Emmen must have the largest concentration of Italian restaurants in the country! After spending an…read moreentirely amazing rainy evening at WildLands we were ready for a good meal. After a bit of exploring the area and finding at least 3 more Italian restaurants, we decided to get a table at Da Paolo. Let me begin by saying that it is FANCY. The staff was impeccably dressed and the interior was classy. They even hang your coats for you. The kitchen is visible from the entrance to help lure you in. Once inside, the table was big and chairs comfortable. I noticed that almost everyone besides me was dressed formal (well, I did spend my evening at a zoo!). Since I was carrying two large bottles of water for the hotel room later, the wait staff thought that I had brought my own water with me to save money and asked me to order water. Kind of presumptuous but still not bad enough to knock off a star from the rating. I mean this is Netherlands, people are direct (rude). The menu doesn't have a bunch of vegetarian options but if you settle for pizza they are able to make it just the way you want it. I went with the regular tomato sauce pasta with mushrooms and some zucchini. V had a pizza with some veggies. They also served some bread to nibble on as we waited for our food to arrive. The house red wine was nothing spectacular but good nonetheless. For dessert, we shared a tiramisu. I followed up with a double espresso to help me muster strength for the walk back in storm winds and rain. All in all, 4 stars for a metropolis like Amsterdam but deserving 5 for a small town like Emmen. I was expecting to eat at a snack bar past 6PM.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY OR ARE VEGAN…read more The "vegan pizza" is not vegan at all. I ordered a pizza with vegan cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce. The lettuce was not included, the pizza arrived cold, and worst of all: the cheese turned out to be regular cheese made out of milk. At first I found the taste weird, but since I never eat cheese myself (because of the obvious consequences that has), I didn't recognize it as actual cheese, just a special kind of vegan cheese I've never had before or something. I have a bad case of lactose intolerance as well as a milder milk proteïn allergy; not enough to hospitalize me, but definitely enough to render me completely useless and in pain for the following 24 hours. I had even included a note about the allergy, left my phone number and email address, but I never got contacted about it not being safe for me to eat. Needless to say, don't expect me to ever return to this restaurant.

A fun theme restaurant with not only great food, but also excellent service…read more We (my parents, brothers and niece and nephew so a group of 8) went to Robin Hood as a surprise for my parents 45th wedding anniversary. As you can imagine arranging a surprise for a group is Always a challenge. Before our visit to the restaurant I had called the restaurant and explained that I wanted to do something special for my parents anniversary. The lady on the Phone told me this was no problem and she gave me several suggestions on what could be done and generally satisfies groups. So we agreed on having a la carte meals (as this was a lot cheaper than a set menu for 8) and a special desert. To my surprise when we arrived at the restaurant all waiters knew exactly why we were there and what we were celebrating so my parents got the special treatment, including their robin hood hats (which they proudly weared all night). Now I say to my surprise cause I had made the reservation a month before and had no time to follow up closer to the date since I was abroad. So this means they really noted down the info I gave them and made sure they remembered on the day. This is what I call great customer service! Another fun aspect of this restaurant is that everything is in the Robin Hood theme: - the waiters clothing - the way the waiters greet you and take your orders - the menu - Activities (you can also book a day trip and do like crossbow shooting ect.) Like I said the food was amazing! I had a lovely salmon with feggies, the extra's such as fries, potatoes, salad you can just keep ordering. The waiters are great! They understand service. They come to the table to check everything every so often, take the time to take some pictures. And the special desert was a Ice cake with fresh fruits, chocolate sprinkles, cream, nuts, cookies and fireworks. So beautifu and delicious! And the very best part...........Price quality............Very cheap for what you get.
As a Californian, all-you-can-eat Restaurants are widespread. In our home city, there is even a…read moreplace called 100s All-you-can-eat Buffet. That buffet is solid with such a wide variety of items. Yet, in terms of selection of services available and the quality of food and how is marinated, this place supersedes it. We are comparing a restaurant that has to survive in a 70k town vs 1 million person city! For reference, I tried their sushi bar, their general Mongolian Wok station (mostly veggies with a bit of meat), and their seafood/meat-focussed grill station. Everything was very good. The Dutch friendliness of all the staff - the receptionist, the table runners, the cooks at the wok/grill stations. The laid back, professional and clean ambience of the restaurant in such a surprising place gives this place high markings- 5 stars!
