We first visited this location in November 2021 right after moving to the area. Based on my previous reviews, you probably know that we frequently dine at Matt's in Fenwick Island, and we've also stopped by the Lewes location a couple of times. We love the Sodel and Matt's restaurants; they consistently deliver great experiences and fantastic happy hour oyster specials. For this visit, we dropped in for happy hour just after 3:00 PM on a Sunday and sat at the bar, which was wonderfully clean and welcoming. Although I skipped the cocktails this time, we shared 18 Virginia Chunu raw oysters for $18. I also had the New England clam chowder ($8), though I personally prefer the version at the Fenwick location, and a plate of six delicious lobster deviled eggs ($12). Our bartender, Hannah S., was exceptionally friendly and provided top-notch service. The total bill came out to $55 before tip. I met a friend for dinner on a Friday night in Early May. Matt's was not busy. I was a bit early so had a light beer at the bar. Bartender was friendly and helpful. Bar very clean. For dinner they gave us a large booth. Very comfortable. Waitress was friendly, helpful. I had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and the soft shell crabs. My friend had jambalaya. Both very enjoyable. Oatmeal creamwich was expertly presented and was by far a winner... alluding to little Debbie snacks, but with a gourmet interpretation. Crust on the key lime is beyond compare. Inside Matt's, it's bright, clean, and welcoming. They have a huge parking lot, but the interior is quite small - hence the recommendation to arrive early for HH. I was excited to try this restaurant on our last night in Bethany Beach, but left disappointed. The lobster deviled eggs were one of the main reasons we decided to eat here, but they were pretty bland. The "lobster" consisted of maybe half a teaspoon of minced lobster topping each egg. I ordered a caesar salad with chicken and it arrived without croutons. I asked the server about it when she returned to the table and was told they ran out of croutons and were making new ones. I assumed I would get some fresh croutons. A while later, another server came over unprompted to tell me they were making croutons. Cool, I thought, croutons on the way. I never got my croutons. The rest of my party also thought their food was pretty unremarkable. There are much better places to eat in Bethany - try Patsy's. read more

Driving in Thursday and called to verify happy hours around 4. The guy on the phone said happy hour was from 3-6. So we decided to skip Matt's in Lewis and head straight to Bethany. We got there just after 5 to be told in person happy hour ended at 5!!!! That was frustrating. Too late to make it to any other happy hour by then and went home as dinner parking was complicated. The parking lot attendant also was trying to navigate all the cars coming in as the lot was full and someone after us snagged an end spot that wasn't really parking spot and got out despite me and one other waiting for parking to open. That was wild and they acted like they didn't see us. Not sure why we couldn't have parked at the end. It wasn't blocking the street. Also at the other SoDel days later at Catch54. My SIL got her blocked in with my 2 nieces for more than 1hr in heat after eating. They ate super fast because one daughter gets cranky. Wasn't told that outdoor was happy hour only until they had already been seated inside and handed menus. She said ok that's fine we'll order from regular menu. Ordered a bunch ate up and spent time - over an hour struggling with a "this happens all the time we asked everyone no one claimed their car" experience. Well despite there only being a few new people sure enough 2 ladies came out finalllly and said they were NOT asked if that was their car that blocked the drive way out. Well IF IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME then WHY isn't there a parking attendant like at Matt's Fish Camp? Or Giant signs? Especially when you're serving both papa grande and catch 54 overflow parking. It was a HOT 90 degree day in the sun waiting for 2 ladies to finally move their car who apparently were not asked despite the crew saying they went table to table asking. read more

We've been here many times (more than 20 times) and had great food, but this time was very disappointing. We brought our son and grandkids. I had the vegetable fried rice and added on a $20 crab cake. The rice was not "fried" rice. It was like boiled rice with no flavor and few veggies, the $20 add on crab cake was minuscule And I can't believe how small it was. My husband ordered jumbo fried shrimp and they were very small. He had the same meal two weeks ago and they were real jumbo shrimp, much larger. They were not even 16-20. Not even close to what we paid for jumbo shrimp. Our grandson got the kids fried shrimp and they were bigger! The French fries were not hot - room temperature. The kids had green beans with the kids meals and they were burnt. I hate to say, we will not go back here again - not sure what happened to the place but extremely disappointed in the quality of the meals. My wife and I went to this restaurant about three weeks ago. The food was good, the beer was refreshing on a very warm day. The only reason I didn't give it a five start is because I am disturbed by flys in the restaurant and apparently nobody tries to remedy the problem. I have to believe flys are getting to the food in the kitchen. On the upside, the service was excellent and the waiter was very attentive. Matt's Fish Camp is a cute lil seafood restaurant near the beach. My husband and I stopped by for lunch before walking around Bethany Beach. The inside was very clean and well decorated. The servers are very friendly, quick, and knowledgeable of the menu. The food was pretty good. I ordered the grilled salmon with rice and beans, a daily special. It wasn't my favorite -- grilled salmon could've been cooked a little less and the rice needed more seasoning. But I tried my husband's blackened tuna and it was amazing! I also loved the oysters and the cocktails were strong. I would come back, but I'd probably order something else for my entree next time. read more

We rolled in after a late morning on the beach. Everyone was welcoming and service was friendly and prompt. My wife had a lobster role and I had the clam po' boy and we shared an order of steamed clams. Everything was cooked perfectly. We also had a spiked frozen lemonade and a couple orange crushes to wash it all down. It's a cool little spot with a perfect small beach shack vibe. Could easily be on king island or in a small coastal New England community. SoDel spots are all pretty dependable and Matt's is right on par. We'll be back. read more

After a great visit with my nephew, we went to Matt's for lunch. Neph had the crab cake sandwich with potato chips and slaw; I had the fish and chip special with slaw. Both of us pigged out and were very happy with our choices. My fish (cod) was well seasoned, crunchy yet moist. My chips (waffle fries) were also crisp and well seasoned. Best part: I didn't even ask for malt vinegar! (Second best part: no mushy peas. IYKYK...). Food 5/5 stars. We had lobster Deviled eggs and peel and eat shrimp, the eggs were done well and had a good taste everyone enjoyed the shirmp. For dinner we had fried shrimp, Matt's jambalaya and crabcakes. Being from Maryland we were pleased to see the crabcakes come out with all meat and no filler. The taste was fantastic and since I could not have the fries I swapped out for seasonal veggies which were green beans and squash. Food was excellent! Service 5/5 stars. Our server was great! Very attentive and extremely knowledgeable about the menu and how things are prepared. I am gluten free and he advised me on choosing sides, since he knew the fries use a shared fryer and had cross contamination. Ambiance is cute. Very small space with lots of tables but the dining area did not feel cramped or like you were sitting on top of another table. This was hands down the best place we ate at while in Bethany. I love the retro/midcentury, almost "diner" vibes inside!! There isn't a lot of seating, so I'd recommend coming early or being prepared for a possible wait. The wait staff were extremely friendly and our food was prepared quickly! For my meal, I had the crab dip. It was FANTASTIC! I loved that it came with kettle chips (and they were also great). The hush puppies are also amazing, and they came with a cinnamon maple butter that perfectly complimented them. Every single person was extremely happy with their meal choices here. I was really looking forward to visiting Matt's Fish Camp restaurant. Especially, to reorder their famous lobster roll. I was craving one for a long time. We had visited their Rehoboth location on our last beach trip and were big fans. Unfortunately, the Bethany Beach location was not as good. The restaurant was lovely, with beach decor throughout. The people who worked there were as nice as can be. Our waitress was sweet and answered all of our questions. The cocktail that we ordered was delicious, it was a spiked lemonade with Tito's vodka. It was cool and refreshing. I ordered the lobster sandwich with fries. The fries were hot and fresh. The lobster sandwich was quite small and for $29.00, you shouldn't have to look for the lobster. The taste was bland and truthfully, it didn't taste fresh. My son got a chicken salad and his chicken was way overdone. I realize that it was during there busy season, but the quality of the food was not up to standard. When, you are paying premium prices, you want food that is delicious and full of flavor. I was in town visiting a family member and he asked me to find a place for us to eat. It was me, him, and his three kids. Since he wanted some fish and his son wanted something with crab meat, I thought this would be a good choice. Matt's did not disappoint. It was definitely worth the 2 hour drive to discover this restaurant. That lobster Reuben was everything! Oh my gosh, it was so good and they did not skimp on the lobster. There was plenty of lobster on that sandwich. Plus the coleslaw & cheese, & the bread was extra buttery. It was perfect. Who knew I needed a lobster Reuben in my life? I completely understand why it's one of the most popular sandwiches, and not to mention they serve it with plenty of hand cut fries. That's the way to my heart. I love hand cut fries! I also tasted the crab balls and they were delicious. Lots of crab meat with a little bit of filler. For dessert, I had a oatmeal cream pie. This ain't that skinny oatmeal pie wrapped in plastic from the grocery store. You know the one I'm talking about; this was a hundred times better. I also tasted some of the chocolate dessert with a coffee ice cream & a few bites of key lime. All the desserts were pleasing to my palate. Shared 3 appetizers amongst the two of us and we were full! They are large portions and can easily be shared. We got the onion rings, crab dip, and calamari. The onion rings were ok- they had a great crunch and were huge but there wasn't as much onion as I would've liked. Some rings even had the outer shell of the onion skin. Pros: the homemade chips complimented the crab dip well. Also, be sure to get a slice of the lime pie! It was delicious and tart and creamy and had great coconut flakes in the crust. Yup - it's really that good here. Matt's Fish Camp has that magic fairy dust of a restaurant where the ambiance is authentic, the servers are total pro & the food is freaking awesome. There's another Matt's Fish Camp in Rehoboth but I can't believe they've been able to recreate the personality of this place there. Anyway I digress... I love the main menu but I always look at the specials. Today I ordered off the specials. Farmer Bowl & Ah-mazing jalapeño lime wings. The wings were juicy & crispy w just enough heat... My husband got the lobster Reuben and man that was that crazy - the bread was super fresh & never greasy. Not too much Mayo & lots of claw meat! He could only eat 1/2.... Need I say more? Coffee & the states best key lime pie & I was ready to fall over with the most incredible food buzz. The sun glittering off the water across the street finished lunch off perfectly. This is about Ambiance. We have been here before and the food is great! Last time we were here, we got a nice table inside without problem, and ordered the swordfish special, which was awesome. it was off-season. So we are here right now, but I am burning up due to the parking debacle we just experienced. Thinking it might be crowded, I had called before we left to make a reservation. However, a recording says they don't take reservations. Big mistake, because there is not nearly enough parking. We didn't mind waiting-that was expected. However, upon arrival there were no parking spaces. We were directed to park alongside the road adjacent to the parking lot behind three other cars and one us was to go inside to give our name. The problem began when the kid directing traffic told my boyfriend in a condescending matter to move his car forward. There was no one behind us and moving forward meant blocking a driveway. So he moved forward. No sooner did he do that then a biotch lady who was trying to leave said driveway came out. Then we saw the kid instruct the people in front of us to move off road encouraging them to keep backing up to the point where they almost hit some chairs, that someone left for the garbage outside their house. I was getting incensed, and my boyfriend said he's not going to move into that area. However, when it was our turn, the kid kept pushing us to move. He told us to move forward, then the manager came out and said that the people needed us to move back because they now needed to leave THEIR driveway and that's when I lost my temper! They need to get another parking lot or have people call in for reservations like a normal restaurant! read more

We have dined at Matt's for many years for both lunch and diner. Crab cakes are delicious, drinks are well made. The lobster roll is yummy.

We stopped by for a late lunch and were turned away because we had a stroller that was apparently against the fire code. There were two other people in an otherwise empty restaurant and the staff weren't willing to move chairs for a stroller or offer other options for us to get food.
