantastic bagels!), I will probably give them another chance in a couple months. But for now, Fox's in Bexley is the ONLY worthy heir to the Block legacy! Until and unless Marx's improves, they should take down the old Block's signage on the north side of the building. They're dishonoring Mr. Block's memory. I'm giving them 1 star only because they slapped a coat of paint on the place, and I can't give them zero stars. read more

Have been meaning to try Marx for a while after the closing of Blocks. Was the same great bagels and cream cheese!

Such a disappointment. Not sure why Block's Bagels sold out to this chain. It is a completely different experience now. Yes, the place was old, and needed an update-but the bagels were always the best!! The salad "bar" is gone, and so are so many things that kept us coming back. The main difference to me-the bagels are not any good. The texture is wrong-no bagel chew. I ordered an everything bagel with olive cream cheese--who uses tasteless black olives for that? They need to be briny and green! Gone were most of the goodies in the baked area too. It was just such a bad, sad experience-we won't be back. Not sure why Block's sold, but I'm sad they did. Now I have to find another place around here with good quality bagels-and that's hard. read more

Marx maintains the same recipe as Block's bagels (I had been a Block's customer for decades). It was wonderful Marx took over the business when Hal passed away. The bagels are excellent and made onsite, daily. Service has been excellent. Initially they weren't taking cash and did not have 'bagel/bread only' counter open due to labor issues, but that has been resolved since the opening, so I can get in and out quickly for a bag of bagels, just like Block's. The pastries I have tried thus far, are not very good so I can't recommend them (I am thinking they are baked offsite but have not asked). I liked the bread, hopefully someday they'll add sourdough. Bread is cheaper than Panera. Also, the irresponsible landlord (apparently Robert Weiler) has still not repaired the air conditioner (same issue as when it was Block's). Thus at present I recommend take-out only, due to dining room being very hot in July. read more
