Mind boggling that these guys are still in business. They did not show with the correct material/parts to correctly do the job even though they were at my house 3 times prior. They kept tring to shove an extra wire through conduit that was too small. I asked, "is this going to pass inspection?" I could not believe his reply. "There is a 60% chance that it will." Sure enough it FAILED inspection from the city! The inspector told me the reason they do not allow that size conduit to have multiple wires is that the wires can get damaged when running them through. These are large wires for a 200amp installation. So instead of replacing the wires that could have gotten damaged they just yanked out the wire and used it anyway. Now I have to worry for the rest of my life that my house does not burn down. Home Depot is just right up the street so they could have easily done it right to begin with. They even waited nearly 4 months to contact the city for an inspection. This was Joel Mates the owners son that did the job. Trust me, this guy would NEVER do this shoddy work to his own house. Homeshield sent Dan to repair our overhead kitchen light fixture. He told me it was the ballast. Later told my wife on the phone he needed to replace the whole fixture and quoted $450.00. He didn't even take the cover off the fixture before giving the diagnosis. We decided to replace the ballast ourselves for a whopping $18 and about 20 minutes of labor. I called my home warranty for a concern with an outlet that had arced. Mates electric sent an acknowledgment of the warranty request, which was followed up by a phone call to schedule an appt, which was set up without delay. Dan was running a little late from when he called the day of service, but was well within the window we set up, so I don't consider that late. He was knowledgeable, friendly, he didn't rush the appointment, and he explained everything in a way that I could understand. We ordered a bathroom fan repair thru my home warranty service. Communicating with Alex and Dan, they couldn't get their scheduling right. Promised me that they would come out no less than 6 different appointments, and then no-call, no- show, no reason given. It's not fun being stood-up. There is no follow-up or apology. (I'm from out- of-state, and waited all day and then until 9pm on the first repair attempt). This has gone on for months. Very unprofessional, what a headache. Spending way too much time on a silly little repair. I'm now having to pay the home warranty company another $125 to find a new home service repair tech guy. read more

Requested service. Was told they would arrive 8AM-Noon. Worker did not show. We texted the business and I received a text that they would reach out to electrician. I received no follow up text but a separate automated text that the worker Adam was on their way and would arrive in an hour. The day proceeded and the text had included a link of the workers location. The workers location didn't change and no one showed by the end of the day. Complained to home warranty program and we were told we would be assigned a senior electrician. Worker (Adam) did eventually reach out over text pand say he had scheduling conflict. NO. YOU NO SHOWED. THAT IS A COMMUNICATION ISSUE. Later. Received text which I responded to and I said today would work and I asked what time. No response to that text and question. Received automated text and email with 8AM-Noon window. NO SHOWED AGAIN. read more

The main power line was torn from our house by a large limb coming down. PGE could not even begin their work until we took care of our part of the damage. This was during the latest snow event right after Christmas. Every electrician I called was either closed or slammed beyond capacity. Dan could tell that I was desperate. Drove to my house, assessed the damage and began work the very next day even though that meant us working into an already full schedule. His work was meticulous. I called Mates Electric because I needed someone to hook up a range hood to existing wiring in my rental home as soon as possible. I'd called my regular electrician, but they were booking out 5 weeks for this very small, but important (to me) job. Dan took my call and was highly personable, professional and helpful. He offered to work the job in by the next day and at a very reasonable charge. The next afternoon he arrived, completed the work efficiently, and called me (the landlord) to let me know that the job was done. Such was the quality of his service, that my tenant texted me on her own initiative to say "The electrician came and went in about 30 min. He was was fabulous. Good choice.... Very professional and friendly." I've added Mates Electric to my personal list of reliable home repair service providers and will gladly recommend the business to friends and family. read more

Very unpleasant first impression: This company came highly recommended by another person in my HOA and I called to arrange an appointment/bid. The person answering the phone refused to even acknowledge that he worked for any business, then demanded my name first and hung up when I couldn't respond fast enough. I looked up the number again to verify, then tried again... Only to have the same person give me a lecture on appropriate phone etiquette (again while refusing to acknowledge that he was associated with the business) and again hung up on me before I could even apologize for any misunderstanding... which I feel should have been unnecessary in the first place. So, good luck trying to get services from these people. I guess if you are up to their idea of the "right" type of phone interaction they might give good service, but it's bound to be with a heck of a lot of unprofessional attitude. read more

This is the guy I'll always call for anything electric in my home or for my kids'... He methodically troubleshot a bad receiptacle... I had already replaced.. He went through all the processes, and step by step, found the culprit wire in a small junction box (not the breaker box) in our basement. I would never have found it..
