Came here for Happy hour on a Friday. Made a reservation in advance but place was kind of quiet for a Friday. I can't complain, but it's weird not knowing what to expect, since there are times it has been PACKED. No special HH menu but $2 off appetizers and drinks from 4-6. Their appetizer portions are legit. I ordered the peel and eat shrimp - spice was good but a little on the dry side. Their parmesan fries are AMAZING, especially the sauce! They just need to give you more sauce! Our server was friendly but seemed a little distracted at times - floated between being super attentive and ignoring us at times. They put two menus on the table so I ordered the breakfast burrito off of one of them, but then the server said that they actually don't offer that for brunch. My fish tacos had too little coke slaw and salsa to give the dish flavor. The fish was dry and not meaty. The lobster Mac and cheese was good. The rice with the tacos tasted like rice a roti packet. I love how casual and friendly this place is and their happy hour til 6 and all day and Thursday makes me happy. $6 Painkillers on HH are my favorite drink! And $2 off appetizers is awesome. This is one of my new favorite restaurants! The inside is decorated all fun and tropical, the environment seriously just instantly relaxed me and made me want to have a drink in my hand. The food is seriously 10/10! We ordered what felt like half the menu, including oysters, mussels, lobster rolls, fish entrees, lobster mac and cheese and more but I forget as it's been a few weeks. This is a seafood lover's dream menu, esp here in a land-locked state. Everything was so fresh and basically felt like I was in the Florida keys or something even with 20 degree weather outside. We were able to easily make a reservation for the three of us. I seriously hope to go back soon! Had the best time with good food and good drinks with two of my best buds. Saturday 1pm lunch, not terribly busy with back patio seating still available. This place is bigger than what meets the eye, with a sprawling inside, an intimate yet airy tiki bar out back with a comfortably shaded side patio and killer vibes. Live music was getting set up in the back tiki area. Atmosphere was on point for a hot summer day Upbeat Sea-Side jams with a relaxed and fresh atmosphere. Food was delicious, should have skipped on the fries and gone for a unique side... the fries were your typical fries. The fish was crust on the outside yet juicy on the inside. Lobster roll was fresh and not one but chewy. Only reason for the 4 star is the service was fairly lax to round out a full 5 stars. Our appetizer and food was dropped at our table by someone other than our server who then immediately walked away. We had to ask twice for silverware before we got any. Service was friendly, but not entirely prompt. Will be back! I'm also told the back tiki bar can be rented out for private parties and events. read more

If you like tacos and you like Corona (the beer kind), you're going to like Max's Grill on a Monday. It's a pretty good deal and I loaded up on all the tacos. Any more and they would've needed a second plate. Then again, tacos kind of already come with their own edible mini plates. Don't miss the chips and salsa if that's your thing too. I'm not sure who dislikes chips and salsa but I'm sure someone out there isn't a fan. For the rest of us, it's a good snack for the table. Just be sure the rest of your friends didn't also order them or you'll have extra. Good place overall; at least on a Monday. Got some great food for take out during the corona. Their pickup was super sanitary and safe, and the food well prepared for takeout. And the portions were very generous. We had the fish n chips, crispy and delicious, and a few orders of the fish tacos, also crispy and delicious. We also had fries two ways. One truffle, and one with bay seasoning. They were beer battered and godly. We went nuts on em. So addictive. Lastly the crab cakes. Holy crap. So well priced (they're doing a special during these tough times lowering prices for takeout, such generosity, so leave a tip!). And the crab cakes were very well portioned 2x3oz and let me tell you some of the best crab cakes I've ever had. Would definitely order for pickup again. Go support your local eatery! read more

I know they have non-seafood items on the menu, but I'd encourage you to go for some kind of fish. I mean, Gill is in the restaurant name right? We had the swordfish and striped bass. It's hard to say which was our favorite, but I'd probably lean towards the swordfish. I've also been and had the lobster rolls. I know $20+ for a sandwich seems like a lot, but you won't be thinking it once you start eating it. It was fantastic. To top it off, everyone was very friendly and they have an awesome fish tank inside. In the event you're on a rough date, you can spend your time watching the fish instead. read more

Then they got new management. And a few friends tried it out and said it was better. Still took me a year of hearing from friends to give it a shot. And they were RIGHT. SO MUCH BETTER! I've stopped in a few times the past year and it has been consistently wonderful. Food and service. They still have great specials, and they do one of the best crawfish boils in town. We arrived soon after 6 pm and we were seated at a cozy table by the fireplace and quickly greeted by "Laurel", our knowledgeable and friendly waitress. We started with some "Awesome crab cakes" and a martini, both of which were in time for their Happy Hour pricing. Doris ordered the Shrimp + Seafood Linguine and I had the Scallops with S.W. Cream Corn & Brussel Ragout w/ a side of Garlic Bread. Both meals were absolutely outstanding! My Scallops which are easily over cooked, were cooked to perfection. And the Shrimp, that is usually rubbery, tasted almost like they just came off the boat. We were so impressed, that we cancelled our reservations at Ocean Prime next week to come back here and dine again! Dress is casual, and some TV's scatter about, but the noise level was comfortable. Went to Max Gill for our last dinner in Denver during our short visit. We had a lot of good food during our stay, but this was our beat meal of the trip. Fine dining in a casual setting, comfy and quaint patio in the back, super friendly and chill staff, reggae playing in the background, and a menu full of lots of delicious options. The crab cakes were meaty, the fish dishes were delicious (swordfish and halibut), and the cioppino was amazing... Light broth with very generous portions of linguine, mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp, and crab. I'm a fan of this place, where you can get legit fresh seafood for a fairly reasonable price. They do change the menu from time to time, which is good to keep things seasonal. I think I like the summer menu better, mainly due to the tropical lobster roll, which was not very traditional but was very tasty. They do offer a standard version too, so don't worry if you don't want to experiment. I'd also recommend the shrimp ceviche, which in the summer version came with mango. They can change that out for other flavors in other seasons, I'd think. There are some non-seafood options, but why bother when you're at a seafood place? If you have allergies to seafood you probably wouldn't be coming here anyway. The current beer list wasn't great, but the cocktail and wine list was somewhat better. I liked the beer list better on a previous visit, but I guess that means they change that up occasionally as well. Obviously it's right on busy South Gaylord, so parking might be a challenge. All told though, it's a great place to go, especially now that the old Denver standby Fresh Fish Company has closed. This will probably be our go-to place for seafood now. read more
