Some of the tables have uneven legs, some of the chairs are looking a little threadbare, so in order to make this place special, the food would have to be spectacular. It isnt, of course. Its ok, but no better than that - there are a couple of much better Indian places close by. In defence of the Royal Tandoori, its reasonably priced - you can have three courses for less than £18, and its always pretty lively in there when its busy. Its a shame the food is just a slightly better standard than your average takeaway food. The staff are friendly and efficient, and it never takes long to get your food, its all just a little basic. Fine if you just want a quick meal, but of you're looking for somewhere to go as a treat, this isnt a place I'd consider using. They also do a takeaway service (non delivery) and this is what they're a little better suited to. On the whole, its ok. No more, no less.

We had three rice between four of us and that was too much. We tried coconut, tomato and pilau rice. All fantastic. Bombay potato was simply sublime. Let down a bit with dirty tablecloth and grease smeared menus and a young drinks waiter who didn't listen properly. But these are small points and are no detraction to an excellent meal. Would highly recommend the mixed kebab starter, and the chicken tikka, tarka daal and lamb bhuna mains for the desi/Asian customers as they're at just the right spice levels. However they did cater to multiple locals and adjusted the spice levels accordingly (as per our conversation with our neighbouring couple at the table). Hats off to the chef Mr Saiful for his fabulous culinary skills. No wonder this place won best chef's award twice. We were thrilled to find that out later. Well deserved. The maitre'd Mr J / Javed was extremely caring and polite towards us, and guided us through the menu to make the right decisions. He knows his job very well! Good man and provided quick service. It's homestyle Indian food and it's rich and spicy. The samosas are made fresh and are really delicious, if you are into seekh kebabs, they make a mean meat stick. The butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, nauratan korma, saag paneer and vindaloo are all excellent. The caveat on the vegetarian biryani is that it's just frozen veggies thrown in with the rice, avoid these limp veggies and just get the rice pulau. Service is very good, and you can't beat the price, for two people it's usually around $12 each, and with a group, you can get a great meal for around $8. Take-out is very thorough, they pack everything nicely. Head on out there and have some good, homey Indian food. Note: Do not sit on the right side of the restaurant on a sunny day. It's more of a greenhouse than a solarium.

Noticed a few unusual items on the menu such as pheasant and venison and a lot of fish. Ordered from the set menu of three course for 9.95. First course is poppadoms and the pickle tray. Second was a choice from about 8 starters. I had chicken wings. Three of them. Not bad but nothing special. Mate had sheesh kebab. Two spicy sausages of lamb. These were very tasty and moist. Best part of the meal. Mains were Afghan lamb in a brown sauce and a chicken in a red sauce called Punjabi taste, promised green chillies but I had none.. Both meats were cooked but both sauces were bland and virtually tasteless. They came with a choice of four rice or four bread. We had one pilau and one garlic naan. We had a reasonable bottle of Malbec for 15 pound with it. Service was friendly and efficient. Open kitchen at back so you can see them cooking whilst you are waiting outside the only toilet. I am pretty sure our mains were bland because we ordered from the set menu. I will go again and will opt for one of the game or fish dishes. They have a website with the menu on and I suggest looking at that before you go. Although I have called it a standard curry I am pretty sure that is down to what we ordered.
