Beautiful park, I stayed here in a tent with my fiancée and our children, we took the kids to the restroom to get ready for bed around 8:45pm and when we got back to our tents the surrounding sprinklers were on and our entire campsite and tent was wet. Absolutely frustrating as could be of a situation and the park rangers and staff never once apologized. Not only did they not apologize but they also didn't compensate us whatsoever when a bunch of our belongings were destroyed due to their sprinkler system. Moral of the story is avoid staying here because the staff isn't considerate even when they ruin your trip. I have seen other reviews of this park that have experienced the same thing, again not sure why they have sprinklers running at 9pm inside your campsite. read more

Good spot to camp and for day use river access. We stopped by and grabbed a campsite for the night while passing through. It's one of the few parks along the Columbia that stays open year round. The individual spots are a nice size and pretty level. There were only a handful of spots taken that night, and all the others were staying along the water. We chose to stay by ourselves nearer the track side...although honestly the rail noise isn't bad at this park. The whole park is very well-maintained and clean. Gorgeous trees abound providing lots of shade throughout. There's a good amount of space to roam around, as well as other things available during peak season...a horseshoe court, fish cleaning station, and plenty of picnic tables. I'm allergic to burning wood so I don't get to stay at campgrounds often. Maryhill has a peaceful and idyllic location...wish they had a non-burning section so I could stay even when they are busy. read more

We stayed at the Peach Beach RV park next door to here. Got to walk through this wonderful place with our dogs. Very clean, shaded, with wonderful views of river. this is a great place to take the family for a day outing. You will get road noise because the interstate is right across the river, but we were still able to sleep fine. There are boat launches & wonderful RV spots. If you are here during fruit harvest time you MUST stop at Gunkle's fruit stand walking distance away. I included a pic of it too. This is one of the best state parks around. Maryhill State Park is just beautiful, with Oregon in the background, plenty of campgrounds and the Columbia River to swim in. We made a stop here on our road trip and wish we could've stayed longer. We were taking a road trip to southern Oregon, and Maryhill State Park was our first stop/break. We had a picnic lunch here on a Saturday and the state park was so pleasant to be at. There were campers around, and most people were swimming in the river. The setting is just picturesque, as you're right on the Washington-Oregon border on the Columbia River. There were plenty of places to picnic, which is primarily why we came here. Many picnic tables are provided and are spaced out, so though the place was busy, it didn't feel busy since everyone had their own space. Since this area is popular for swimmers, the bathrooms had showers to rinse off at and were very clean. They also had a spigot to get fresh, drinking water from. My time was too short here, but I'm glad we found this beautiful state park. It would be fun to camp here and spend more time, especially since it's located near the Maryhill Museum, Stonehenge and wineries. You can't beat that. read more

Maryhill State Park is the first park across the Oregon border near the Biggs Junction bridge. After driving through miles of Oregon desert farms, growing hay, or at least struggling to grow anything in the barren soil, Maryhill is a good place to stretch the legs and look at some green life. It was nice to see natural trees and grass growing that did not require an extensive watering effort. I'm sure the Maryhill trees did not suffer from thirst, with root systems sucking up water from the mighty Columbia River. Not included in the park but visible from the park border and more evident after gaining elevation on 97, are Washington orchards and vineyards. This was our first taste of Washington orchards and vineyards, which play a major role on the eastern side of the Cascades. Maryhill had a nice swim area that would be perfect for getting in some laps. Farther out on the Columbia River, it was hard to tell if the water was moving rapidly or if it was choppy because of the wind. One major drawback of the park is road noise, although that is to be expected from a park that is located a quick turnoff from the main road heading north and south. If it was farther away, it would certainly be more pleasant for camping but it probably wouldn't get as many day visitors, us included. read more

A nice little park. Well, not so little. A State Park pass, $30/yr will get you in. Lots of camping and RV hookups although we are not into that. We just like to have a picnic lunch with a view of the Columbia River. The place can get busy even in early Spring and is insanely crowded during the Summer. We stayed here for the first time this July (2012) in the RV section of the park. While there are a few first-come/first-serve spots, reservations are definitely recommended. The park was full the weekend we visited. We enjoyed the quiet, grassy setting with lots of trees. However, the picnic tables are permanently sited, and we were glad we brought our E-Z Up canopy to shade it during the midday. RVers will also enjoy the full hookups with sewers in each site. The website describes this well tended state park "Maryhill State Park is a 99-acre camping park with 4,700 feet of waterfront on the Columbia River in Klickitat County. The area is significant for its natural beauty, its access to the surrounding natural wonders and its cultural history. A full-scale model of Stonehenge stands near the park." There is a small boat dock and a roped-off swimming beach. The picnic area has a couple of windowed shelters that are sometimes needed as the area can get pretty windy. We saw lots of kiteboarders and windsurfers camping here, too. I also noticed folks with their fishing poles, and it seemed that the cleaning station was well used. One of the biggest cons of this campground is the noise. Highway 97 climbs a hill after the bridge over the Columbia and you can definitely hear traffic going up and down the grade--especially the semis with their jake brakes. Also two train tracks border the park and, believe me, they are well used! However, that being said, after we settled in and had our chairs set up facing the water--all that faded away. It took us a full day to finally get out and about to explore the area-we were sooo relaxed! In the area is Stonehenge replica, Maryhill Art Museum and the Maryhill Winery. We even cruised a little farther down the road to Columbia Hills State Park to see the Indian pictographs. We could only tour the grounds of the museum and winery as we had our dog with us and it was way too hot to leave her in a vehicle that day. However, overall we enjoyed ourselves and will be back in the future for another visit. read more

Maryhill SP is a very nice for camping and day use. We're staying here for a week and so far everything is perfect despite the train and semi noises from time to time (got use to it the second night). Park staff friendly, paved roads and graveled sites. Lots of grassy areas for animals and kids to play. Oh there is one thing this S.P. is laking is a play ground/play structure. Info: - It gets pretty windy here...don't bother with awnings/canopies (the warmer it gets the windier it gets) - $5 wood bundle - WiFi is touch and go...good luck - Not many bugs, just flies (spring/fall might be different) - Beach is very rocky, bring flip flops...cold water read more

For a state park it is about as good as you can get. It's right on the Columbia River and has river access. So when you're not hanging out at your campsite - you'll be down at the river!! The grounds were well maintained ... as was the bathrooms. 50 cent showers for 3 mins ... which is typical. The water was hot right out of the gate so there was NO time wasted waiting for it. Only one of the two shower stalls has a bench to place your shower amenities and dry clothing. Some of the campsites are configured weird ... like you have to walk through someone's camp to get to yours ... like 58 & 59 (check the map!!). If you don't reserve both of these - you'll regret having just the one. The upside to them both is there is a HUGE blackberry hedge which acts as a nice wind break. This park gets windy - and I do mean gale force winds. This was a challenge for all the tent campers - getting their tents up and not blowing away. LOL!!! Of the 3 days I was there ... 2 days were windy ... 1 of which was extreme wind ... and 1 day was a light breeze and hot! There are lots of trees so you can always find a shady spot if you need one. Tent plots are defined and covered in some sort of decomposed granite/gravel. Each site has an aluminum picnic table and a fire pit grill combo (it was smaller than a fire ring style I'm used to at California State Parks). My group and I stayed here because we were attending the Earth, Wind & Fire concert held at the Maryhill Winery. Most of the other campers were also their for the concert and they came from far and wide. This being said - it made for a very friendly atmosphere. Make reservations ... if you don't - you'll be greeted by their Campground FULL sign!! There is plenty to do in the area ... like visiting the Stonehenge WWI Memorial ... Maryhill Museum ... Maryhill Winery ... little fruit stand ... and just hanging out on the river. I'm a big fan of being a river rat!! I like trains - but WooHoo - there is a lot of train noise at night. As well as the semi-trucks which come down Hwy 97 with their full on jake brakes. Overall - I would stay here again!! read more

Large sites. Very clean and beautiful. Lots of trees and close to the Columbia river. Wineries close by along with that Stonehenge site. The drawbacks are that it sits close to a railroad track and those trains come through ALL the time. So prepare for that. Along with that, to get to campground, you come down a steep hill. It's a main thoroughfare for semi trucks. You hear them breaking all day and night. Its windy here but when it's hot there is no drawback to that. Really, the noise is all that's preventing a 5 star. It's a lot of noise. read more

We pulled in here just as the park employee who tended the office, toll station was leaving. The sign said that the RV campground was full. She came out and greeted us. We told her we just stopped for the restroom and to try to look at our map to figure out where were going next as it was 4:30 and needed to find a place to camp. She told us there had been some cancellations and gave us a map and list of open spots. We found one to our liking and pulled in. As we were setting up she stopped by and took our checkin / payment envelope. It was a great place to stay, but way too hot - 101 degrees. The minuses is it is close to the highway and train track which seems to have bothered some people. It didn't bother us, but would probably have been annoying had we been in a tent. read more

I'm torn between three and four stars. Three because I ended up camped in a site that had been given to somebody else. The office was closed and this was the early afternoon. Poor communication, but everything worked out. I think the staff needs to look at how to process campers when the office is closed. I could find no instructions, just a list of allegedly open sites and prices with no information about how to pay, at least that I could find, and I looked. Anyway, I got to keep the site and it was great. It was a pull through site with full hookups for $35. The site was plenty big enough and utilities were very easy to access. It was very pretty with green grass and trees. Although there was a notice stating the sprinklers came on at a certain time, they never came on during my stay there (one night). Trains? I've camped in places with train tracks less than a hundred feet away. Maryhill was nothing. Yes, I could hear the trains if I paid attention. I never heard whistles or horns. The road going up the hill was also quiet. I saw semis going up the hill but I never heard them. My dog went nuts over the squirrels. There are lots of squirrels. They didn't cause any problems for me. I like squirrels. There is a pebbly beach which I did not visit because dogs are not allowed. If you just want to dump your tanks without camping, it costs $5 and there is potable water. That's a bargain. I've been to Maryhill twice and I'll probably return. read more

There are sprinklers in the park that go off all through the night. We had to protect our stuff from the torrent of water that doused our campsite each evening. Only camp here if you sleep in a vehicle. The river is pretty cool with lots of smooth skipping rocks. read more

Lots of plusses: scenic, roomy, well-kept camp spots, convenient to wineries and Maryhill museum, war memorial/Stonehenge replica, fruit stands, U-pick grapes, and perfect spot for morning and evening photo safaris! A couple small minuses: located between two highways and two railroads, it is quite noisy, although our party was able to tune it out pretty well. Hard to find recycling facilities (only one, located in the group-camp), no firewood available when we were there in late September. One BIG minus: Washington State Parks have made the extensive green lawns a very high priority at this park. This means irrigating during peak outdoor time. At our $40 per night river-front spot, this was 7:00 pm til after 8:00 pm on a beautiful, 80 degree Sunday night. I am not talking a gentle sprinkling in the background but a completely flooded firepit and a heavy deluge inches from the picnic table (the only guaranteed dry spot during irrigation). There were signs everywhere warning about the complicated irrigation schedule and warning people to keep their board sails off the grass to prevent burning. But zero signs directing people to the hidden recycling center! Everyone we talked to complained, the ground everywhere was soggy, and our trailer was surrounded by a 4" deep moat while we were trying to pack up! read more

This place stinks. Dumpster is overflowing and it 85 degrees at 8:00 at night. The camp volunteer, Steve? informed us that we would get a ticket if we didn't move our pop-up camper rig. Weard group of trailer people that you only see when they "walk their dog" poop then back to the box. The good news is that there is plug in power so no generators running to hear. We cook and live outside the rig unless sleeping and really enjoyed the River and large trees. read more

It was February and we were able to just pull in and get a spot.... not a prime site closer to the water but still a nice pull thru site. Plenty of room..... nice and flat.... good facilities. We were able to have a nice campfire - in Feb that is a bonus! The campground is close to wineries and other sites to see such as Stonehenge. My only complaint is that the train goes by at all hours of the night...... if you are a light sleeper - pack earplugs! read more

This is an excellent park with lots of well maintained grass. It's clean and has a nice view of the river. Everything is in excellent shape and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The sites are large and spaced well enough apart that you don't have to get to know your neighbor if you don't want to. I definitely recommend this park. read more

Stayed here for two nights while in the area to do some stargazing. The campground seems well kept and quiet. It IS windy here because it's on the gorge. As other reviews have stated, it's also a bit noisy from traffic and trains. The trains go all night, so bring earplugs. The bathrooms seem to be kept clean and functional. The tent pads are gravel (and no tents allowed in the grass) so don't forget your air mattress because it's a long ways to go buy one. :-) read more

Stayed here with family and friends for two days. Enjoyed the location and the wide open space for my 18 month old Son to play. The location may be bothersome with those sensitive to noise, there are nearby Railroad tracks and Intersate 84 is across the river. Location is great, friendly park staff, and large campsites. Would highly recomend the area to anyone looking for a family friendly campground in the gorge. read more

Unequivocally the loudest campground I have ever been to and I've camped in almost every state in the country. We stopped here for the night while driving cross country. The park is skirted by train tracks with freight trains that run all day and night-the ground shakes under your tent. On the other side of that is a major highway with a steep grade and semis that sound like they're barreling out of hell. Occasionally a helicopter will fly over as well. The campsite allows dogs, which is great if you have one like us, but it's just another layer of noise. Be prepared to yell to be heard. The campground itself is pretty and clean, and right on the Columbia River. Ideal if you just drove for 9 hours as it is right beside the highway. Check out is at 1 pm- and trust me, you're going to need it to make up for all the sleep you lost. Charge $10 for these sites, not $25. read more

Nice halfway point on our family road trip to the coast. Large nicely mowed areas. And green lawn means sprinklers-make sure you don't put too much of your stuff outside before finding out what time the sprinklers go off. read more
