The way it's constructed also allows you an unobstructed view of the priest wherever you're seated. However, the place can get packed during important dates such as Easter Sunday and Christmas which makes it harder to find seats, especially later in the day when most people go to church. It can also get really hot during the summer because the place is open and it can only hold so many electric fans. But what's a little heat when you're listening to the Word of God? Amen? Amen!

The nearest church to my house is St. Paul the Apostle Church. Although relatively small, its…read moreconvenient location makes it very efficient for us to hear mass. While the church is not air-conditioned, there are plenty of fans that keep the sacred venue well-ventilated. For someone who has been going to this church for years, here are some tips you would thank me for. One, park not too close yet not too far. Getting out after the service can be quite tricky because of the traffic build-up. Park right in front of Daisy or Mario's. Two, hear mass during late afternoon or night schedule to avoid the harsh heat. Three, sit near an electric fan. I'm sure this does not need any explanation. Four, opt to sit in plastic chairs right outside the church, you'll get more air there. Five, know that this used to be a popular disco venue. Just a nice conversation starter to know.

The shrine is a relatively small structure compared to other shrines. But I like the fact that the baptistry is separate from the main church and the room is sparsely decorated. If not for the baptismal font at the center, you'll have no idea that the area is reserved for the sacrament of baptism. The baptistry is also air-conditioned and it's a good thing because babies are less likely to feel uncomfortable during the ceremony. However, as to the size of the room, I feel that it can only accommodate one family at a time. The church itself is simple as well, except for the ornately decorated retablo or altar where the image of the Santo Niño is displayed. Since the ceiling is set high and it has metal grills instead of solid concrete walls, the church is well ventilated. It does not feel stuffy inside. The only problem about this church is the lack of parking space. If you live in the area, I suggest you just walk or ride a tricycle to the church because you will find it difficult to park your vehicle on the street.

They used the same holy bowl of water for both us, though the baptistery had been renovated. I think that was pretty meaningful. I remember Sacred Heart as an old church, pretty run down and dark. But when it became a shrine in the early 2000s, the parish got a makeover. It got airconditioning, landscaping, and all new interiors and lighting. What a breath of fresh air! Since then, there have been a number of weddings at Sacred Heart. Apparently it also has a crematorium on the property, which I only discovered after the renovation. It gets full on Sundays, naturally, when residents of Makati and Pasay come to celebrate mass with their families. (The Binays are often here too.) There's a children's mass at 430, a Filipino mass at 530, then 630 up to 830 the masses are in English. Come early if you want to take a seat. They open the baptistery for seating, too, but the aircon isn't too strong there. Sit at the very back of the main church if you want cool aircon. If it's not raining, they have outdoor seating as well.
