That's because it's a 60s retro building hidden in Paradise Circus but showcases some amazing musical talent. I went there for six years whilst learning to play the sitar and was amazed at the number of concerts that are held there. Most of these are performed by musicians who learn here, but the Conservatoire has also played host to some big classical artistes from around the world. The nearest parking is the Town Hall car park close to the Mailbox so if you have others with you that find it difficult to walk, you're better off dropping them nearby first. The building is in desperate need of a facelift and the facilities are outdated. A large coffee shop or bar would be useful for concert-goers too.

In fact, it was ranked top first with the Royal Academy last year, in a national student survey. Nuff said. It continues to produce world-class performers and composers, such as John Webb, Jean Rigby and, errr, Rhydian. As you would expect from a conservatoire, there is a very practical focus to the courses studied here, with numerous concerts and gigs for the students to gain experience in performance, and ensembles, orchestras, choirs and bands to get involved in. The conservatoire was the first music school in the UK to have an active research programme, and is internationally recognised for its developments in electro-acoustics. All in all - top dollar.
