Tom made an extremely fast turn around for a survey needed for a permit. It was a pleasure to work with him.

We expect the ownership of properties adjacent to us to change in the near future, and we determined that it was critical to know where the boundaries are. Hawthorne Land Surveying Services put these questions to bed. Chad was always professional, personable, respectful and easy to work with. After discussing the workscope of the project, he required very little direction for moving forward. His prices were very reasonable. Chad was always prompt in his communications. He informed us when he would visit or if he needed to reschedule. He kept us up to date on the progress of the project and was amenable to changing the workscope as needed. Chad would readily answer any questions. He explained basic surveying information to us patiently and in detail (it was admittedly a surprising pleasure to learn and appreciate a part of the world that always been there in front of us, but that we did not see or understand). We also appreciated his honesty. If he definitively knew the answer to a question, he stated it. If there was ambiguity, he laid out the options. Perhaps above all else, I felt like he took the time for us to understand and appreciate what we were paying for and what the other options were. He was clearly looking out for our best interest. In our final meeting, he walked the entire property with us and made sure we understood where the stakes were (lots of thickets in the wetlands) and how they were notated. We highly recommend Hawthorne and will use him again if we ever need those services.

If it wasn't for Chads plans he provided us and the different options we were allowed to offer the city, we would have been paying thousands of more dollars!! He's very personable, respectful, and most of trustworthy he's looking out for your best interest! He went above and beyond our expectations with our Land Survey Plans for a process that me and my wife took us 7 months to solve. He's an awesome guy and his prices are very reasonable in the industry and worth the extra wait if needed! He's also very prompt and need very little direction, he's a professional. We will use him again for sure on our the next house we are buying and tell all our friends!

After a long and frustrating couple of years where two (2) engineers/engineering firms ditched…read moreme/in rebuilding our seawall because it was too small and/or they bailed for other/larger/costly projects, I found by chance Hancock Assocs. At first things went well. They confirmed they would handle licensing/permitting and get me a structural engineering firm for the seawall design/eventual construction supervision, which they did bringing in Collins Engineering, a national firm from Chicago, IL with a NE office in Portsmouth NH. Quickly there was an initial site visit, Hancock did they own surveying and things went along fine. We ran into bumps first presenting out my local town Conservation Commission (ConCom), my engineer/now project manager--she assured me the engineer from Collins did not have to attend/she had all the info. She did okay, but there was trouble/they did not pass us. We did the supplement as the ConCom required, more fees to Hancock and stress with a significant delay. Once the ConCom passed us we moved onto filing the the Chap. 91 application with the Mass DEP and we had a conference call with four(4) state agencies and the Army Core of Engineers/ACE/the feds. I was a little shocked w/ the Hancock Engineer/project manager, how she came out of the gate/handled the call and was really relieved my structural engineer from Collins was the voice of reason. Jan 2018, I got significant/delay/bad news from DEP--and my Hancock Engineer told me she had never happened this happened to her before. It got resolved but they missed another DEP deadline on submitting the public notice, and so I had to pay a higher fee to do the legal advertisement in the Boston Herald, which would have been a lot more affordable/logical to run in my local newspaper. Also I'm pretty unhappy because: 1) now I'm mostly outsourced to her assistant who sends me vague unhelpful email answers/he gets to bill me for, 2) they dropped the ball on filing my ACE application. We knew back at the end of Dec. 2017 what ACE had deemed the appropriate permit they would require. And we did not file until March 2018, only because I asked/and pushed, and there was no explanation about this delay, only a vague white-washed answer, but of course I got billed for asking/those client email communications, etc. Yes, the fees are high, and to be fair, they all are in line with the estimate the GZA engineer that bailed on me/gave me on his site visit. Hancock Assocs. are okay but not stellar. As a client, I feel they have failed to understand the emergency of our situation and they have failed to expedite my filings as needed, and they messed up my timeline with the late ACE filing which is really unacceptable, but I just want to move forward and finish up their contract and get the seawall built. To note, I've been a good client and paid all invoices on time, I did not want to slow work or the timeline because of non-payment. So this is why I'm pretty upset and disappointed and at this time generally would NOT recommend them.
