Matisse is the definition of a hidden gem on Chicago's North Side. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was warm and welcoming, and the service was spot-on and attentive without being overbearing. The food? Incredible. We started with the garlic parm wings and quesadillas, and I'm not exaggerating when I say those wings are some of the best I've had in Chicago! They were perfectly crispy with a garlicky kick. For mains, my friend ordered the beef tenderloin (melt-in-your-mouth good) and I went for the Devil's Chicken. The chicken was juicy and bathed in a tomato sauce with olives, capers, white wine, and garlic...... an absolute flavor bomb. Drinks were another highlight. They make their own syrups and juices, and you can taste the creativity in every cocktail. Dessert sealed the deal: the bread pudding and mango crème brûlée were both outstanding. Bonus points for the heated outdoor patio that stays open until November and their late night hours which is perfect for lingering after a night out. Matisse has been holding it down in the neighborhood for 24 years, and it's easy to see why. This place deserves all the love.

Good beef tenderloin, excellent service and crafted drinks. Cozy atmosphere on a cold, rainy night.

We had heard about the great burgers here for years. We finally popped in to this tiny neighborhood restaurant. The burgers definitely lived up to the hype. Charbroiled to juicy perfection, paired with Parmesan fries. Yum! Extensive bar menu. Cozy decor and lighting, great attentive service. This will be a top neighborhood fave going forward. Only drawback is on street parking is limited.

What a hidden little gem this is! Looks like a regular bar from the outside/inside the bar. Food is very good and they have a pretty extensive/creative cocktail list. I got the beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes and aju gravy on top and it was so yummy! Definitely want to go back for drinks & to try more things on the menu. The server mentioned they keep their patio open pretty late into the year.

Went here 2 days in a row. First night we just had drinks. There is a HUGE selection and service was so quick and efficient, everyone was also really friendly. Second night, we went back for dinner and shared a steak crostini and pasta with thick bacon and truffle oil. Insert *Drools* it was so good. I wish I didn't share it and ate the whole thing myself. So decadent and flavorful. Now the restaurant itself is pretty small but can fit a lot of bodies however the outdoor patio is nice and spacious. Great tavern with great food

We arrived at our hotel late. We were staying within walking distance and this was the only place still serving food that we could walk to. The employees were very welcoming even though we were so late. The food was awesome. They had a great set of local beers on tap, and the bar was basically empty, besides us. They also play great music here (new age alternative). I would 100 percent come back here.

This is the type of place that I've passed by a million time and always wondered what it was like. I'm glad I finally took the opportunity and tried it out. It's a cozy bar and grill with upscale food and a greet patio. First, the food and drinks were very good. I tied their Moscow mule. It was great and made with their homemade ginger beer. For food I started off. by ordering the Cuban spiced won-tons. For my mains, I tried the thick truffle thick bacon pasta, beef tenderloin and the matisse mac-n-cheese with steak. For dessert, I had the chocolate obsession cake and mango creme brûlée. I enjoyed the beef tenderloin and the thick truffle thick bacon pasta the most. The desserts were excellent and the waiter told me that they are home made. Second, the atmosphere was great. I went on a Thursday night and enjoyed the cozy ambiance and foodball on their TVs. Third, the service was excellent. I went on Thursday night and I got table right away. My waiter was nice and food came out quickly. This is a must visit restaurant.

Fantastic food, I've gotten burgers and their appetizers are great too. Excellent fries. Deep beer list which their staff are knowledgeable in and can talk to you about any of the brews listed. Great great spot

Excellent atmosphere and staff. We were staying next door at the Hotel Versey for a night. I got the Masterpiece Burger that was juicy and flavorful. My partner got the warm beet salad which was surprisingly delicious. I say this because I do not like beets. The balance of the ingredients made it extraordinary and an experience.

We started with a bunch of cocktails (I wish I remember the names.. but they were all so good!). Food to start, we ordered the Charcuterie, and the House Made Pretzel. We were obsessed with both! The charcuterie did not skimp out like some cheese/meat plates do.. it was a satisfying amount that we kept going back for more. The pretzel was outstanding, twisted and hot, perfectly soft and salty. To eat, I split the Gretel Griddle Burger and the Fried Chicken Sandwich with my friend because although we were there for the burger, I kept reading about the chicken sandwich being fantastic. Booyy they were not wrong!! As much as I loved the burger, the chicken sandwich was my favorite! Perfectly crispy, with this sweet and spicy glaze and the crunchy Asian pear slaw... OMG. I'm still dreaming about this! One thing we were excited about were the Elote Riblettes.. but I wouldn't order these again. I accidentally bit the whole thing and didn't realize they kept the core in, and I had to spit it out. And even after eating it properly it didn't feel like I got enough of it from those little bites. Loved the fries though! We didn't see a dessert menu but we would have definitely been interested in that. After all the drinks apps and the chicken sandwich I was feeling so full so I couldn't finish the burger so I got it wrapped to go. But let me tell you even when I reheated that burger the next day.. it was fantastic!! Overall we may have been the loudest and most obnoxious group (we get a bit excited haha) our waiter and the vibe were all matched! Genuinely loved this place, and looking forward to coming back soon.

It took awhile for the one waiter to come to us. We could also see only one cook in the kitchen. Took exactly an hour to get our food. I chose the 7 layer salad as the picture from the owner looks beautiful, it is really 7 layers!! The actual dish is nothing like that! It is just a regular mixed salad dish. While I understand that the picture might be outdated sometimes from customers, but if the photo is from the owner, you probably should update it if you changed the dish!! Then there is the service. The restaurant is empty when we showed up. We thought it might because it is 2pm already so lunch crowed is gone. The server tried to sit us on a corner while there are so many nice seats there. We requested a more comfortable seating. After a disappointing meal, then we waited for a long time to get our bill as the server was in a different room doing something herself. We had to go grab her. She dropped off bill, then she disappeared again. We had to once again to get up to find her... with just one customer on the house, I can't imagine how busy she is for paying no attention to her customer. I will never come here again for sure!
