There's nothing I love more than trying out a new cuisine so when I landed on the glowing reviews of this tucked away Eritrean restaurant just a stone's throw from my house I was dying for the chance to test it out. So when two adventurous dining companions came to my corner of the city looking for new place to try, we headed here! For those of you like me who have never tried Eritrean food, it's basically just like Ethiopian cuisine, but a bit less heavy on the sauces and spices. The place looks pretty drab from the outside but inside it was packed and percolating on a Friday night with a cool mix of young couples, big families and a bunch of kids roaming around. The menu is super affordable - mains go from 9E - 12E and are huge! I ordered the classic assortment of various vegetable and meat dishes, including a fantastic stewed lamb, a chicken leg doused in chunky red sauce, gorgeous sauteed spinach, lentils, and a fresh, crisply-dressed salad served over a layer of thick crepes that you use to scoop the food into your face. It was all delectable, fun to eat and insanely well-priced. But the real icing on the cake was the friendly service which included a visit from the owner to ask how we were enjoying our meals and to remind us that we could ask for extra free helpings of any of the items on our plates! Since the servings were so generous to begin with we turned him down, but what a sweet offer! Definitely going to make this one of my regular neighborhood haunts. Just remember to reserve on the weekends or if you're a large party.

The food seemed off the beaten path of French and Italian food and I had never had Eritrean food before, so I decided I must try it.

First off, they're open 24/7. Who could beat that since most of Paris closes fairly early on the weekends. We came here at 9pm on a Sunday. I highly recommend ordering from their specials menu. I got a Gorgonzola + black truffle cream pasta and my boyfriend got the calamari pasta. They were both so out of this world delicious. So glad we decided to try out this hole in the wall!!! We also didn't order a pizza, but their pizzas looked so delicious. I kept eyeing the guy next to me's pizza. Now the ambiance is great, it's not spacious in there, but it's always packed and that's a great sign. And it's not a bad packed, it's a comfy packed! The staff also speaks English but they're also happy when you practice your French. 10/10 would recommend

Reading the other reviews, we thought we would have a pleasant dining experience, but the atmosphere, food and service were poor. We dined here ahead of a show at the Moulin Rouge. Service was slow, uncaring and inattentive. The pasta was gummy. Really there was nothing here enjoyable. The diners at the tables on either side of of us were loud, rude and using foul language. I have no pictures to post as there was nothing worth taking a picture of. We experienced nothing like this anywhere else in France. This was a wasted evening of dining and money

That's where Végébowl comes in to save the day as my first meal after arriving in Paris. Being the de facto food connoisseur of my group since I'm plant-based, I was excited to try this spot and see my friends enjoying all the food as well. We started with their Shiitake Mushroom Fritters (6€) and these were crispy, golden perfection in our mouths. They weren't overly fried or greasy and the mushrooms were tender and fantastic. For my main, I tried their Claypot Udon with Satay Sauce (12€). Even on a hot Parisian day, this noodle soup definitely filled me up. The sauce was fantastic - a mix of satay paste and coconut milk, and all the tofu and veggies incorporated with the udon was just heavenly. They also had BOBA. I was thrilled that they offered milk tea (with ice!) and boba, and while it didn't blow me away, the fact that it was even available meant I was ordering one. My friend agreed. Definitely loved dining here and would say they are one of my go-to spots now especially the next time I'm in Paris.

The Tofu Tout Flamme was one of their Buddha Bowls that caught my attention pretty quickly - I was intrigued by the fact that it is served over sticky rice, which is one favorite kinds of rice. It also had shiitake mushrooms in a saté sauce, marinated tofu, kobacha squash, plantains, and fresh greens. I definitely enjoyed every single bite. The small bowl was perfect for a light lunch. I like when places give you the option of small and large portions, so that you don't end up spending money on food that you're not going to eat and will end up going to waste. Many other items on the menu looked fantastic, too, so this will definitely be a place I come back to next time I'm in Paris.
