They do have self-service tills which is handy, which is common in most Poundland locations. They had a slightly better selection of beverages than the nearby Merseyway store, but I once again struggled to find my Lipton Iced Teas, which I was looking for. 3* - OK, many similar/slightly better stores just a couple of minutes walk away, it doesn't really stand out but isn't terrible.

This is quite a large store, even with a Post Office at the back and a good selection of stationary. As with most places in Stoke, I feel a review for this place is really needed, as they hasn't been one for over 7 years. It is actually quite an unusual time to be reviewing this store with its' closure confirmed in April, with a likely relocation on the cards, although one hasn't been confirmed, which is a shame, as based on my visit today, this seems to be one of their better stores. This store is a good size, and isn't too big either, it has a decent range of books, a good range of stationary and parcel equipment as well as maths sets, tutor books etc. The staff here seemed okay, they didn't really stand out, but they seemed polite. The store seemed quiet on my visit, with small numbers of staff and customers in the store, They had one self-service till, which makes me think as this store didn't really seem busy, maybe they are right to be shutting up shop soon, as they are not getting the customers in. It's in a mid-floor position in the Potteries center too, so it is in a good location and I feel too large of a store ruins the vibe a little, this store is slightly nicer and more modern than some of my local stores in Middleton,Manchester and The Manchester Arndale too. It's a nice store, with good selection and average staff and in a good location, it is just a shame about the pricing of certain items, but still deserves a solid 3!

The shop sells books, dvds, music, calenders, diaries and magazines. The store is always spotless. The staff are friendly, polite and helpful.

A surprisingly large branch of WH Smith the shop front isn't huge and I'd expected it to be small…read moreinside, but not so as it goes back a long way! There's a large range of books, stationery and greetings cards, plus all the magazines and newspapers you'd expect. There are toys too and confectionery, but the best thing about this store (for me at least) was the lovely friendly staff who couldn't have been more helpful. As well as assisting me to find the things I wanted in the store, they also gave me directions to other shops in the town.

I have been buying my mountboard and backing from Tony for probably 5/6 years now, to mount my Camera Club Competition entries. This has not involved spending large amounts, but nevertheless every single time I go in I receive help and advice and an extremely friendly service from both Tony and Christy. On my most recent visit, Friday 9th Feb 2018, along with a fellow club member, we spent ages with Tony whilst he guided us and showed us comparisons of shades to use for double mounts which complemented each of our different 6 images. We had an idea what we wanted when we went in, but when we left we were no less than "gobsmacked" by his suggestions which of course we went with, and came away with prints which we we both so proud to say "we made these" when in fact Tony's expertise had really made the images something special. I must also mention that while Tony was helping us both, Christy was busy with the cutting, all this and no hint at all to us that Tony really needed to be off and doing his deliveries! So we must both apologise to him, and will promise not to do that again on a Friday afternoon! Christy also took the time to give me some advice I needed on using my own mount cutter. I had suddenly lost confidence with it after making some bad cuts, she was able to offer me some tips which I'm sure will get me going again. They do however have a nice selection of mobile phones on display for you to play with and test and i have found the service in there very helpful. The store is clean and tidy and well set out. Nice priced items but tends to be very busy around christmas time.

Waterstone's in Altrincham town centre is probably one of my favourite stores within the town…read morecentre especially after the closure of the Carphone Warehouse store which was virtually opposite this one. It is a fairly large and modern store and it does stand out more than most within the town centre's shopping street, especially with the dark nights drawing in through these cold winter months and it is one of the larger stores on George Street anyway. It does shut early but this is common in the town centre and I did find the store again to be a little understaffed considering I did visit at quite a busy time (Saturday, the run-up to Christmas). 3* - Nice book-store for a big town, obviously it is a chain and I feel a little uneasy about paying higher prices at a chain compared to online retailers unless it is at an independent book-store, again this store doesn't compare to larger branches in larger towns and shopping centres but still it isn't a bad alternative if you don't fancy heading into Manchester from Alty.

However, printing at home is only occasionally successful, unless you carry it out in a professional context and is often expensive. Therefore places like Max Spielman can provide a value for money service should you wish to print out your myriad digi snaps. The world we live in has never been so visually documented as our current age, with every nook and cranny preserved (unless a crazy electro magnetic wave of energy wipes clean the worlds servers, hard drives and iBerry Text Phones - et al) for future historians to unravel our dirty laundry and look into our strange, repetitive behaviour. My neighbour, fairly averse to technology recently acquired his first digital camera. With no computer to check the pictures from his worldly travels he can now take in his 'SD card' or indeed whole camera and download the contents onto their printing machine. If you don't mind waiting a couple of days and you have quite a lot to print off, you can get a really decent price for your pictures (a tenner for 200 prints must be far, far cheaper than printing at home). I still use this shop because even though I use a digi cam, the quality is just nothing like the quality I can get on my 35mm SLR: therefore I can still (thankfully) take in my 35mm film to be printed off (within an hour if you're willing to pay a premium). A digital SLR is on my ever pulsating wish list. Aside from usual prints you can also purchase camera's, memory cards, picture frames and other associated photo paraphernalia. The service is really friendly and helpful. For the best part however my (35mm) prints seem to be a little disappointing quality wise: if you were to be further up the professional chain then I'd recommend looking at the more pro shops or get in touch with somebody with dark room facilities.
