It was surprising and certainly amazing to find this prayer wheel in a stupa just a block or so off the quaint main street in Paia. We were invited to offer our prayers and blessings while walking around the stupa clockwise, simultaneously releasing the prayers and blessings of others before as well. Found an unexpected find in Paia, Maui. A place to listen to a calming chime as you walk through the temple. There was no one there to guide me. Place some money in the donation box in appreciation of letting people enter the temple. read more

As a practicing Buddhist, I wanted to visit some Buddhist temples in Maui, and was sad to learn that the three in Lahaina burned down. Fortunately, I was able to visit the Maui Dharma Center. The Maui Dharma Center is a beautiful, warm Tibetan Buddhist temple. It has a small, lovely, peaceful garden. And the stupa has a prayer wheel inside. I spun the prayer wheel and said Metta for all beings. While the Maui Dharma Center may seem new-agey to some tourists, it is a real Tibetan Buddhist temple. If you can time your visit, they have services on Thursday mornings. The Maui Dharma Center is a must-visit on your next trip to the island. read more

Something interesting to find if your in Maui. I figured if the Dalai Lama thought it was good enough to give his blessings to. Then it's good enough for me to stop in before lunch. Pretty cool. They got a stupa. Its quiet but Maui in general is pretty quiet. I stepped in and did a few rounds with the prayer wheel. If you're into the metaphysical or holistic lifestyle. You'll find it interesting. It's more for new agey type. Most others just go to the beach here. I liked having the experience of spinning the prayer wheel by myself with no distractions. Just me and my prayers intentions and affirmations. Giving thanks. I'm lucky to be able to visit Maui anytime I want. Lucky to find this place. Grateful always. Most of the time if someone is inside the people waiting to go in let the individual or group have their time to pray privately and spin the wheel. It's huge so you walk along the circumference while spinning the wheel saying your prayer. You do a good two or three revolutions then let someone else go in. Nice people come here. Very much appreciate this sacred Stupa and Dharma Center in the heart of Paia town. It's rare to find such a holy place as this in the U.S. and especially one that is so accessible. The Stupa is open everyday from 6 am - 6:30 pm and was designed by the Resident Teacher the Venerable Lama Gyaltsen. After great efforts for it to be built, the Stupa was afterwards consecrated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. There's an exquisitely large wooden prayer wheel inside including decorative, colorful paintings of Chenrezig, Green Tara and Buddha Amitabha inside the small shrine room. There's a lovely-sounding bell that is rung each time the wheel goes around, a comforting reminder of the positive intention for peace, love and joy for all beings. read more

Aloha! Finally made it to Dharma Centre! I love the peace, loving atmosphere and kindliness around. It reminds me my wedding in similar place with Lama Ole. Don't hesitate to wonder around. People are very kind. Of course before you enter in somewhere, read instructions and respect rules. You are basically entering place which is for some ppl very very special. Another amazing place on Maui that I can't believe no one has reviewed. This is a beautiful place not to be missed and it is so easy to see while in Paia. The Dharma Center is a very short walk from the main intersection in Paia. Even if you not involved in the Buddhist religion you will be welcomed here. The Great Paia Lha Bab Stupa was completed in 2007 and is so beautiful you will be sad you missed it. The prayer wheel is beautifully designed and decorated. I believe the grounds are open from 630am-630pm and don't forget to visit the gift shop before you leave. "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. I have seen and been to many Tibetan Buddhist Dharma centers around the country, and never have seen one that is so accessible, in the heart of the bustling little town of Paia. The resident Lama Gyaltson is a true embodiment of patience and kindness, and a holder of The Great Teachings. It's a very active center, with daily practice and prayers. This center is for everyone, but please respect that this is a very sacred, religious place and pull out your inner dignity and honor please. I have seen mindless, stoned hippies stroll up in sandy bathing suits, barefoot and dirty, carrying with them an oblivious, self entitled attitude. Whether you want to simply visit the Stupa and send some prayers out, or whether you are a Buddhist Practitioner this center is very much alive with daily Dharmic activity, thanks to Lama Gyaltson. read more

I have stopped at the Pray Wheel at Maui Dharma Center many times during my day-off bike rides from Wailuku to Paia. Its a great way to refocus in the over-connected world we all live in. The at the Pray Wheel asks you to turn off your cell phone before you enter the pray wheel. On Sunday the Lama has services and I have sat in some of them the teaching are in Sand-script, Tibetan, and English. Teaching are made accessible to all in attendance. Good place to Stop for Maui residents and visitors alike. read more

The Dali Lama visited here and a high lama is currently residing here. They offer group mantra meditation, prayers and teachings on Sundays at 10am. They are there to bring love and peace. Traditional Buddhist Center, very nice people living and learning there, too. read more

This Stupa at the Maui Dharma Center was consecrated by His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, in 2007. The shrine is a sacred spiritual monument, an architectural expression of the Buddha's teachings. It has a large mani prayer wheel. Meditate on your prayers while turning the prayer wheel clockwise, and it will ring after every revolution. Cool! read more

Loved this little place in Paia! I was waiting for hubby and friends down the Hana Highway while they were hiking the Twin Falls Trail and I happened upon an article about the Maui Dharma Center. I consider myself a spiritual Buddhist, so I took note of the location and read that the Dalai Lama himself had blessed the massive Prayer Wheel inside. I did a search on my phone and realized it was literally down the street, about 15 minutes away! We had to go that way anyway to get back to our resort in Ka'anapali so I asked my friends to stop briefly so I could visit, turn the Prayer Wheel and pray the "Om Mani Padme Hum". It was right off our road, and we easily found it. While they turned the car around, I ran over, snapped a few photos, turned the Prayer Wheel and sang my chant. The bell rang twice and I burst into tears from the emotion of it. So beautiful. I was very moved and I feel incredibly blessed that I was able to visit this lovely shrine. read more
