Since we were already near Preston and Mr. Snarky wanted to stop in at a particular store, we drove in and stopped at Abakhan. I really loved the store in Manchester, so I was hoping for the same reaction here. Parking is a nightmare when it is busy. It is in a retail park with other stores, but my suspicion is that some park in this car park and walk over to the high street and shopping area since this is a free car park. Just keep that in mind as the car park was full when we got there. This store is a bit smaller than the one in Manchester. From the outside I thought it would be huge, but the top floor isn't very large, so it limits how much stock they carry. On the ground floor is fabric, but again I was after yarn, which was on the top floor. On that floor you'll also find sewing patterns, buttons, and foam forms for crafting. While the store did have some interesting types of yarn and some lovely colours, they didn't have the brand I was looking for so I could continue with my blanket. Maybe it is because I spent 50 quid on a couple skeins of yarn and a couple of hooks that I thought the yarns this store carried were quite expensive. There were books for sewing and knitting, but only one on crochet and I was a bit disappointed by that as I was looking for more patterns. It still offers quite a bit, but if you are looking for specific items, they may or may not have it. The staff weren't particularly helpful regarding ordering things in, but I tend to think that sort of service only happens with small, independent stores. Not bad, but probably won't be my usual yarn shop.

They have some fabric, embroidery thread, basic sewing tools, etc. They do sewing services and alterations as well, so if you need some curtains made or a dress hemmed up, this little shop is your place.

This is a pretty decent little wool shop for knitters. But I do get a little annoyed when shops tailor everything toward knitters and don't mention crocheting at all. I don't mind that the shop is called Knit-Wise--but maybe they could sell some crochet patterns as well as knit ones? I'd be a lot more tempted to return if they did.

Painted bright blue outside, it's a cute, old fashioned store with shelves and units groaning with a rainbow of yarns, buttons, threads, zips, patterns and knitting needles. Some of the stock is a bit too twee for my taste but the ladies that run the shop clearly make a conscious effort to try and keep up with trends and also offer crocheted and knitted scarves and babywear.

Mummy dearest used to buy all her wool here to knit jumpers for us lucky kids, she'd also get all the obligatory extras: needles, zips, ribbon and thread etc. To be honest, I didn't think Mayfair would survive the recession but it's going strong; perhaps people have turned to making and mending in the old wartime spirit or developed an interest in cheaper hobbies.

There's a mix of sewing and cross stitch materials and resources for handmade card and gift making. Supplies are available specifically for children. Workshops are frequently held at The Well Barn teaching craft skills such as jewellery making and decoupage. Klara's is also involved in community events such as the Summer Fete held in Little Crosby recently; while I was browsing, Klara was approached by a fundraiser requesting Klara's participation, by all accounts she is very active in community projects. I particularly like the fair trade gifts available at Klara's Crafts, they'e wonderfully made and quite inexpensive.

Klara has a BA in Fine Art so will certainly be able to help if you need some advice with materials for your own projects. My favourite product has to be Fimo which comes in 24 different colours. It is like plastercine but sets hard when baked in the oven. A cute little shop if you're feeling creative whether its doing some crafts with the kids or showing off your artistic side. There's also a nice collection of unique handbags to be tempted by and ladies you won't find these on the high street! Its always nice to know you have something that's not mass marketed.

It is nice and spacious in here so there is plenty of room for prams and wheelchairs. There racks are always filled with all the latest trends and when they have a sale they are brilliant! I am always the first one in when there is a sale here! I don't think it is that expensive in here really. They have nice roomy changing rooms and it is a very clean shops. They sell really pretty acccessories in here as well like bangles and necklaces. Overall a brilliant shop that i shop in regularly

Unlike the cheap-import-type shops around, this shop actually sells fairly high quality, nice clothing. I love the variety in styles--there's something for the girly girls, and something for the punk/goth chicks as well. My style is anything girly. I saw a lot of ruffled tops and flowing dresses, and the prices were decent, so maybe I'll come back when I have some spending money.
