The decor is very farm-to-table, and the restaurant is on a literal farm near the border of Leiden and Zoeterwoude. There's a place for kids to play outside, and the property is surrounded by serene bike paths that abut farmland. Granted, neither am I when I am in a new country and not speaking the native tongue, but usually at least bartenders start chatting with me. Last night, all that changed! I made new friends and the bartenders were great. They had a nice selection of wines and patiently poured me a few samples before picking the one I preferred. They kept the drinks coming quickly. They also have bar snacks including hard boiled eggs, apparently quite popular with the Dutch! This was definitely a local spot and I'm told that Meent is a really up and coming area.
