My wife, daughter and I decided to start by sharing a garden salad and an order of deviled eggs to get things going. Salad was upscaled with mixed greens and assorted veggies, but those unusual deviled eggs made with lemon, mustard and lump crab really surprised out tastebuds! My wife's lobster roll with a side of crabby fries was a food coma inducing pair. Tons of large lump lobster meat in a light mayo dressing made for an excellent sandwich, and those crabby fries almost put us to sleep right there at the table! Daughter's chicken pot pie was piled so high it was literally flowing out of the bowl and made for some great leftovers at our condo later in the week. My shrimp-n-grits were ahhh-mazing! One of the first places I left a yelp review at about two years ago. There appears to be a few locations near Rehoboth beach but this exact one was very easy to get to once you get closer to the beach. I've always came here around late lunch so never really had a wait getting seated without reservations. Service is super friendly and the food portions are size-able. I usually keep it simple and go for the lobster roll which I find to be very delicious. The appetizers are really good as well and enough to share for a group of 4. Cocktail and beer selection is pretty decent. Overall, just one of those places you should stop at if you ever come to visit Rehoboth beach. read more

We've been to Matt's (Lewes location) around five times now. It's our favorite spot to bring friends from out of town. The staff is always great, kind, and happy and the food never disappoints. It doesn't have the same corporate chain feel that some other places in the area have. We ate here for dinner earlier tonight and enjoyed it. We showed up without a reservation around 7:30 on a Thursday night and were seated immediately, which was nice. We sat inside, although their outside seating looked like a chill vibe. Our waitress Jazz crushed it and did an excellent job as well. As for the food, it was delicious ! I really liked the bowl of clam chowder. The crab cakes were solid as well, with more meat than filler. I also tried a bite of my dads haddock, and it was money!! Our bed and breakfast host recommended this place for good seafood. It did not disappoint. We ordered takeout and then got an order of raw oysters and fries at the bar while we waited. The oysters were wonderful and the bartender was very knowledgeable about them. The happy hour house pinot was better than expected, as were the super crispy fries. We brought a seafood penne alla vodka and a lobster salad home with us and they were delightful. Like, so good we ate them on the bed, and just kept swapping the containers back and forth. And they were just as good the next morning. From the outside this place looks like a normal fish hut, but inside it's been very thoughtfully decorated. The restaurant is between Dewey & Bethany, sort of all by itself on the Coastal Highway with residences & condos around it. Wow! If you're ANYONE other than a White patron (or even if you are a person of color and come in with a Caucasian, you are automatically seated in the BACK of the restaurant where the big "LOBSTER" light-up sign is!) It's like the 1950's and 1960's before Civil Rights Laws were passed here at Matt's in Lewes! If you're Black, sit in the BACK! (or if you're Asian or Hispanic as well apparently). Sadly, I found a Google review (Which I won't post here of course) from an Asian woman who came in with her White husband and they tossed 'em in the back as well! I talked to the Turkish male server named Umut B. who I told about the condescending looks and the fake grins from HIM and the young blond female hostess at the front AND a couple of the servers who I had to pass to be ushered to the back of the bus (I mean, restaurant). He proceeded to TRY to tell me that he has black friends and that they DO serve people of color without any hassle. I told him that I REALLY find that hard to believe...BUT since I was leaving DE after a medical convention and just wanted to eat and hit the road for my 2 1/2-hour trip home, I decided to stay, eat and leave ASAP. The food was mediocre at best and somewhat overpriced anyway, so Matt's didn't impress there either. The New England Clam Chowder was a joke. Mostly potatoes and VERY few clams. Campbell's Chunky New England Clam Chowder in a can sadly has more clams in it! The calamari was just ok and the shrimp and grits were lumpy and just a few shrimp thrown in. The alcoholic beverage I got was strong and helped me get through this VERY bizarre and pricey dining experience. As I was leaving in a fast pace after paying the bill, the blonde hostess (didn't get her name) tried to say "Bye...thank you for coming, etc". She was ignored and I hastily made my exit. The restaurant manager didn't bother responding after I left a negative review elsewhere and was referred to the President at Sodel Concepts, who owns this chain of restaurants. Not sure if I want his offer of a free meal on him or not. Probably not worth the drive back there. I'd love to be reimbursed the $60 cost of my meal though! He did apologize though after we connected on the phone yesterday. Also, that he has been to the restaurant on the lookout for bad/inappropriate staff behaviors AND has alerted the Operations Manager to my negative experience. Additionally, he did state that they are attempting to diversify the staff there by recruiting outreach to HBCU's like Delaware State University. But agreed that good help is hard to find, especially at low salary rates AND that they KIDS who work there are mostly immature and don't know how to deal with people post-COVID. I made it crystal clear that I'd never be returning here and will be boycotting this location and other Sodel Concepts restaurants in DE (There are thankfully none in PA or NJ). read more

The ONE crab cake was $20 and had too much filler and much less crab than what I can buy locally and cook at home. The wedge salad was great. Love that waiter Jon Michael said a warm hello and introduced himself and said he'd take care of me! And he did! He was clearly busy inside of the restaurant and I was seated outside on the deck. He was unfazed when I went in and asked for my lobster roll to be made traditional rather than warm. I was excited to try the deviled egg with crab and they were overpowering with too much mustard and paprika flavor (see photo). I managed 1 egg and stopped. When I said I didn't like them they were removed immediately (from my table and my check) and manager Julyette stopped by immediately to ask my feedback to share with the kitchen. I was impressed as she seemed genuinely concerned and wanted to make it right. The lobster roll was amazingly wonderful! The lobster claw and knuckle meat was cooked perfectly and was tender and flavorful. I think I tasted a hint of tarragon in the dressing and it all balanced nicely. The bun was firm and not made soggy by the lobster filling. I almost felt transported to summers in New England! That good! I upgraded the chips to salt fries and they were delish. The Matt's brand orange vanilla cream soda was unique and refreshing. I had such a pleasant experience today. I will certainly seek this place out next time I'm near by! We came for their HH deals, which takes place at the bar, and took advantage of the buck a shuck for the local raw oysters and clams. This was our first time having raw clams and we're hooked. I never leave here without getting a plate of them. Cocktails complement seafood dishes and are well made and strong. My favorite is the watermelon vodka drink, very refreshing. Our go to dishes are the crab cake sandwich and the warm lobster roll. Good amount of fresh seafood in both. Their fried calamari is also tender and crispy.
