I usually end up leaving empty handed as the clothes here tend to look better on the mannequins and totally different when I try them on. Their smallest size is still quite big and although the material looks very pretty it always looks a little bit cheap on closer inspection. It probably wouldn't look cheap if it was priced the same as say, H&M or Topshop but the prices here are totally ridiculous and you can find yourself spending £100+ for a dress. If you have that kind of money to spend on clothes then there are a lot nicer places you could be spending it. The best thing about Monsoon is sale time, although I've never managed to find anything here, a few of my friends have some really pretty formal dresses which they look amazing in and paid only 30% of the original price. I do, however, absolutely love Monsoons counterpart - Accessorize, there is a small section in this branch but if you're looking for more then you can nip across the road where there's a whole shop dedicated to their gorgeous accessories.

Therefore, it would be difficult to justify spending that much for mediocre quality clothes which you would barely ever get the opportunity to wear. Nonetheless, it's worth popping in for a look, especially in sale session. Even if you can't find something for yourself it's the kind of place where you could pick up a reduced item for an older - or maybe just classier, more adventurous - family member.

When I'm in and around Princes Square, I'll pop my head into French Connection to check out their dresses. Their women's selection is pretty comprehensive, and offers many different styles of dresses. I love meandering through the racks and by the walls lined with tailored and flowy fabrics. Prices can be a bit steep, so I make my assault when there are sales. The dresses I have bought (on sale) are well-tailored and quality. Aside from dresses, they also offer basics like jeans, shirts, jumpers, shoes and accessories. The service is friendly and helpful when needed. Bottom line: gorgeous well-tailored dresses, but if your wallet's a bit thin, you're best checking out the sales.

Zara does some fantastic tailoring which has a quirky twist to it and the colour palette is often quite muted with the likes of beigh, khaki, black, grey etc which I like because Zara clothes make a great base on which to build an outfit. I had been searching for the perfect mac for yeeeears and finally found it in Zara this week. It was £70 and I will wear it for years to come as it is very classic looking and will never go out of fashion. In fact it makes me feel like a sexy female spy during WW2! Or inspector gadget! One bug bare with Zara is that the clothes are sized as xs/s/m/l/xl and it is a bit of a pain trying to work out which size you are. I finally realised that I am an extra small (which I really shouldn't have been surprised about as I am a midget) but some of Zara's clothes stop at a small for some bizare reason. I've heard a lot of complaints about the length of Zara's trousers and jeans but a little known Zara fact is that they will tailor any of your purchases for free! Zara is a Spanish company and in Europe women don't think twice about getting all their clothes tailored to fit them perfectly. Zara have brought this ethos over to the UK and thus purposly make their trousers quite long to accomodate tall statuesque types but can also alter them for free for munchkin types like myself.

I have to admit, many of clothes at Zara are great value for money and you can get quirky tees for as little as £6. They have really pretty dresses and tailored jackets too which are always a little bit different to most shops on the high street but they are rather expensive and some of their shoes can be over £100 and I don't really think they're anything special. I like the fact that Zara has their own range of perfumes and cosmetics, their lip gloss is particularly good and only £1.95 a pop! I guess, if you're looking for a new outfit then Zara is a good shout and you'll more often than not come away with something pretty. This is probably one of the best Zara stores around Glasgow as it is huge and they often have a sale section too so you could snap up a bargain.

You can get dresses for around £35 and coats and jackets for about £60. In recent years Wallis has tried to become more and more trendy. I guess this is probably due to shows from Gok Wan and Trinny and Susannah helping women of all ages feel confident about the way they dress. I guess it's just like a more mature Topshop for women who want to dress their age but don't want that to mean that they have to dress like a granny. Wallis fills that gap pretty well. They also stock some pretty quirky accessories and scarves too so you can customise your whole outfit.

As with all Primark stores you have to queue for an absolute age before you get served, and if you're like me you'll pick up a few more pairs of socks or maybe even an umbrella on the way. A bit of sneaky impulse buy tactics there. This one is particularly busy and seeing as I'm a rather inpatient person I'll more often than not take one look at the queue and then walk straight back out again. In saying that, there's often a lot of staff on the tills, it's all hands on decks here! Even so, if you're in a rush then you'd probably best go elsewhere and avoid the wild bargain shoppers.

I was wrong, it's also huge, and despite being slightly baffled as to why they would open two giant stores within a few hundred yards of each other in a space of a matter of weeks (as well as another smaller store also in Buchanan Galleries), you've got to hand it to H&M as they certainly aren't shy about making their presence felt. Inside it's the usual mix of male, female and childrens' clothing, all very cheap and all probably quite fashionable, though I wouldn't really know. I've not bought anything from here yet but as my jeans have a massive hole in the backside and need replaced urgently, H&M are difinitely in the running for my custom.

Their scarves are also really pretty with really unusual colourful designs which will always receive plenty of compliments. I'm not a great fan of their going out clothes though and they seem to use really cheap material for everything which I hate the feel of. This H&M also really annoys me because it has a rediculous layout and apart from the changing rooms there aren't any mirrors so to see what accessories look like on you have to go to the changing room with them which is just silly. There also seems to be not enough tills for the size of the shop which often causes lengthy queues resulting in me usually putting things back and leaving. I used to live in Dresden in Germany and there weren't many clothes shops. H&M was really the only affordable one, resulting in everyone walking around looking like clones designed by H&M. Not a good look.
