My review is based upon the service and experience I have received here. To try to put it shortly, I am most concerned with their cancellation process. I canceled my subscription in January due to not having time to come in the salon anymore. They stated I had to cancel in person, so I completed the cancelation with the front desk person. They told me I was good to go and would not be charged again. I could use my remaining one credit at another date. No further action required by me. Great. Fast forward to May 1st, I notice I have been charged $140 each month since January from MassageLuxe! I draft an email, send it to my local store, and call the center the following day. They state they will forward the request to regional manager. The regional manager calls me later that day and says they have no record of my cancellation. How convenient. Turns out they do not send receipts for cancellations. Ah ha! The regional manager says she can understand how I may think this is tedious but they need records of me cancelling, it's just business. Excuse me, well why maintain the record if you can just continue to charge me right? She stated "I signed a business agreement that states that I would cancel in writing". Why did the location tell me to cancel in person? I did that already! This is completely unfair. I then ask to speak to her manager. They do not give out their number she states, but would email on my behalf and follow up perhaps Monday. I'll update if they do so. Side note, when I had a membership the massages always started late, which caused the service to be shorter. I would wait in the waiting room sometimes 10-15 minutes after my massage start time. I had a gift card my mom gave me before Covid happened, so I finally went up there to see if it was still good (good news: it was!). I went for my massage on a Sunday afternoon, and honestly, my expectations were low- I've had a couple massages (a while ago) that weren't the best and from the reviews on here, it looks a little rough. My appointment was with Ashia, and from the moment she pushed on my back, my body felt pressure relief. It was amazing. I ended up getting their monthly membership, and I'm excited to get these monthly! I recommend giving them a go- it was a relaxing experience, and they do offer some good deals, although the front desk does seem a bit "sales-driven," which isn't the best thing. We arrived and filled out our information on the iPad, this referring to what you like and don't like and what areas of any that you don't want addressed during the massage! We were taken ti the waiting area where they have hit tea and cold water bottles in the refrigerator, we waited for a short amount of time then our masseuses came to get us and wish us away to our massage room where we were instructed to get undressed based on our comfort levels! My massage went great with my masseuse, she was very quiet and didn't ask me about the massage level like my wife's masseuse did so that's why I took off one star! But I must say she had some of of softest hands ( I'm sorry I don't remember her name) I ever experienced ( other than my wife's of course )! ;-) during a massage at a parlor! So with that being said I decided to add that star back on! I would definitely recommend this establishment if you're ever in a need of massage!. read more

PLEASE READ THE WHOLE REVIEW: First I am writing from a second person perspective because my wife is the one that get massages. With that being said she is NOT new to massages by any means. It is her birthday gift and this particular massage spa was a first time visit for her. Having had massages from luxurious spas all over the United States and abroad, her expectations were of a similar service, which seemed reasonable since "LUX" is in the name. Now the Mrs opted for the 90 minute deep tissue-massage that any other day would be valued at $180 (which she expected to pay)but because this was her first time here, it only cost $85. (Hmmmm). They email a pre check-in survey about an hour before your appointment. When she arrived, the person at the front desk barely greeted her, just asked her name and told her to wait in the waiting area for her masseuse. Her appointment was at 10a, she arrived at 9:45, the masseuse half- heartedly greeted her at about 5 after. He did not bother to introduce himself and walked far ahead of her to the massage room. The massage room was unusually cold. Still, without any formal introduction, the masseuse presented her with a list to upsell additional services. He suggested an add-on that included a treatment to help relax muscle tension (my wife was experiencing neck/shoulder/blade tightness and pain). She agreed to add this service for an additional $10.00. He then left the room so that she could undress. Now to the massage itself. I am not a certified masseuse, but even I know that you do NOT put cold hands or cold lotions or oils on a client! The "soothing" muscle relaxing product that they used smelled like Bengay...straight out of CVS and the obnoxious smell permeated the entire room! Even worse than the smell was the sloppy application of the product! She said there was excess oil dripping everywhere, so much so that she had to towel off before she could even get dressed after the massage was over! Speaking of the massage being over, in most cases, the masseuse will say something along the lines of "Okay, Mrs/Mr So and So, this completes your service, how do you feel...." Well, not here. Apparently, a simple "You're done" is the standard here, as they drop a hot towel on your neck, tell you that you can get dressed and walk out the room. She did admit that she was thankful for the towel because she needed it to wipe all the oil and creams glistened on her body. Once dressed, the masseuse is usually waiting patiently outside with a bottle of water, some instructions...maybe even some feedback about the tension or knots they discovered during the service (usually in hopes that you'll come back for further sessions) Again, nope. As the mystery masseuse is walking off, he mumbled something about water somewhere in the front. For those of you reading this and think that I may be exaggerating my wife's experience, please understand that we always give credit (and grace) wherever and to whom it's due, but the service was subpar. My wife did say that the massage was "okay" but she definitely had better experiences. Now let's get checked out, shall we? (this was the icing on the cake for my wife). She gets to the front desk to check out. The young lady, of course, tried to upsell other services and membership to which my wife politely declines. The young lady tells my wife that her total is $95. She then asks my wife if she wants to leave a tip for Jajuan( this is the first time she's learning this dudes name, by the way). Despite the mediocre experience, my wife tells the lady to add a 20% tip. Now I'm no mathematician, but 20% of $95 = $19....The young lady then tells my wife that the total with tip is $131. Wait what? She goes on to explain that the tip is calculated based on the regular price of the service....$180!!! ***WTDT*** She then points to a card on the counter that listed "suggested" tip amounts. Well, my wife being a prudent business professional kindly reminded her that (1)tips are discretionary and not mandated, and (2) their "bait and switch" tactics are misleading when you quote the price, then try to calculate the tip based on another price without letting the customer know. My wife definitely caught the lady off guard. After she made the adjustment, she had the audacity to try to sell a membership package... My wife doesn't curse, but let's just say it was a hard "L" NO! Needless to say we will not be returning here for any services again. This business really needs to work on customer service and that's sad for me to say when you are in a customer dedicated business. WOW! Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. I just moved to va and was looking for a place to get a massage and tried this place out for the first time. I scheduled a 60 minute session and got there about 30 minutes early (5:30 for a 6pm appointment). Wasn't called into the room until about 6:10 and then didn't start the massage until about 6:20. In reality I paid 90 dollars for 40 minutes. Wasn't nearly worth the price. The therapist was coughing and sniffling throughout the entire session, no mask, if I don't get sick it will be a miracle. I've gotten massages all over the place and feel as if I'm pretty experienced but it felt like she was almost guessing the locations on where to massage and there was very little technique involved. If I wanted someone to just rub my body for 40 min straight I wouldn't have paid almost 100 dollars. Lastly when she flipped me over on my back, her breath was really, really foul and I was just thinking about leaving for the last 10 minutes. Overall pretty bad experience for a first time user. Definitely recommend going elsewhere! The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the front desk staff was kind and welcoming. read more

I've been a member at massage luxe for almost 5 years. I go to other local locations, as well as use my hours in other states when I'm on vacation. This Harbourview location is my home hub, as it is closest to my home. It's the worst location in my opinion. I got a massage yesterday from Brock. It was terrible. It was like he was racing himself, I asked him may he slow down twice. I had to ask him not to pinch together my neck twice. I also asked him to avoid an area an certain area due to a surgery, he firmly pressed the area 20 mins after, I tensed up and reminded him and he did it again a few moments later. He also massaged my feet my firmly pressing them and shaking them from side to side briskly. He seemed annoyed when I asked him to slow down in the beginning. Even though was very careful and respectful when I asked for the adjustment. He went from vigorous massaging to an abrupt stop, asked how was it, I said thank you and he walked out. I've never had a massage end so abruptly and rudely. I almost asked him to stop during the massage. However, I ultimately decided I would never comeback. Dennis gives a GREAT massage. He is nice for the most part...however his "I don't see color" comment ruined the experience. Lara is the best one of the four massage therapists I tried. She uses an elbow technique that really work the muscles and with just the right amount of pressure. Not sure why this place has such bad reviews. I've been getting massages for 10 yrs. I hadn't had one in 2 years due to the pandemic, but needed one badly, so I went. First, it's incredibly clean. Second, they are taking ALL COVID precautions even when the state has relaxed masks. I'm fully vaccinated but it made me feel extra safe that all staff and guests were required to wear masks. Third, the masseuse was amazing!!!! She was kind, welcoming and her deep tissue technique was great. I've been to pricey places and she could compete with some of the best. She asked me periodically how I felt and when I told her that I need more pressure, she delivered and with a pleasant attitude. I don't have a single complaint. While my husband was deployed, I started going to massage luxe once a month for a 60 minute deep tissue massage. I find the ambiance very relaxing as you sit in the waiting room out back. The music, the scent, the lighting--just makes me feel calm. They always offer tea and water as you wait but I decline. Who wants to get up pee halfway through a massage? I always enjoyed my massages. Some staff were friendlier than others, but overall I was always happy with my service. I sat in the waiting room for over an hour and no one ever came to give me a massage. It was the worst experience of my life. My husband called a month ahead and scheduled an appointment for me to get a massage on our anniversary. I arrived early, and was signed in at the front desk by a really nice receptionist. After verifying my appointment, she walked me to the waiting room in the back. She said someone would come get me when it was time for my massage. 30 minutes passed and no one ever came. Since it was my first time at Massage Luxe, I thought that maybe they were behind on their appointments. I went to the front desk and asked was it okay for me to drink the bottled water. She said sure, and then I went back in the waiting room and proceeded to wait another 30 minutes. After an hour or so, I went back to the front desk and asked was my massage therapist running late. By this time there were three people working at the front counter. One of them checked my reservation, and said that my massage therapist was out on medical leave. Not only did they schedule me an appointment with a massage therapist that was not working that day, they then asked me to wait while they called his cell phone to see if he wanted to come into work. They told me that no one else could do my massage because they were booked for the day. I was offered the option to make an appointment for a free massage at a later date, but I would not go back to this place if they paid me. The sad part is that the therapists at Massage Luxe might actually be talented, but the fact remains that the receptionist knew I was sitting in that waiting room and never bothered to check on me. I don't know where to start with this place. I've been now 4 times. The first time was a couple years ago for a prenatal massage. When I walked in the staff was lingering around the front and not welcoming at all. The massage that day was okay. Then I recently got a groupon for a facial & half hour of the hydroluxe water bed to give it one last chance. I went in to do the hydroluxe bed first and was then told the bed was down and I'd have to do that another time. O...k...,wish you would have told me that when you called THAT DAY to reschedule my facial to another time so I wouldn't have left so early. Whatevs. The worker who gave me my facial was nice enough I suppose but there's a consistent theme with the people who work here: fake and unprofessional. During the entire facial, she didn't explain what she was doing, what products she was using, or ask me how I was doing/if I needed anything. I had to ask to adjust the bed and turn the heat off. Plus, most facials do extractions as well as extras like hand or foot massages. NOTHING. This facial was the equivalent of my Sunday afternoon facial of washing my face and putting on a masque from walgreens. There was nothing special about it and ZERO effectiveness. Finally, during the ENTIRE facial, I heard the gossip and laughing going on in the break room: "She has 2 kids, he has 4 so you KNOW she's in trouble". I mean it was so loud, it even drowned out that nice zen music they have playing in the place. Just SO UNPROFESSIONAL. And even though my groupon was for 30 minutes of hydroluxe, they made me divide it up into 2 separate visits. Very inconvenient and misleading. One of the ladies told me I could just go back to back and do 2 sessions, another told me I couldn't. When I came in the 3rd and 4th time to use the bed, each time there was a problem and error message with the bed, which by the way, isn't all that effective of a massage to begin with. It's kind of like a placebo effect: if you're laying there for 15 minutes with your eyes closed, anything can seem relaxing. Overall, my problem with this place are the employees. It doesn't seem like much thought is made into hiring genuine employees with real experience in the day spa industry. And the most annoying part is that they're all fake, insincere smiles and all. I'll never come here again. The owner needs to tighten the reigns, hire more experienced/genuine employees, and work on enforcing rules with the staff. read more

You're supposed to arrive 15 minutes early...because they give you a questionnaire, about your problem areas, allergies, medications, emergency contact, and areas you don't want massaged. But this is all for show. They don't care! You give the form to your massage therapist who glances at it and then does whatever. You don't want your face touched? TOO BAD! They're massaging your face! Problem with that shoulder blade from a car accident? Psh! They'll rub it til it's irritated. Sensitive to scented oils? They. Do. Not. Care. But it's not all awkward and disrespectful. It's nice inside. We got a couples massage and mine was better than theirs...at the end. That's where my massage therapist won. Hot, moist cloths to clean off the pungent oil. The other massage therapist was relatively despondent and didn't offer to turn on the heated table or give a towel/cloth. Maybe that's not what they do. However, it's a nice gesture. When you leave, the front desk pitches a membership. They're not pushy, so that's cool. I wouldn't join, though. I went here for a 60 minute massage and 15 minutes in the HyrdaLuXe thanks to a sweet deal I got on Groupon. I thought the ambiance of this place was really nice. Very friendly staff. The HydraLuXe was very cool. It was like a large water bed that did a massage with different settings. It was very relaxing and a good starter for my massage. My massage itself was also great. My massage therapist was Rebecca, and I have to say, some of the best service ever. She was really knowledgeable about my various issues with my shoulder and sciatic nerve. She noticed how bad my shoulder injury had gotten and recommended I go see a doctor. I am glad she noticed because I probably would have toughed it out til permanent damage was done. Something nice that she did was put a little essential oil on a tissue and put it in the fold of the blanket on the table. Gave it a little aromatherapy touch, which I loved. Massage LuXe is a chain, so they are always trying to sell memberships. Good deal if you're a frequenter. They don't offer a huge variety of services, though they do facials and waxing as well. Had a Groupon for this place and I wasnt impressed. Ambiance was fine and I didnt have the hydroluxe table, but my wife loves it. I think I didnt like it because of the therapist. She was overweight and it creeped my out that all I could feel on my back was the fat under her arms rubbing on me. For the price, I was expecting better. I typically go to the Fuller School of Massage therapy out at the Beach. They are cheaper and the students are good. My only problem is that they are an hour away. I visited today as first time visitor so the cost was greatly reduced. When I called in advance I spoke to Brook who was very knowledgeable and pleasant. She was not at the desk when I arrived but was when I left and even though I declined her membership offer she was still pleasant and professional. As noted the actual massage was for 50 minutes which was ok since I knew this in advance. Tabatha (sp?) did a very though job and worked more on my back as requested. She kept the pressure light to medium as requested. She also did not talk much at all which was nice. All in all the massage was one of the better ones I have received. Not the best but pretty darn good. The bad was that I really don't care much for the corporate touch when it comes to something like a massage. I do not go for a massage that often so a membership wouldn't do me much good. I also do not like the piped in music. I know it's supposed to be relaxing but for me it's the opposite. I told the therapist I did not care for it but I guess it's an "always on" sort of thing. I probably will not go again because outside of the membership the rates are 20-30% higher than my normal therapist who gives you an hour and is one of the best I have had work on me. So, this was an experiment for me. It did not cost me that much but the outcome was probably what I would expect from a chain. Three stars just about sums it up. I am a new member and will see how this goes. I guess I don't expect to get the best massage of my life, therefore so far my expectations are being met. I think the monthly fee is a bit high but I am paying for convenience to a large extent. I've been told the hours bank and you don't lose them and that I can cancel at any time. I have found most of the therapists to be young in their career, but responsive to what you specify as your needs. I have not found one yet that possess that truly instinctive quality but I'm sure that comes with extensive experience. If you go on a Groupon, expect the pressure sale as you check out after your massage now that you are relaxed and fuzzy. I've been a member of Massage Envy in the past, but switched to Massage Luxe about 6 months ago to try it out. In the beginning there wasn't much of a difference to me between Massage Envy and Massage Luxe, but I thoroughly enjoyed both- great, professional and knowledgeable masseuses, tranquil and comfortable setting, etc. However, last time I got Thomas as my deep tissue masseuse and it was the best massage I've ever gotten!! He's super knowledgeable on the human body and muscular structure and I felt like a million bucks after the massage! Took my boyfriend here for a couples massage. When I initially called, I had asked for pricing for a couples massage and was quoted $50. The person who answered did not say $50 per person nor did she state anything about any additional charges for having a "couples room". (I had assumed it wouldn't be $50 for both of us regardless). We arrived 10 minutes early to fill out paperwork, checked that we both wanted Swedish massages, and proceeded to go back. I had a masseur (male masseuse). He wasn't terrible although his hygiene was questionable. The massage went okay until he got up to the top of my head where he was breathing down onto the front of my face with what smelled like he just went on a smoke break right before my massage. It was not pleasant at all, especially considering that I am a non-smoker so that smell is extra strong to me. My boyfriend's masseuse was a female and she must have taken his request of a more firm Swedish massage to be "deep tissue" because she was pressing so hard that he was making noises in pain and she just continued along with telling him and I quote "I'm almost done". Taking no regard to how the massage felt to him or asking him if he would like her to decrease some of her pressure. Let's just say, we walked out of there with more pain and stress then we went in with except a $150 lighter. I am very disappointed and not quite sure if I will ever return because this was one of the more expensive massages I've had and definitely by far the worst. read more

I am extremely disappointed with this establishment. I came in 2/14/2018 to schedule a couple's massage and facial for Saturday 2/17. I was told the woman who did facials was overbooked so how about Sunday at 6pm, facial at 5pm? I said sure no problem. Today 2/16 I received a call at 4pm where they told me just my massage was scheduled for 2/17, no facial and no hubby included. So, because she was too busy playing with her insulin device she never canceled the appointment for Saturday and completely neglected to book the couple's massage I specially asked for in the first place. I have been a member for approx 2 years. I have no problems with the massage itself. They have been great. The front desk and management is horrible. They made a mistake when charging my card for the gratuity, and charged someone else's card who disputed the charge. Now they refuse to even allow me to book a massage saying I disputed the charge when it was clearly their fault. They even admitted it was their error. If I could give this place zero stars I would. My friend and I went to treat ourselves for a spa day together... We showed up 20 minutes early for our appointment and even after waiting 20 minutes AFTER our appointment time, the girl from the front desk came back to the "lounge" to tell us they overbooked and that we would have to come back another day. How did you not know that when we checked in that you had one massage therapist and three appointments? I have worked in the customer service industry for 10 years and this was just BAD customer service. The light hearted jokes and laughing at the expense of my time and money for a babysitter was not funny and therefore they will not get my business ever again. Let me start off by warning everyone to stay clear of MassageLuXe at Harbourview in Suffolk, Virginia. I received a gift card for a massage as one of my Valentine's Day gifts. While I was in a relaxed state of mind, I joined up- paying $58.88 per month! I think I was a little pressured when I signed up that day. To be totally honest I didn't fully understand the cancellation terms. Today I went to cancel my monthly membership thinking I had two massages left on my membership, because I had already paid for them out of my checking account. First I asked how many massages I had left that were paid for, I was told I had 2 left. When I proceeded to cancel the membership, I was told I had forfeited those two massages. When I expressed my displeasure at this; the manager, Brooke, told me to keep my voice down in the front area and said "I'm not going to argue with you". Despite being upset, I did not raise my voice at all. I asked Brooke for contact information to reach out to the district manager; she refused to give me the number and said she would email the district manager and I would have to wait for her to call me. I asked for the franchise owner and she reluctantly gave the name of Ben Fitzgerald. I asked for his contact information and did not receive that either. I confirmed my phone number and have still not heard from them and that was over six hours ago. So heed my warning, do not do business with their company. I took off one star because the waiting room is nicely furnished and offers, coffee/tea/water - it has very limited seating and some of us had to stand and wait in the waiting room. The place is very nice. The beds are heated and music relaxing. My massage was good but not as good as last time I was there.

Today is my birthday so I totally had to treat myself. I had a Groupon for Massage Luxe that had expired in September but they allowed me to use it as a credit towards my chosen package. I went with the 90 minute massage and Helen was my masseuse. She was very nice and polite. The only thing that puzzled me was the fact that she didn't ask me if she was pressing or rubbing too hard. I guess if she was then I could have said something but she nor did the paperwork that you fill out beforehand asked for your preferred intensity level. I have been a member for approximately 10 months. I have been seeing Rachel mostly and I am very pleased with her massage techniques! She asks me each time I come in if there is anything in particular I need her to concentrate on more which is awesome so I can get those areas where I have pulled a muscle, slept in the wrong position, neck strain, etc. I strongly recommend coming in and trying them out and ask for Rachel! read more

Great for a basic massage but when I requested, specifically, for an experienced therapist who was able to apply pressure... That's not what I was given. I even chose firm pressure on the intake form. It was obvious from my massage that my therapist was new. I happen to be an experienced therapist myself who taught massage for a number of years, so I recognize new hands. I do not blame the therapist but do blame those who booked my appointment and chose to ignore my specific request. I hope they will learn to listen to their clients a little more closely, rather than just shuffle as many bodies through as they can. I applaud efforts to try to make massage available to a greater number of people, but listening to your clients is a must. I will continue to seek out my own local therapist elsewhere. read more

I always get great service here and I get great massages. It is very relaxing and friendly environment. The price is very reasonable and they have a nice reward program. Highly recommend it for anyone who needs or wants massages regularly. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I took my family to Message LuXe for Christmas and the receptionist scammed me into signing a monthly service agreement. When I called to question the agreement, they told me they couldn't issue a refund for the (2) months they charged my card. Unethical and lack of integrity! read more
