I came to Mathews to get my graduation gown, stole, and hood pressed. I called to make sure they offered the service and I dropped it off with no issues and friendly staff. The service was also going to be done by the next day. When I got home from picking it up, I noticed that the stole had some lines on it (which were not there before) and the hood was very wrinkled. I took it back in and a woman working (did not catch her name) told me that the lines and wrinkles are because the material and it was nothing they could do. I understood but I was not warned that this could happen as I would have left it as it was before. I asked if I could get a refund and they offered to work on it again, but she just told me it was because the material. I kindly declined and asked if I could just receive a refund. The woman got very angry and upset. She did "not want to argue" and took cash out of the register and walked away. I will not be back. If you are a graduate looking for your gown to be pressed, do not come here. read more

When a client asks you if you can clean something and it is not possible, say NO!!! Why the F do you say yes and then F up my jacket. I spent years making it and sewing it together only to have it ruined in a day. Unbelievable. I understand that I was attempting to wash a garment that was altered with patches, that is why I asked if it could EVEN be done. For anyone else out there that has a rock/punk jacket, DO NOT dry clean it. Not here, not anywhere. They will say they can do it, and it will only cost you 11 bucks, but you are just paying them to destroy everything you created. Thanks a lot Matthew's Cleaners. I've also had some minor hemming or seam requests for their tailor. They have a two day turn around and have never missed that timeframe. The ladies are always very polite and professional. There's parking as well as a drive thru option so it's also super convenient. Overall, I have no complaints and no reason to take my laundry anywhere else! read more

This Yelp review is long overdue, as I've been going to Mathews Cleaners for close to a decade now and they have always done phenomenal work. The drive-thru is an incredible time-saver, and the people who work there always go out of their way to please. The latest example: I found myself in a pinch when I realized a specific dress shirt I needed for an interview the next morning had some marks around the collar. It was literally 12pm. I called over and asked if there was any way they could get a shirt done same day; they told me to bring it over right away. Dropped off the shirt and they told me it would be ready by 4pm. It was clearly an exception but they took care of me without question. In the end they only charged me the same-day price as well. I couldn't thank them enough. Their prices overall are very reasonable, and their Tuesday morning drop-off special is legit as hell. Other dry cleaners I've used over the years will try to wow you with a bells and whistles or a fancy location; Mathews just gets the work done at a great price. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! If I could rate this business zero stars I would. Dropped off my $200 traveling backpack that is BRAND NEW that I used once to get cleaned. When I went to pick it up I noticed it had a huge burn hole in it so I gave it back to Nancy at the drive through window who apologized and said "I'm so so sorry I think I know who might have accidentally done this, I'll let the owner know and have him call you" A week went by and never heard from the owner James or Jamie as he goes by. He had his store manager Gail call me saying that there is no way that that happened at his store. I explained to Gail that my backpack was BRAND NEW and unfortunately it did happen. I said I wanted to speak to the owner directly and she let me know she would have him contact me. James still never contacted me himself. So after 10 days of getting no where I went into the location. Gail got him on the phone and I explained how it was brand new and why would I drop off my backpack to get cleaned with a huge hole in it. He basically called me a liar and said it didn't happen. I then asked for my $20 charge to be refunded and stated how unfortunately I am going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, he then told me that he wouldn't refund me my $20. Funny how he states on his company that he wants "to provide the best customer service". TERRIBLE customer service especially after ruining a customers belongings, wish I would have read the reviews first, as this isn't the first time. I don't know how someone like James is still in business honestly......very rude, absolutely no sympathy or apology, and very unprofessional. read more

The true test of a business is not in whether or not they make mistakes, but in how they resolve them. The fact that they ruined my pants while hemming them was one thing... but the fact that no one ever apologized, the owner kept promising to call me and never did, and when they finally did offer to reimburse me for my pants they called back the day I was supposed to pick up the reimbursement check and said the owner changed his mind and was only going to give me 40% of what I paid for them.... Those were the real mistakes in my opinion. It would've been pretty easy and reasonably inexpensive to resolve a mistake with integrity and turn me into an advocate, but that didn't happen. read more

I thought that was already pretty late for such few items since I dropped it off on Friday morning. I arrive on Monday at 4 and I'm sitting in my car waiting for at least 15 minutes to be told that they thought I was supposed to pick it up the next day so my jeans weren't pressed yet. The least that could have been done would have been a phone call. After a 6 month experiment, Matthews Cleaners carried the day as the best overall dry cleaning experience. Whether it's Gail (she's worked there for well over a decade) greeting me in the morning (she'll open the doors ten minutes early on an average day) or the folks in back sewing on buttons I didn't even notice were missing, Matthews really stands out from the competition. In four years of patronage I have had only one hiccup (the new girl gave my clothes to someone else). They eventually got my clothes returned, dry cleaned them all again, and credited me a sufficient amount. Needless to say I was pleased with their professional and timely response. Their prices are a tad higher than the folks around the corner, but in the end they're worth the extra 20 cents per shirt (and on Tuesdays it's 15% off your entire bill, so it's a wash... pun be pardoned). After twelve months of good service, I started having issues: 1) A shirt was ruined (ripped). I was given a $20 credit. 2) I took a pair of dress slacks in to have a belt loop repaired. When I went to pick them up, the repair had been forgotten. When I finally picked up the repaired pants, the belt loop had been replaced. Unfortunately, it had been replaced with another loop from the same pair of pants! That's right. The seamstress had used another loop, which left a loop-less section in the pants. I've been going here since 2008 and have always been pleased enough with their work. Probably most important is the woman who works there most days. I'm kind of embarrassed that I don't know her name, but I'm guessing it's "Gail" from one of the other reviewers? Anyway, she is very sweet and friendly, and perhaps most impressively, she always knows exactly who I am by name. And not just because I've been going there for five years; she started to remember my name by my 3rd or 4th visit. I usually drop things off on Tuesday mornings because you get a 15% discount. I've never had any complaints until recently, when they lost a shirt. (Most likely it ended up in someone else's order, which can happen sometimes.) Often people will return a misplaced item when they find one in their order, but so far no one has stepped forward. Gail has been on the lookout for my shirt but still no look. So today when I went in to drop some things off, she offered me a credit since no one has come up with the shirt yet. I said "Yes, I'll take it!" I'm not going to live or die by one shirt being lost; sh*t happens. Now if it starts happening regularly, we may have to talk. But one shirt in five years is not the worst record in the world. read more

My wife and I have had pretty decent service here. I'm not a hundred percent certain we've used their dry cleaning but we have had several pairs of pants and coveralls repaired here for very cheap. The turnaround may be a little longer than what I'd call reasonable but at the same time there's tons of clothes in there so maybe it takes a while to burn through them all. The drive through window is super convenient, several times on my way home from work I've remembered and popped in and just given them my first and last name, no receipt, and drove off with my article. I've never had a problem with these cleaners and am a fairly regular customer. I remember going to this place with my parents when I was little so it's been a North Park institution for a long time. Prices are reasonable, cheaper on Tuesday mornings...usually the items are ready in 2-3 days. I sometimes point out the stains I want them to remove and they always succeed at removing them. An added perk is the drive thru option which is great when you are running errands. They dry cleaned and boxed my wedding dress for about $175 before I sold it and it was pristine. Never had any tailoring done so can't speak to that. Sounds like not everyone has a great experience here but I've not been let down yet. read more

Don't go here for your tailoring needs... I brought in my jeans to get hemmed... The lady who took my jeans didn't even take any measurements off of me! The inseam of my jeans were 36"... I wanted my jeans shortened a couple inches so my jeans wouldn't drag on the floor and shred... My jeans were shortened... But they were still too long!!! Disappointed! read more

My only gripe is that the guy at the counter accidentally (?) charged my debit card twice. I noticed this on my bank statement the next day and went back. I was given credit (woohoo!) for a few dollars more than the amount that I was originally charged twice for...which was a relief! My experience is that my shirts and slacks are always returned clean and pressed. However, I've asked to have a button sewn on a pair of pants, it just never happened. Again on a dress shirt, never happened. I'm local and this place for the most part is legit but I wish they would not agree to do something and then not deliver. read more

this place is right around the corner from me, and it has a drive-thru window, so i was totally stoked to get my comforter that my dog puked on dry cleaned there. my boyfriend dropped off the stuff on a wednesday, the day before july 4th, so they told him to pick up the stuff on friday. i went back friday to pick up the stuff and they couldn't find any of it. then they said to come back monday because it wasn't done yet. my boyfriend went back monday to pick up the stuff and brought the comforter home. it smelled all gross and musty. it didn't smell like dog barf, it had a new bad smell. so my boyfriend brought it right back, they apologized, and he went to pick it up the next day (at the end of the day) and had to wait on it since they weren't done with it yet. then, someone hassled him about them having cleaned it twice. upon smelling it when it came home, it still didn't smell fresh. it smells line-dried. they ARE pretty much pressing and ironing and cleaning stuff outside...you can see when you drive up to the window. anyway, i really wanted to like this place, so i'm sad. :( read more
