Meenakshi temple canteen…read more A great huge temple built as close to an authentic South Indian grand place of worship, as possible. The main deity, as the name suggests, is Devi Meenakshi. Avoid during special Indian days if you like to avoid crowds (like me), or, make sure to head to the temple on Indian festivals to be a witness to all the splendor of shiny clothes, funfare, prayers, activities and a carnival like busy but happy atmosphere. A must visit for any South Indian theist. Dressing modest is mandatory. Canteen. A good variety of simple yet tasty food. Everything goes towards temple proceedings after basic wages are paid. (A lot of ladies and gentlemen volunteer too.) There is limited dining area, but between indoor and outdoor, and the constant flow of devotees moving in and out, it gets managed pretty well. The food is prepared fresh which in itself is a crowd puller and we never come away without a box of lemon rice and curd rice as a to-go.

We worship at Sivakasi temple every Monday. Yesterday we took our milk and bananas offerings to the temple. The priest, Ganesh, knows us and expects us on Mondays. Sometimes, my wife's schedule does not let us go on Monday but when I can, I go the following day. One thing I must mention is that over the years my health has had me use a walking cane and stairs have become quite hard to climb. I use the little elevator if I can but sometimes request Ganesh to come to the car and take the offerings since the distance to the elevator from the parking lot becomes fatigue inducing. On those bad days, Ganesh helps out for which we are ever grateful.

There's so many beautiful Buddhist statues and even physical descriptions of the history of Buddhism translated in both English and Vietnamese. During mass for New Years, there were multiple performances from their Lion Dance team and local singers. We enjoyed our visit at this temple and would visit again whenever we're in the area.
