Last year our daughter was on the verge of failing her 8th grade math with the possibility of repeating her grade. In horror we watched her struggle with homework and with tests. All we could do was feel her pain and sorrow with all of her efforts going down in vein. No amount of focus kept her from spiraling helplessly. Out of frustration and deep concern we deided to take action. My sister had talked to me about Mathnasium and so with a sense of urgency I enrolled her. I found out the cost was not cheap but I had decided to try it anyway and soon she was attending the math tutoring program after school. I was immediately shown the location of her skill level with a performance test and a comprehensive chart that identified her strength and weaknesses. To make my point about the Westwood Mahnasium's proven record we saw our daughter, in a period of 4.5 months, go from a heartbreaking 'D minus' to an uplifting 'A' in her final grade, It was an incredible story of joy, courage and comeback for the win. My daughter loved the independent way that she could get her own notebook (w/ her name on it) and scan it and it was easy and organized for her...the kids (grad. students in Math from UCLA or similar) really seemed to know their stuff and were pleasant for her to work with...although at busy times she really had to wait to get her "turn"...and I liked the accountability and constant feedback...I love the documentation...and Chris, in charge, was the absolute best guy...really available, approachable, and kind. It was a bit difficult to get to (for us) in busy Westwood traffic at times (the hours made it tough...I would have appreciated an earlier start to the day for homeschoolers & more hours on Sun.) and the lack of parking is a drawback...but, overall, for the fluency it gave my daughter in math...well worth the effort...(Unfortunately, it is a bit pricey & it probably limits the client availability...could maybe come up with package discounts?) Still, if you need to engage your child in math in a way that will serve to upgrade their report card and standardized test scores, you couldn't do it better than Mathnasium! read more

Amazing school, as far as environment, teachers, and skills that they are teaching my son. At 5 years old, he is finishing up a program for 2nd graders. He absolutely loves Mathnesium (he actually calls it Mathgenius) Guys at Mathnesium created a custom program for my kid at my request after doing an assessment. Teachers are great - all of them with no exception, and this is coming from a parent whose son gets along with very few people. One time I was few minutes late picking up my son and when I walked in, I saw him playing chess with one of the teachers (learning to play) after his class - this was awesome. I highly, highly recommend Mathnesium to anyone whose kids either show interest in mathematics, need a little help in school, or just want to develop the mathematical way of thinking or just be in a great environment that does not include gadgets. We did a math assessment at Mathnasium for my daughter who has been struggling with math at school and she did show signs of not grasping grade level work as we already knew. We were not prepared to sign our daughter up that day due to the cost which was an unexpected expense we didn't plan for. After a night of consideration we knew it was the right decision to give tutoring a shot. Dan the manger was very professional curtious and responded to our calls text and emails promptly. Our daughter has been a few times already and the staff is very sweet and greets us with a lot of warmth. Really nice feeling each time we go. We also got great recommendations from neighbors, that have been sending their children there as well, which helped us feel great about the place, one of which has college age kids so again we feel great about our daughter being in very capable hands. Mathnasium is amazing! I first put my son in the summer sessions to prepare for 4th grade. It made a tremendous difference. He felt way more confident and prepared going into the school year. We continue to go before every upcoming test and on days where he cannot do homework on his own. It is worth every penny. Chris the Director is incredible with kids. He makes sure every child that comes in is welcomed and has the patience of a saint with every last one of them. He is also the best multi tasker that I have ever seen. Our son had been struggling with Math, partly because of a traumatizing Math teacher he had in elementary school. He started going to Mathnasium as soon as he started middle school. What a difference! His proficiency went up sharply and quickly within a month or so, and he started enjoying math. It is a pricey program, but they are very good at what they are doing. Our son now pretty much looks forward to going to Mathnasium; no nagging required! He is now an A student in Math, and enjoys getting better at it. Mathnasium is a fantastic resource for students! My 8 year old daughter started working with a tutor at the end of August and by the end of September she had a 34% improvement in her monthly assessment! I can't say enough good things about the Mathnasium on Westwood Blvd. From their math staff to their admin staff they are all professional, kind, patient, and have not only a great grasp of the subject but as well they are totally tapped into the different ways that kids process learning. We joined Mathnasium when my daughter started middle school and was placed in an advance math class. She needed more regular instruction than she could get from her teacher or an at-home tutor. The Mathnasium program is very flexible - she can get instruction any or all days they are open and at any time without an appointment. The tutors are very knowledgeable and you can access the online tracking system to see what and how your child did that day. Mathnasium has definitely helped my daughter success in math!! read more

We would be lost without Mathnasuim this year. My daughters are both in AP Calculus and were feeling completely lost before they started working with one of the tutors there. Let me just tell you that mathnasium of Westwood was a life saver for us. My 5 th grader was struggling in math. But not any more after we started here. We are returning to Mathnasium today after a brief hiatus. It is a great place for kids struggling with math. Chris the Director is an absolute wonderful person who makes you feel welcomed and takes a special interest. This facility is pretty lucky to have him. This was a great place for my daughter to get ready for specific state exam. I gave them the parameters of the test and they made sure that she was proficient in those areas. She said the tutors were very helpful, attentive and they were good at directing her in how to solve the problems on her own so that she had a better understanding of that math concept.
