I have been with State Farm for many, many years and they cover my home, car, and boat. I have…read morenever had a single claim, until last week. As I was reading Dann K's review below, it almost mirrors my experience.
I live in a small neighborhood, and I estimate that at least 70% of them have also filed a claim for hail damage to their roof. As I look out my window I see my neighbors with new roofing supplies on their roof, ready to go after a swift and efficient claim to the competing company, Safeco.
I had a roofing company come out to look at my roof. I went up on the roof with them and saw that there were many impacts. The roofer told me that it was fairly extensive. Since the hail damage, there has also been a leak that was affecting the living room. My claim to State Farm, however, was denied. The claims adjuster went over her findings but seemed a little rushed, as she told me that she was heading back home to have wine with her neighbors. It was a beautiful Friday afternoon, but really? That was more important than taking time for a customer with a loss?
In all of these years, I have talked to my agent ONCE... Once! That was while signing me up for the State Farm policy. Since then, there has been nothing. After my claim was denied, I received a call from the agent's office. I thought "great! He is finally getting around to speak with me." But no, that was an office member, who was very nice and listened to my concerns. He told me that he would speak to Mr. H. The next morning and have him give me a call. I got that call the next morning from the same person. He said he did in fact speak with my agent Mr. H. And that he simply referred me to the claims adjuster. This felt like a slap in the face. He offered to have the agent contact me, but I declined - Why bother? This staff member should not have to - The agent should be there for his customers.
I have no idea what I have an agent for, and this leaves me with a terrible impression of the company. In fact, the roofer told me that State Farm typically turns down 90% of the claims for this kind of thing. This is extremely disappointing.
Given all of this, I am very concerned that State Farm would not be there for me, should there be a loss (I sure hope not) in the future with the home, boat, or car. I will contact their corporate office to let them know about this experience, as well as ripoffreports.com. Since State Farm was not here for my loss, I will be going to another company such as Safeco, which stood by their customer during a loss.
