I had never seen this dessert wine before and then suddenly within the same month I've tried it twice. First at Manresa, then at Cyrus, two very fine dining establishments. Now this is a fortified grenache which takes some getting used to initially as it packs quite a punch. A dark plum/purple hue as it sits in the glass and as you sip it, it has a thick/sweet/herb/smoke flavor to it. Very complex as wine goes and I'm not sure how I'd exactly pair it, but it's interesting enough to go on it's own. The price tag maybe a hinderance to some but it's definitely worth trying if you're into non traditional wines out there. 4.25 stars read more
