From an instruction standpoint, the classes are fast-paced while maintaining quality lessons. The instructors have excellent control of the class and do a terrific job of teaching both the martial arts and life lessons. We signed up our son in the Panda (evening) class. He attended 3 classes but unfortunately on the 4th class, he was hurt by the same kid THREE times and none of the instructors teaching the class paid attention or saw this. I had to call out to the instructor, who was supposed to be his mentor and was present, to tell her this kid was purposely hurting my child. In one of these incidents, he made my son bleed. The kid has been allowed to stay and Matt informed he he'd be talking to the parents and the kid. He said to him it didn't appear intentional from the videos. Yet this kid made my son bleed, hurt him and ONLY him THREE times. Unfortunately my child, who just turned four, has refused to go back. Perhaps one of the first introductory lessons should be with the child and parents about respect and safety towards fellow classmates with zero tolerance for this behavior. The only positive thing here is to say thank you to Mr. Cristian who tried his best to support our son in an attempt to help him get back to class. You are a great teacher, kind, and friendly. You, by far, showed more empathy to my son and genuine care. You will make a great sensei one day. read more

I first enrolled my son into the karate class for the 21 day/ $21 deal. The 21 day deal also came with a karate uniform, which is extremely generous, because I would imagine that that alone cost $21. We decided to stick with the class and my son absolutely loves it. All the teachers in this class are very nice, works well with children, responsible, respectful, knowledgeable, and very fun. I figured this would be a great set of role models for my child as well. I pay $179 a month for my child. What I love is that they have about three different times available a day and you can come as you please. You do not have to commit to a set time, so you could really get your moneys worth for the price per month. We usually come on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and some Saturdays. This place is kept clean and conveniently located around many different restaurants, with plenty of parking. They even offer "parents night out" events where they offer fun, activity filled, child care. Even though we have not yet partaken in this opportunity, it's nice having the option and I hear the spots fill up fast. Along with martial arts, in every class they teach a lesson of the day on how to be a better person and make good decisions: Which I also find admirable. I definitely recommend MAX academy. It brings my son so much joy to be in the class. They recently had "mommy's day on the mat," it was a fun bonding time for my son and I and I hope there are more to come! I look forward in watching my son grow and progress in this class! read more

All the instructors make sure to greet everyone that comes in and go around talking to all the parents that are there . Great place for martial arts! I would recommend to anyone! My son and daughter is almost at brown belt and it teaches them self defense! Also at the end of the class they have a talk about the word of the month. For example " responsibility" which teachs them to be responsible etc! Would recommend to anybody! Our son attended classes at MAX (Panda and Junior) for little over 2 years and I have only great things to say: The classes are well structured with physically active time as well as sitting down time. They talk about different character traits in an age-appropriate way. The teaching is done in a friendly atmosphere, there is no stress or pushing to perform and/or achieve something. Your kid is motivated to do his/her best in a positive manner. If they don't succeed at something there's no shaming or stressing over it and pointing it out. The instructors are all very involved, many if not all of them learned there themselves. They know the kids by names and really enjoy teaching and are all great role models for kids to look up to. Our son is super shy but it didn't take him too long to start enjoying the classes. 2. We also had my son's 5th birthday party at MAX (it was before Covid, so not sure if they already started doing it again) and it was amazing. I give all the credit to Sensei Nick and his team of helpers (the young instructors who also help with the classes and/or teach). They all spent literary every minute of the time (2 hours) actively playing with all kids (and grown ups since they could not resist joining in when they saw the fun). It was well organized time-wise and very enjoyable. At the beginning they did some martial arts (including breaking the wood planks), then they played with nerf guns (they brought in a lot of their equipment to use as shelters and shields), after that Sensei Nick came in a inflatable dinosaur costume and let the kids chase him with padded escrima sticks. All kuddos to him!!! Sensei Nick was very easy to talk to about what we want and bringing his own ideas in as well. Grown ups had a blast being active with their kids too. Based on our personal experience MAX is a great place. read more

Max martial arts is a professional and great studio. Picking back up on martial arts again with my little background of it seemed weird to me at first. But the instructors and staff made me feel welcomed and were very helpful all around. I learned a lot about the art of Krav Maga and a lot of the style it encompasses. I think the Krav Maga program in combination with max fit is awesome for anyone looking to learn about krav and have your cardio enhanced. It truly is a great program. My time training here was short due to leaving for college but in return I learned a lot about krav/kickboxing, myself and made friends along the way. My kids have been going here for a couple of months now. They didn't have any interest in sports until we did our trial class here and they loved it!! The instructors are fantastic with kids! They are engaging and fun. The classes are a great because they teach martial arts but also make it fun! My kids look forward to class every day! From day one my son loved Max's academy! The staff is amazing! Towards the end of each class there's discussion time which teaches kids about respect, attitude, etc. The summer camp was great, my son had a lot of fun. Max Academy turns my bad days into good ones! I was watching "The floor is lava" on Netflix and noticed my sensei, from when I was just a little girl, was a participant. Come to find out he opened up his own academy close to home, so one random Wednesday I gave them a call and suddenly i was signed up! They were welcoming, informative, and helpful from the jump! Adult martial arts and Krav have become my favorite part of the day. Over the past 2 months I have learned so many useful defenses, made many friends, and have become more confident in my self protection! Although I partake in adult classes, I can confidently say that the instructors do AMAZING work with children! They bring enthusiasm, positive energy, and teach the children not only self defense but other important life lessons! Paying for self defense classes but getting so much more out of it is why Max Academy deserves 5 stars! I had my son in the class through the City of Brentwood trial and my son loved it! I really like that the teachers are all so patient and really try to get each and every kid involved. Going to the classes and watching how much the kids thoroughly enjoyed the classes and retained the lessons was great! When we first went my son was a little afraid and did not want to join in but Sensei Thomas was the one who waited patiently with him on the sidelines and gently encouraged him to join and not be afraid, Miss Mary is really great about talking to the kids like equals and making sure they keep trying and Sensei Matt is an absolute excellent teacher! Some classes have teachers that just care if you show up but Sensei Matt really seems to care about each individual kid and definitely encourages the kids to carry on the self discipline and respect at home which is amazing! I will definitely be signing up my son to further his martial arts training and hope to have him there for a long while! The only thing I do recommend is that they need to expand, the studio and seating fill up quickly! read more

We got involve with Max Martial Arts through an after school program at my sons' school. I have been meaning to sign them up for martial arts but wasn't sure which facility was the right fit. We did not have to look very far, it was a very easy decision to make to continue our training with Max Martial Arts outside of the school program. We have been with Max Martial Arts for almost 5 months and we love it! I decided to sign my sons up because of Sensei Matt and his team. They are amazing with children! They have such a soft touch and are so encouraging! My children have gained so much knowledge and confidence after joining. I love that not only do my children get physical training in the arts of taekwondo but they get lessons in how to be a good person. Thus far my sons have learned about Attitude, Focus, Respect, Fitness. All very important aspects of becoming a good person. My younger son has focus issues and this has helped him greatly with his focus issue. When there is a goal that he needs to reach, he works very hard towards it. I was very proud of him when he finally achieved getting his yellow belt. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Enough about how great Sensei Matt and his team is. Our boys really love coming here! The staff is really friendly and work so well with the kids. I'm really impressed with the way they handle large classes by splitting them up by ability level and also have them things together, too. Each group has an awesome instructor and the kids get a lot of individual attention.
