The menu had my name and wishing me a happy birthday. The staff here made every moment special. From taking our order, their knowledge of everything made it the perfect dining experience. Dresses to the nines, the staff left a great impression. We didn't have to wait for anything. Our Old Fashions were made with Knob Creek, at our request and they were so smooth and delicious. The dungeness crab was chilled, shelled, and served with dry ice, quite the show. So tasty and tender. The seaweed salad under it completed the seafood freshness. The bread basket, as described in the photos, there were so many options. The Tomahawk Australian Wagu was so tender, juicy and like butter. Served with sides of our choice, creamed spinach, wild mushroom with rosemary. A lobster tail added the perfect touch. The blue cheese sauce and the bernaise, just wow! I was a bit disappointed with my experience here. The tables were placed so close together that we could barely hear our own conversation over the chatter from the table behind us. For appetizers, we ordered the crab cakes, which I'd rate a 3/5, and the scallops, which were excellent, definitely a 5/5. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. We both ordered the bone‑in ribeye cooked medium, but one arrived closer to medium‑well. The flavor was just okay, and we actually had to ask for salt. This was my second visit to Mastro's, and it was a truly memorable full dining experience. My first visit was only for dessert and cocktails, but this time we enjoyed dinner--and it exceeded every expectation. First and foremost, the service was outstanding. Our waitstaff was attentive, friendly, and genuinely personable, making us feel like A list VIPs from start to finish. As for the entrées, every dish was cooked to perfection. I had the ribeye, which was incredibly tender and juicy. My wife ordered the Chilean seabass, expertly seared and beautifully flaky. My son had the double cut pork chop, which was well seasoned and impressively moist. We shared a couple of sides, including the green beans with sliced almonds, which were crisp and well seasoned. The scalloped potatoes were the only slight miss--just a bit bland and slightly oily--but still enjoyable. Dessert capped off the evening perfectly. The crème brûlée had a light, crisp top and a smooth, velvety custard with a lovely vanilla bean flavor--no burnt taste at all. The world famous butter cake absolutely lived up to the hype, served warm with vanilla ice cream and fresh berries. Simply outstanding. This dinner was part of my birthday celebration, and it was such a fantastic experience that I asked the manager to stop by our table so I could personally thank her. Four of us came for dinner Saturday night and the hostess was very friendly and seated us promptly in the bar. I was shocked at how close the tables were to each other. Our ladies and our server could barely get to the back of the table to be seated. Our server and the staff were awesome which helps with the situation. The noise factory was extremely loud in the bar from the table next to us and the other patrons to the singer. We ordered the bone in Filet ($90) medium rare to split. It came out a little over medium (pink) and didn't have the flavor or the quality I was expecting for the price. Our friends ordered the same meal (medium) and theirs was good. All the sides came out hot and cooked fine. We left the restaurant around 7:30 and it was moderately busy. Our bill was just over $400 for the 4 of us. This breaks my heart as after a 5 star experience 5 years ago, it was a very disappointing one this week. The service is excellent. Our hostess greeted us, asked if we were celebrating anything special, offered to take our photo and we had a choice of where we wanted to sit. Cecil, our server, was attentive but not hovering, quite personable and took very good care of us. The live entertainment was too loud and the sound system poor. The guitarist sang from time to time but the speakers only amplified the sound while muffling the voice. The music choice was not jazzy or instrumental, but an eclectic mix which really didn't suit the atmosphere. My cosmo was not a traditional tasting cocktail. Instead of a light lime and cranberry essence, it was closer to a sweet tart. It was blush colored and not too sweet, just not the flavor I typically go for when getting a cosmo. The $90 rib eye was so tough the table shook each time we attempted to cut the meat. After several bites of encountering unchewable gristle, we let Cecil know, and he immediately had the manager come over. He took it off the bill and we did not replace it with another steak. On a positive note, there is plenty of parking in the back. I'm sure Business Customer Service will respond to this review with the generic acknowledgement I could have chosen anywhere to eat and to please follow the link to a survey. I have to wonder if these survey results go anywhere or are really driving any change. I have read in so many reviews the meat quality is poor with a hefty price tag, which matches my experience as well. I'll complete the survey with the hopes of impacting a more positive dining experience for others, but for me, I won't be returning to Mastros. Update: the survey link appears to be a marketing company, where you have to scroll around to find Mastros, then it requires a lot of personal data before even bringing you to the survey. I'm not sure the response to my review is an actual Mastros employee, but rather a bot that uses AI to search out poor reviews and use patron data for marketing. I would definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time. Food and drinks: There was some confusion when ordering a drink that is normally ordered at the bar but it was fine. The food was good and came out fairly quick, which was appreciated. The Grounds for Divorce drink was fantastic.... Still thinking about it. The steaks were good and flavorful and the mashed potatoes were also wonderful. Valet is offered and our party of 6 was seated immediately. This restaurant is elegant and intimate -- great for special occasions or a date night. The breads here are just not very good unfortunately. My partner agreed with me on this one. For most of our entrees, we ordered filets. One person ordered the rack of lamb. All sides are a la carte and we ordered: garlic mashed potatoes, mushrooms, broccolini, and white cheddar Mac and cheese. Everything was exceptional in taste and temperature and cooked as requested. Literally, the most epic New Year's Eve ever. The place was so beautiful and creatively decorated. Our waiter could not have been nicer. There's nothing more scary about waiting a table with five children! She handled it with zero hesitation whatsoever and accommodated all of their ridiculous little requests, which included 20 extra olives to my martini lol the people next to us were so nice and so friendly everyone was in such a great New Year's mood! Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. Mastro's used to be our go-to steakhouse, but the quality has clearly gone downhill. Two of the filets arrived cold and completely lacking flavor. My New York strip was honestly one of the worst steaks I've had-cold, bland, and not enjoyable at all. My husband's bone-in filet was also a letdown. We're not the type to complain or send food back, so we didn't make a scene-but at this price point, the expectation for quality should be a given. Service was just okay--nothing memorable-and the overall atmosphere felt loud and rushed rather than the elevated dining experience we used to associate with Mastro's. We've been going to Steak 48 more often recently, and the difference in quality and experience is night and day. It's unfortunate to say, but after this visit, it's hard to justify coming back. We visited during the week while on vacation for our anniversary. This was our first time dining at this location. This location is on the Paseo in a very nice area. When we walked in we were greeted and immediately taken to our table. We were given a few different choices on where we could sit and we elected to sit in one of the side dining rooms were it was quiet but we could still hear the live music. Our server was Haley and she did an amazing job. My wife ordered one of their Lemon Martini's and I ordered an old fashioned. The drinks were delicious. We skipped on ordering a starter and elected to order the bread basket, a wedge and lobster bisque. The wife said the bisque was the best that she had ever had. My friends and I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Mastro's Palm Desert during Memorial Day weekend. We were seated at a high-top table in the main dining room. It was dimly lit with a live singer, and we were overlooking their beautiful bar. We made reservations for Sunday at 9pm. We were seated a few minutes after arrival. The restaurant was PACKED given the long weekend. It did take a few minutes for us to be greeted by our waitress, but after that everything was smooth sailing! For drinks, my friends had the pomegranate martini (which I tried, and it was amazing!) I ordered a glass of NZ Sauvignon Blanc which came GENEROUSLY poured (8-9 oz.) Incredible as well! We ordered the bread basket and tuna tartare to start. The bread basket had a variety of freshly baked breads with unique flavors. They were all warm, chewy, and paired perfectly with the soft, salted butter. The tuna tartare was fresh, flavorful, and a prefect way to start the meal. For our mains, we all had the petite filet and shared the scalloped potatoes, truffle butter wild mushrooms, and creamed corn. We also ordered the peppercorn, bernaise, and hollandaise sauces to try with our steaks. The steaks were cooked PERFECTLY. The sides were luxurious and so so delicious. Their creamed corn was some of the best I have ever tried. We were stuffed so sadly no dessert, but I would love to try their butter cake sometime. All in all, we had an amazing meal. Flawless experience. Live music from the bar in the other room set the mood for the night. Recent visits to upscale steakhouses have left me unimpressed recently, but Mastro's made up for it all. I finally had a good steak experience. I've been on a kick recently where we would get a few steaks to share to create our own sampler. This allows us to really compare the different cuts of beef side by side. Unsurprisingly, the bone-in ribeye was confirmed as the family favorite. Temperature came out perfect, especially with the hot plate where it continues to cook for a couple more minutes. The bread basket is well worth it, with a nice selection of bread and pretzels. One of the breads was a rye, which I like. Crab cake, salad, and sides were all on point. We saved room for butter cake, and it was fabulous. I haven't had it in a while, but it is worth the calories. We couldn't stop. Grab a couple of Mastro's golf tees on your way out to top off a great experience. read more

First off I'm going to say that Matros is our favorite restaurant in the desert. We eat there at least once a month. However, the last two times we have eaten there, two weeks apart, we have had problems with the meat selection. The first time we were in, we got the chefs, cut ribeye, and found it to be full of gristle. The next time we came in, which was a couple of days ago we got the boneless ribeye and the same problem with the beef. Very tough and plenty of gristle again! I don't know what has happened, but I could get a ribeye from Costco and cook it myself and it will be more tender and better tasting than what I paid good money for at this restaurant. Whoever is doing the meat buying has got to pick a new supplier because it has been subpar. Service and entertainment have always been great and that's what keeps us coming back, but I may be looking for a new steakhouse. read more

I sat for at least 15 minutes before either of the three, yes THREE bartenders acknowledged me. Once one had, I ordered my standard- Belvedere Martini to start and the "recommended" bone-in Prime Ribeye paired with a wonderful Syrah. Guys, like I said, I'll keep this simple. This is what happens when most of your clientele have more dollars than sense and whose tastebuds are so pickled after their third vodka martini, that you could literally place a piece of cardboard in front of them and they'd swear it was A5 Kobe. *This Mastro is not my Maestro* When I was a kid my parents used to listen to restaurant critic, Elmer Dills's radio show so I grew up listening to restaurant and food talk while out & about in their car or back at the crib. I enjoyed it so much, whether the reviews were positive or negative, I looked so forward to his Sunday afternoon talk show -- especially after Dodger games on KABC Radio and his weekly tv segments on ABC News. Sometimes my family & I tuned in while trying to decide where'd we'd go out to eat that night or the following week. I'm dedicating this review to Elmer Dills for bringing the restaurant critic out of me (and you too)...and this will be my last restaurant review for the time being and taking a break from Yelp submissions. One of the best & memorable meals I've had was at Mastro's in Beverly Hills. After 10+ years of being a vegan and/or pescatarian, I decided to hang up my vegan cleats in 2004 after the Red Sox finally won the World Series and chose Mastro's to indulge in a filet and celebrate. Everything was spectacular & Fantastico -- all food & service from top to bottom and inside & out. Something so great you don't forget. It felt special. Unfortunately, things change and my 1st experience at El Paseo's location did not live up to expectations. And the Mastro's Brothers would be scratching their heads with how much has changed since they sold out to VC corporate Goliaths. Decor & Ambiance: what you'd expect -- cool, dark and classy but not too over-the-top nor stuffy but felt slightly robotic. And the back room where we were seated was shared with a large group & a crying baby and another large group filled with toddlers -- felt like they stuck us in the kids table bullpen lol. The portion was nice & sliced but not all the way through -- maybe it's served this way. But nothing was very tender about this fish and barely any sauce to boot for a 2-base error. Very bush league. Baked Potato: infield single Coated with way too much salt on the outside and not crispy. Tho we didn't indulge in the condiments, there's no need for so much salt on the potato skin -- even with the 6 different condiments. Brussel Spouts: hit by pitch Salt salt and more salt and felt like another round of Sodium Wallbangers which was frustrating because they were roasted perfectly. Whom ever was prepping in the kitchen must be breaking in a new glove(s) because everything was overpowered with waaay too much salt and pepper...and either too much sauce or lack of. {{{7th Inning Stretch}}} My buddy came in from LA for a belated bday dinner.
