Went for brunch and they have a $42/pp all you can eat. Everyone must get it at the table if that's what you choose. It's served family style and the portions are large. 3 of us so we got 3 dishes plus cinnamon rolls ( no raisins). It was good to try but not probably worth it. Seafood scramble 7/10... steak and eggs (7.5/10) and chicken and waffles 7/10. I would recommend smaller portions. Also taco and waffle bar ( advertised) was not available on a Saturday but said nothing about it. Service was very good, clean restaurant , easy parking.

For a quick hearty lunch, my coworkers decided on Matchbox (courtesy of our Rep paying, thank you so much). I ordered the crab soup + the crab and shrimp fettucine... yes I really wanted crab! The crab and shrimp fettucine fell short by just a tad since it tasted pretty bland... Though, the pasta was cooked al dente and the crab meat was good. The crab soup was phenomenal to eat hot and tasted even better when I dipped the crab fettucine in it. (Dont knock it til you try it)! We ordered for pick up so I cant say much about the service; when we walked in, there was no one at the host stand or any servers on the floor, just one bartender shining glasses. There was one staff member I do want to shout out, wish I caught his name but he called out to us after we had left and gave us the salad dressings that they forgot to include. As for interior, it definitely has a different vibe to it than the Merrifield location that I have been to. It felt more "classy" -- vs. the Merrifield location feels "casual" and more "relatable."

We came to try the unlimited brunch option. They had a lot of options to choose from. The mimosas are very good. Some of the food was lacking flavor or seasoning. I think this is a good idea as unlimited brunch is very in now it's just missing the fun and flavor at this location. This location did not get busy at all maybe half the restaurant at one point. It is very clean inside and the staff is friendly. The parking and location is good here.

It's so interesting how this place is tucked into a suburban neighborhood. My server was very attentive and my pizza was perfect. Almost reminded me of the pizza I grew up with living outside NYC. I'll definitely be back.

I would describe Matchbox as a solid choice, if you live in Tysons/McLean area, and you're pressed for time. The menu is Modern American, with options for brick oven pizza -- it has just enough of a variety that everyone should be able to choose something that appeals to them. The space is quite open and I love the fact that the majority of the seating are set up as booths. Side note: I wish more restaurants could be set up this way, it gets you out of the way of the servers and wait staff going up and down the aisles. -- [I realize for restaurants with smaller footprint, it's impractical, as booths take up more space] We came in at 6:30, and we were able to get a table easily, but the restaurant was filling up soon after. We got the Garden Veggie pizza, it said it had roasted vegetables, and the Herb Crusted Salmon Salad - both were quite good. We finished off with one of their dessert items - Donuts. I wish I could have taken a photo of this fried bit of deliciousness, but sadly we attacked it too quickly for me to take a decent photo. In lieu of a photo, let me describe it to you: It wasn't quite a beignet, but it wasn't just some donut either. It was something in between dusted with powdered sugar and it came with a side of two different sauces: chocolate and raspberry. The service was fine, but I think our server was somewhat new (??) -- she seemed somewhat unfamiliar with the menu, when we had questions and taking our order, I think our entire table lowered our expectations slightly to account for possible hiccups with our order. Bottom line, it's the convenience of this restaurant, because the thought of dealing with mall traffic and parking, just to get dinner, especially if you are pressed for time, makes this place ideal

Service was good, ambiance is okay (a bit of family and a bit of bar fun...it depends where you sit). The drinks are nice. I had the flaming hater margaritas, which was a 6 out of 10. The old fashions were a 5 out of 10. I also had the $20 burgers, which was a 3 out of 10. It was oily, not tasty (meaning flavorless), and it had a handful of fries.

Matchbox has some interesting pizza combinations that may be worth exploring. The cheese pizza I had was soggy, no great quality or flavorful cheese. The salmon salad faired well and a good serving. The crabcake sandwich was better than expected. It had lumb crab and filler with a tasty sauce. It's about the size of a hamburger, there's filler but it's well balanced.

September 29th 2025 I went there today and I'm disappointed for the spare ribs the glaze of the sauce was too sweet had no flavor there was almost no meeting there I do remember long time ago I had that green pigs bistro with the really excellent Shroff silver to die for to lick the fingers compared to those it's a five levels difference so anyway I was disappointed restaurant was empty at 4:00 I know it's happy hour but nobody goes there there is a room for improvements restaurant looks beautiful also I noticed all the plans are plastic inside I will put some life plans inside and it was nobody at the front door no hostess I know it's only 4:00 but you need to keep employees no news channel on like those stupid sports all the time used to be America used to be you know I used to have a sport in new news use the newspapers in the restaurant to share then I go to the bathroom and you have a faucets which you know gives you 10 seconds water like in Virginia with a shortage of water change those faucets don't be so trendy with the green stuff Virginia we have plenty of water you dig the whole the water comes up you need to improve more restaurant your prices also for the food there are too high for the quality of the future of the wine you offer

We came on a Saturday morning at 10:40 am. It want super busy so we were able to get seated immediately. Brunch Food order Apps: Cinnamon rolls 2/5 Disappointing don't get it. It came out cold and was very hard on the outside. Instead of icing they actually use whip cream. I wish it was softer and warmer. Entrees Brunch pizza 3.5/5 Hangover burrito 5/5 Portions were very generous. Pricing was a bit expensive so makes sense. My bf and I were talking about how the steak and eggs could be $40 but we went to a higher end restaurant in DC the prior week called Old Ebbit and their portions were generous and steak and eggs were $28. So just a warning. Drinks Orange juice and coke Service was okay not the best not the worst. They did their job. Ambiance was nicer than some other matchboxes I've been to.

Came for lunch on a Saturday . Wasn't busy at all. After ordering it took awhile for the food to be served. After digging in I realized the food was probably sitting for a bit before the server got the food to us because everything was lukewarm. Ate it anyway. Water glass wasn't refilled even though I placed it by the aisle and the manager walked by several times and saw it was empty. Lots of improvement needed if they want reoccurring business/to survive because this restaurant is kind of off the beaten path with limited foot traffic in downtown McLean which is normally deserted during the summer with people on vacation.

This is my second time coming to Matchbox. It was definitely improved over the last time I visited one of their locations. We stopped in for a little brunch this past Saturday. They updated the menu to have a couple of new items and for it to have a new updated look which was nice. To start, the food was good but some of it is better than others. The cinnamon rolls were not good. They were a bit hard and not even warm. There wasn't much icing on them so they're a definite pass in my opinion. The brunch pizza was good but not great. A couple of slices didn't seem to have much sauce while others had much more sauce. The slices with more sauce tasted better with all the toppings. The star of the meal was the hangover burrito. My girlfriend and I both loved it! It had so much flavor and was filled with a lot of ingredients. It was served with rice and beans as well. The food was definitely filling. The ambiance is pretty standard for any chain restaurant these days. It's open and casual to feel more inviting. It's one of the newer locations so it's definitely more updated and modern. There wasn't much to brag about here though. They do have patio seating from what one of the signs said. The service was good. Our waitress was kind and always made sure we had refills and food was out quickly. I wouldn't say she went above and beyond but it could be that they're still finding their groove since it's a newer location. I'd say it's worth a stop here. They have a parking lot out front which is nice. This is the best Matchbox location that either me or my girlfriend have been to. If they work out some of the bumps they have, then I'm sure they'll be a great restaurant in the near future.

I had three mini burgers... they were the best burgers I have had in a long while. Perfect sear, perfect bun to patty ratio, perfect amount of cheese, and a slice of pickle. The manager Ray Espwhatever has 0 customer service skills. He hung up the phone while I was trying to modify my daughter's birthday reservation. He answered the phone asking what I want ?? AS THE MANAGER ! And I just wanted to change the reservation. lol now nobody is answering the phone to do this for my daughter. This is bullshit. Zero stars. read more

Matchbox McLean used to be good. Good food and reasonably priced. Management for some reason decided to upscale this restaurant and it has somehow caused a steep decline in quality and service. My family has been eating at the Merrifield location for years and were very pleased that they opened the McLean location so this decline is very disappointing. In addition they used to have a nice brunch but have ruined it. You cannot order a light breakfast. They force you to buy the all you can eat for $38. I am not an all you can eat person and neither are the rest of the family. read more

So we went there today to grab a lunch and I have to admit I was definitely not happy after our meal. We ordered the crab soup and there was absolutely no lumps of crab in it. Just a thick broth. I should've known, but I went ahead and ordered the crab and avocado tower and I was just disgusted because there crab seem to be grounded up. It doesn't seem to be that lump juicy crab that I'm used to. We were the only people there and now I see why. Had brunch here - menu choices and the food was great. Our challenge was . . . why do hey crank the music at 10:30 on a Sunday morning. It was so loud our multi-generational family was stymied carrying on a conversation. We had to ask them to turn it down - and they complied - but that is always uncomfortable to have to make the ask. I am disappointed. Having driven from the airport with an appetite we walked in at about 8:45 PM with a sign saying they close at 9 and we were told we could only get takeout. The signage? Well, a detail. I went back and asked for the manager, and noted that they just opened and should want someone like me to like it there, but they were more interested in closing and going home than having a happy customer. This is definitely an overpriced place for what they give you. Granted we ordered 3 apps, an entree each, a dessert and drinks but a total of $200 (with the tip) for 2 adults and one kid it's so very overpriced! A brownie dessert was $10... ouch! And artichoke spinach dip $14.. I would rather go to a higher quality restaurant and pay the same amount for better food. Only reason why we came was to try it for Father's Day. I don't think I will be back. read more

Absolutely ridiculous food - stopped in for Happy Hour with a fiend and had their watermelon crushed ice drink that was so sor I gave up on it half way through - the short ribs (so tiny you'd have to be Barbie to eat them- and a fruity citrus Long Island Iced tea - if you want a hint at how to make a Long Island, never try to "improve" on the recipe by adding lemonade! I will never go back here. read more

My sister and I were in the area and stopped in for lunch. We've both been to other locations and we agreed it was so pleasant to away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Ben greeted us and ironically was also our server. We sat outside under the shade of an umbrella. Ben recommended the calamari (in fact he insisted) & we ordered the crab tower. Both were delicious. Red snapper, seared salmon salad, and the apple pear salad were very enjoyable. Ben has a welcoming and kind spirit. We enjoyed our light conversation about his background and journey. The Texas standoff and dirty little secret were nice for the day we had & both pack a decent punch. Restaurant and bathroom were clean. Service was swift. Tap pay at the table was convenient. Needless to say Matchbox has earned a spot on my radar, specifically McLean. read more

TL;DR No reflection on their pizza. We ordered Fish & Chips and BBQ Ribs. The food was fine and we ate it all, just that it all was just reheated frozen dinners. We also got drinks, an Old Fashioned and Pineapple something... fine tasting, but a thimble's worth in a glass full of ice. All fine for $15, not $95. read more

My first time at a Matchbox, and I am a fan for life. Their pizza is AMAZING- perfect crust thickness and texture, delicious fresh sauce and just the right amount, ditto for every other part of my margarita pizza. Their McLean location is clean, spacious and the Matchbox McLean staff deserves props for their excellence customer service. Ed, my server was so on top of everything, and their Director, Pete, was also touring tables and speaking with customers to make sure everything was Matchbox perfect and all customers had a one of a kind experience. I have been to Matchbox about 5 times since it's opened. I've noticed the prices ($17 for a mixed drink, $27 for a GF personal pizza $17 for a simple salad with protein and average of $18 for each appetizer) I have been shocked at the total price of the bill. A family of (4) will run you over $100 for a quick neighborhood pizza joint for a mid week dinner, In my opinion I would rather go to Rocco's or Santini's for food that is comparable at 1/2 the price. Matchbox bring your prices down 20% and more locals will visit. read more

I had lunch with a friend at the McLean branch of Matchbox today and there were a couple of things that really bothered me. First of all, even though I was the second person waiting to be seated, I was ignored as the waiter addressed two men who came in after I did. When this was pointed out by the later arrivals, I was seated at the draftiest table in the restaurant. I requested another table and was seated in a draft free area. It took at least six attempts for him to understand my very simple order. The food arrived promptly and was okay. Once food was delivered, we were completely ignored even though the waiter passed by many times on his way to other tables to refill drinks, etc. We had to flag him down to get drink refills. The place was not particularly crowded so there is no excuse for such poor service. I have no idea if they are using a staffing service but they've lost my business. read more

Decided to give Matchbox another try after a decent, but not great dinner the night before. Ordered a Pizza to go. How hard could this be? Showed up, my pizza was ready, just sitting there, but I couldn't check out because there was only one check out terminal available and another customer was taking his sweet time going through each of the individual items on the menu, asking lots of questions, etc. I mentioned to the staff that my pizza was getting cold while I was waiting to pay. "Sorry sir, we only have one terminal for check out". Result? Cold pizza upon pick up. Disappointed. Hopefully, management will address this. read more

Our server seemed to be frazzled the whole night. Twice during the meal we had our drinks delivered to the wrong table. The manager verbally apologized, but took nothing off the bill. It also took a really long time to get water refilled at the table which was an issue in the heat. Verdict: 6/10. If they ironed out the kinks with service and dropped their prices by 10% on select dishes (tiny sirloin bites and subpar crispy tuna rice for almost $50 is madness), they would probably be an 8/10. I'll probably give them one more try and just avoid some dishes.

I recently visited Matchbox for their weekend brunch, and overall, it was a solid experience. The restaurant was very clean, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our visit, which definitely added to the positive vibe. We opted for the brunch special, priced at $38 per person. One thing to note: if one person at the table chooses the brunch special, all guests must participate. It's a good deal considering the wide range of food options available. As for the food, it was good--nothing particularly memorable, but enjoyable nonetheless. We tried several items including the French toast (a bit on the hard side), cinnamon rolls (decent, but not amazing), catfish and grits, chicken Alfredo, pizza, and wings. Everything was fresh and satisfying, though nothing really stood out flavor-wise. We didn't try the mimosas, but they are not part of the brunch package for those who want to indulge. Unlike some other Matchbox locations, this one didn't have a live DJ or the signature cotton candy, which might be a slight letdown if you're expecting more of an "experience" brunch. Despite a few misses, I'd still recommend Matchbox if you're someone who enjoys a nice brunch outing. We had yet another excellent meal at Matchbox - to be honest, it had been several months since we had been here but the quality was even better than I remember it! Darrell was a very attentive server, and very efficient; he was quick to serve us water, provide menus, then drinks, and made sure to confirm our order so there wouldn't be any mistakes. The food came out quickly and our two pastas and salad (highly recommend the cilantro lime chicken) were delicious and very generous portions.
