I found them at a Farmer's Market called Biggers Market! This place has everything! When I say, everything, I mean it! I never knew there was a thing called strawberry onions. Like, onions grown near and in strawberry fields! Super cool! I actually visited this place 3 times while in town for 7 days. By my second and third visit, the cashier recognized me and thought I was a local. I wish!! I told her that I'd be back because they had great nuts! Lol.. she thought that was funny! The ambiance gives happy workers and a happy community that knows they can bring the kids and dogs, have a few local brews on the weekend, get a great pick from fresh veggies, to fresh seafood, dips, fresh breads and jams, and anything else you may be looking for! This place is winning! I WILL be back!!

I didn't go in that one it was pretty crowded but lot of people at picnic tables enjoying the food.. they had samples of hot apple cider which was soo good! They had a variety of ciders.. strawberry , peace, apple , blackberry! And a booth to get coffee from hidden grounds downtown, a seafood market, and of course produce and gifts.. they had a nice section of baked goods- muffins and different breads! even sold their branded merchandise. You could even get a beer to drink with meal! Very cool spot wanted to stay longer but with Christmas holiday it was super busy but I recommend going! Very family oriented.. today it was cool out and they had fire towers outside to keep you warm.. lots of Christmas tree selling fast.. they bag for you too..

The first half of the summer was spent attending the Shorehaven Beach club, a Bronx beach club for lower middle class families like ours. It was a great outlet for me. I made lots of friends outside of my normal circle and enjoyed so many incredible activities like paddle ball and swimming and got to see incredible entertainment like Steve Lawrence and Eddie Gorme. I knew I would be leaving for Israel the end of July in 1969 and so I spent the first part of the month going on a diet. Things were very different those days. We had no concepts of fats and proteins and carbs and how it all works. Those days, everybody advised you if you wanted to lose weight, that you should either eat a can of tuna fish drained with nothing else or cottage cheese with cantaloupe. I could not bring myself to eat that can of tuna so I literally lived on cantaloupe and cottage cheese for a month. I lost weight but I could not stand to see either of those foods for quite some time. The second half of the summer I spent working on kibbutz Ginegar in Northern Israel. I had all kinds of jobs from feeding cows and chickens to picking fruit to cleaning pots in the dining room. When work was done and dinner was finished, the favorite activity for all of us young people would be to get together around the fire and eat watermelon. Sometimes we would sneak down to the community kitchen and steal one. We had so much fun singing songs and laughing and eating watermelon. That was the summer of 69! Well, I'm here to tell you in the summer of 2023 that there is no fruit stand that compares to Angie's Fresh Produce on Long Beach Road in Southport. I have stopped their intermittently over the last few years and have always loved how delicious their fruits are. I have not yet tried any of their vegetables or other offerings, but I have a feeling they are fantastic as well On my way to the beach the other day, watermelon was on my mind and so I stopped by Angie's. I always ask one of the women there to help me. They know exactly what to look for to pick me out a good one. Then I noticed there were these huge beautiful looking cantaloupes selling for $3 a piece. I told the woman to pick me out one of those as well. I came home, chilled both of them, put them on the cutting board and cut a piece and I absolutely died. They were so freaking delicious and so sweet and so perfect I could not believe it! OMG! SO DELICIOUS!!!!! For the last 2 days I have been chipping away at that cantaloupe and watermelon, never getting tired of its freshness and incredible taste. I'm heading back to Greensboro tomorrow and kind of excited that I have half of each yet to enjoy. My trainer, DeMarcus loves watermelon and cantaloupe and so I'm going to give him a slice tomorrow morning during our workout session. Maybe he won't be so hard on me! lol The rest I'm going to devour all by myself! The next time you are in the Southport /Oak Island area, you must must stop by Angie's Fresh Produce on Long Beach Road. Make sure you get one of the ladies there to help you. They are always spot on and they always pick out the most amazing melons. Enjoy!

I was looking for a place for my daughter to get the energy out and, with good reviews, headed toward Riverwalk Park. It just so happened to be their Christmas market and fair - with face painting, vendors, special treats and games. My little one could have cared less about the aforementioned happenings. She cares about playgrounds and this park had one of the best we've seen. It was crawling with kids, so even better for entertainment! She played for hours. There was plenty of space, nooks and crannies for kids to run and do their own thing. The equipment all looked in good repair and the park was very clean. Everything is surrounded by mature trees so the playground was shaded during our visit. As lunch approached, we walked over to the water for some calm & relaxation. There are a couple of boat ramps, though I believe I was there at low-tide as one looked inaccessible. There were also a couple of swings to sit and look out over the water. I noted a walking trail as we were leaving and would certainly return to see the rest of the park. I was very impressed with my first visit here.
