The matcha is spot on, but sometimes it can be strong so I like to get vanilla with it. Their cakes and other matcha desserts are good too, I just haven't gotten the chance to try their drinks yet. I would say it's a bit pricey for what they serve but portions are definitely filling. It's very nice to have when you enter the mall. There's some seating but not that much. This place genuinely made me more upset than i'd ever been before. I had went to tyson's specifically to get the banana bread matcha, as one does. It's js so popular, and I am a matcha fan, so naturally I had the eagerness to try it out for myself. The service started and ended off poorly. I was informed that the banana bread matcha was sold out, and as upset as I was, I knew there was nothing they nor I could do about that. So, I continued to ask for the dubai chocolate matcha, but was then informed THAT was sold out too. Just great right!! My group ordered a mixed shaved ice which had a red bean paste, mochi, and ice cream on top. The price was quite hefty for this dessert and not worth it ($12). I shared this dessert with my group, and I thought it nailed the matcha flavor very well. The shaved ice was the base and had the most matcha flavor out of all of the different toppings. The ice cream on top was very creamy, but I wasn't a big fan of it. The toppings, I felt, were nice to have if you wanted to change up the taste and texture of the dessert but weren't all too special. I really enjoyed the red bean paste and the shaved ice the most. Overall, Matcha Cafe Maiko is a nice dessert place if you're ever looking to try or indulge in Japanese treats. Either that or you just love matcha (and there's nothing wrong with that!). Located inside the mall near Starbucks and by the outdoor area on the 2nd floor (Shack Shake and Barrels and Bushel) is a small Matcha Cafe stall, selling soft serve matcha ice cream and a weekly rotating flavor (black sesame, vanilla, milk tea, etc) along with some frappuccinos and tea. The matcha flavor was more bitter than I expected and the milk tea didn't have much sweetness and couldn't balance out the flavor. Typically, vanilla pairs well with matcha and adds a nice hint of sweetness to the swirl, but the milk tea didn't quite cut it. The Oreo crumbs were more of a light dusting rather than crushed Oreo cookies that I anticipated. The Oreo crumbs were very subtle and while the topping made a nice photo op, it didn't elevate the flavor. The other option for Oreos is a whole Oreo cookie. Wish there was something in between with crushed Oreos! While I prefer the matcha and vanilla ice cream swirl with crushed oreo topping at Kyoto Matcha in Rockville, the crispy housemade waffle cone was divine and leak-proof at Matcha Cafe Maikos. It was hands-down the best part of the ice cream! I would be interested in coming back if I could get crushed Oreos to help balance out the bitterness of the matcha and try one of the new weekly flavors. read more

Having been to the Matcha Cafe Maiko in Garden Grove, California, I was hoping that the Tysons location would have a similar strong matcha flavor in their ice cream. Unfortunately, I was strongly disappointed instead. The ice cream has a nice creaminess, but it could definitely use more matcha powder to make the matcha flavor come through more strongly in the ice cream. First and foremost, I'm so happy that I was able to try out Maiko at Tysons location! I've been meaning to visit this particular spot since their grand opening. They are located on the second floor in the mall close to Victoria Secret and Starbucks. I just wish that I lived closer to this area to visit often. The staff there are friendly and efficient . Not only that, the cleanliness of the establishment is superb. I ordered the Maiko special, iced matcha latte, and the black sesame ice cream. My most favorite item out of the three are the black sesame ice cream! It has a slight coffee after taste and the sweetness level is spot on (not overly sweet)! As for the matcha latte, I did get it modified to 50% less sweet. I don't recommend modifying the sweetness level because the matcha itself tends to be on the bitter side. Other than that, it is also a delicious beverage! I will be back here again! P.S. Maiko at Tysons offers stamp cards for every purchase you make. Collect as many as you can! read more

I am absolutely obsessed with the Matcha Cafe Maiko in Centereville, so I was super excited that this outpost was opening a bit closer to me. Unfortunately, this stand does not come close. First of all, it is not properly staffed so the lines are super long. Be prepared to wait! Staff interaction is minimal because everyone is very harried. We ordered two matcha oat milk lattes and had to wait almost fifteen minutes to receive our order and when we got it, it was SO hot we had to wait another thirty minutes to drink it. The swirl was good, but nothing noteworthy. *Serious Minus - The staff was just cleaning the soft serve machine right when you opened, but not only that, first told us it would be 30 min, then when we came back they said another 15 min, then another 10 min, then another 5 min. Their matcha will never fail I am very particular about my matcha, and when I want an indulgent matcha soft serve, Matcha Cafe Maiko is the only place. The texture of the soft-serve is super creamy, and they do not take matcha lightly - you can see tiny flakes of matcha in the soft-serve. I used to have to go all the way to Centreville to get them, so super happy they opened in Tysons. My bf got the Oreo Matcha frap and it was also so good! Clearly taste the matcha and the oreo. I love matcha, and I come by this place almost every time I go to Tyson's! The only time I leave disappointed is when I'm there and they aren't open yet (they open later in the fall, winter, and spring). I like their matcha lattes (they use a much higher-quality type of matcha than larger chains like Starbucks or Peet's) but it's their soft-serve ice cream that keeps me coming back. They always have the matcha flavor available but also have one other rotation, sometimes seasonal flavor like Sakura cherry blossom, mango, or vanilla. We actually caught this place (and the huge line) when we were on our way out of the mall. They have a huge menu that was a little overwhelming so it was kind of hard to pick. We wanted to order the cheese matcha latte but it was the only thing they didn't have. We settled on the Matcha Cream and Matcha Chocolate lattes.
