Imagine my surprise when I come look at this and the owner has tried to hide his business on Yelp by saying it is a pizza business in Chester Ct, complete with fake phone number. I'm amazed at the lengths this guy will go to. ********************************** Here's it is a year later and I'm still living with the consequences of this contractor. One of my towel bars ripped right out of the wall. Apparently it was not installed to bear the weight of 2 towels. But that is just a minor inconvenience. You can always leave your towel on the floor when you shower. The big issue - I'm dealing with a growing water spot on my kitchen ceiling. Right under the plumbing stack - which was relocated and replaced. My reputable carpenter has quoted me $1,000 to rip out the kitchen ceiling then replace and repaint after. My reputable plumber can't give me a quote until the ceiling is removed and he can begin to look at what the problem is. I thought my nightmare was over when Bathrooms by Design walked off the job. read more

Unlike others here, I had a good experience with the Bathrooms by Design team. We had two bathrooms completely redone, one was a bath to shower conversion, with new floor and wall tile. New vanities, sinks, and toilets installed. The on-site team always wore masks during the project, and left the area clean after each day's work. No project like this is without issues, especially as the contractor can't know what will be found underneath the old work. We had some disagreements over certain things, but Jim and his crew made it right in the end. We all even learned some things. Regardless, it's always a good idea to check all work after each day. The team always wore masks during the project. Jim went out of his way to accommodate our requests, and we were quite pleased with the work schedule. Jim always made sure to phone us at the end of each work day to explain what will be next. One bit of constructive criticism for the team is to make sure to check and double check the plumbing connections. read more

Incredible experience. Bathrooms by design remodeled two bathrooms and planned their work flow so perfectly we experienced zero inconveniences. Complete replacement of plumbing fixtures and coordinated with vanity tops replacement our bathrooms were out of commission only 3 days. I wish I could give them a score twice as high. I hired this company to redo my bathroom and put in a new shower for my son who became very ill recently and is now handicapped. I explained my son was getting out of the hospital and was wheelchair bound and couldn't go up the stairs to the second floor of my house to use the shower. They acknowledged this and agreed to get the work down by a specified date. They asked for $5900 up front which I reluctantly provided. They came for one day and then they claimed their plumber got sick and went to the hospital and then they didn't show up for a week. In the mean time they were doing another job with my $5900 which is what all these contractors do. If you google contractor scam this is one of the first things that comes up. They gave me a deadline of about 3 weeks to finish the job but four days before the deadline they had only come to work on my job four times and hadn't even finish most of the work. During this time they tried to get me to pay them thousands of dollars more than the amount we had agreed upon for various items which they hadn't accounted for, and these were not stated in my contract. Towards the end they tried to get me to pay an $3k which was stated in my contract, but when I asked if they were going to finish the job on the agreed upon date they said that there was no way to do that in 4 days. I did not pay the $3k for this reason and they left and have never come back besides the owner of the company showing up and trying to get me to pay the additional money. They did not provide $5900 of work in the 4 days that they came to my house. They were several hours late, almost every single day and did not call to let me know they would be late. It's been 6 weeks and my handicapped son has no shower to use. This company is very bad and dishonest and I suggest to stay far away from them unless you want to end up getting ripped off. This was the worst contracting experience I have had to date. Jim, the owner, is a very nice man but his sub contractors for tile are the worst, and his ability to truly fix issues is unacceptable as well. I had a very small job. I only needed a shower stall taken out (fiberglass) and a new tile shower installed. The first team did a horrendous job. It was a two-man team (names I have forgotten) and they told me they were experts. They didn't measure/cut the tile correctly so they left an inch lip at the wall. Can you imagine the tile wasn't flush with the wall? And then the back wall that they tiled was not flush/flat. They didn't bother to make sure the wall was properly supported so the tile was put in warped. When I saw the mess, Jim said he would rip it out and do it again. The second tile person from Worcester seemed nice and told me he is a perfectionist. He finishes, and the base of the shower was not sealed properly so the bathroom started leaking water into my down stairs dining room. When I repeatedly contacted the tile person, he never responded with a date to fix it, and then it took Jim another 3 months to arrive with a solution. He sends a helper to fix the seal. The young helper was again very nice, but totally inappropriate. He used a cocking/sealer, and then I reminded him I have a water stain on the ceiling in my dining room. I told him I was not convinced this was the fix--meaning the sealer/cocking may not fix the leak to my dining room. He proceeded to SPRAY Kilz to the ceiling stain! Can you imagine SPRAYING paint with a dining room table and hard wood floors present? I went to get a can of kilz and a paint brush and he painted on the kilz. So, here we are a year later. (This job started in November of 2014, the shower was completed in December, and I sent an email the day after it was completed on Xmas eve 2014 to log the problems.) The young man with the kilz came in mid may 2015. NOW I have the same leak from the base of the shower stall, May of 2016. This entire issue is Bathroom By design's mess, and now I have to get another contractor to rip this out and fix the leak, Bathroom by design is not even adequate for commercial use, and definitely not for homes. In addition to the bathroom issues, when pounding 2 by 4s in the bathroom space to fix the wall, they knocked a hole through my wall into my bedroom and never fixed it. I will say that the vendor who installed the glass door was great. Wayside Glass. This experience has been horrible. I would never recommend this company. NEVER. read more
