My Fiancée and I are college students and originally we were looking for a low cost gym that met our needs. We saw the lower membership cost of Max as well as a promotion for $19.95 per month. We decided that this would be a good place but that could not have been further from the truth. Max fitness does not make any of their "extra" charges known upon sign up and even when we asked about extra charges they did not mention that they would charge an extra $53 annually on top of other charges to where the total for our membership goes upwards of $30 per month. This angered me greatly as they are exploiting their members without giving them all of the information that they need. You are paying an absurd amount for a mediocre gym that goes behind your back to take your money. The cancellation policy is awful. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. There are many other gyms in the BR area, do not get drawn in by the big name. I am surprised that this issue is not as well known but it should be. read more

Loved the facility, always fixed anything that broke immediately, clean gym, definitely a good gym if you're looking for weight lifting. Lots of squat racks, never had to wait for one, lots of dumbbells and benches again, never had to wait for one. If you have to wait it's during super high traffic time and didn't take long before one was available. Gym is constantly holding raffles and events. The employees are friendly and welcoming. I am moving and I'm going to miss this gym so much!! Only issue is the weekends the hours are shorter, but it's awesome the facility cares about the employees and their own personal lives. I really enjoy this gym. It has diverse equipment which allows for a great work out. They have two of each machine which is a wonderful concept and eliminates needless waiting. The resistance band circuit area is unique. Speaking of unique, the movie room is a great way to catch a film and burn some calories. They have a fabulous selection of cardiovascular equipment as well. This gym is clean and well maintained. I have not heard or seen anyone being snarky to other members mentioned in other reviews. I also LOVE that they do short term memberships. They also do a range of incentives for members.My only complaint is that the house music is really loud. With nearly everyone using ear buds, you have to turn your music up really loud. read more

Went inside and was happy to see a deadlift platform... however while deadlifting ON the DEADLIFTING PLATFORM. Was yelled at for Not setting the weight down gently. I was currently going for a max set of 3 with 515 lbs... i was not yelling or grunting, or even dropping The weight. i controlled the weight every second it was in my hands... was asked to leave simply because they don't welcome heavy lifting. would NOT recommend to ANYONE. read more

A spacious, clean gym with a lot of quality equipment. Overall a great place to work out. Though I never used it, I love that they have a cardio machine room where you can watch a movie while you workout. It gets pretty crowded during peak times, but I've never had to wait too long to use anything. In my experience the staff has been polite, friendly, and helpful. Only complaint is that to cancel your membership, you have to mail in a cancellation form. Mail. In the paper mail. Like with a stamp and envelope and everything. They can't do it on the computer or over the phone. Just seems like it would be easier for customers and for their headquarters if there was an online system. Hate hate hate hate. I went here for a year with my college buddy. The facility is really nice, but their staff and trainers are terrible! I've never been to a gym and heard the trainers make fun of fat people on the elliptical or complain about how they have a "gross" old guy as a client later. It looks like they just hire a lot of immature jerks, but seriously? Why would you make fun of an overweight person for going to the gym and trying to better themself? Awful. This is an average gym as far as gyms go--okay equipment and bad hours. However, they do business in an underhanded way. They don't tell you 3 important things you need to know when you sign up. 1. They charge an annual fee of $42 which they claim they use for maintenance. Remember that they lure you with their supposedly low rates. But you need to add this $42 to the fee you'll pay them. 2. They have a ridiculous cancellation policy--2 months notice and a paper form sent by certified mail. At any other gym, you can simply go to the desk a month in advance and cancel, no problem. MaxFitness makes you send a form by certified mail to Georgia. From the date you send the form, they add another 30 days to when you can cancel--this is 2 months from the postmark date. This should really raise all the red flags for you. They are just trying to create obstacles for you and make it harder for you to end your membership. It is just cheap and unacceptable. They don't tell you about this policy at the beginning either. 3. They won't pro-rate your account--if you miss the monthly pay day, you have to pay for the full month. The problem with MaxFitness that affects you all the time is their limited hours on the weekends. On Sundays, they're only open from 12 to 5. On Saturday, they are open till 6. You need to think very seriously before joining this gym. read more

Scam. I submitted paperwork several times to cancel membership. Club still randomly charges me.

Completely ridiculous place only cares about your money, I cancelled my membership due to a surgery I had earlier in January and once I had I got all my proof they allowed me to cancel once I payed them $50, right when I thought I was done with that place they charge me again at a slightly higher fee than I normally pay but some months are slightly different than the others most of the time. When I called and asked why I was being charged she rudely told me that they charged me because I cancelled my membership 10 days into the month and was going to be charged for the remainder of the month. All in all I'm never coming back nor am I going to recommend this to anyone I know, in fact I'm going to tell them to stay far away so they don't get screwed over like I did. read more

This is one of the few places I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is interested in getting into a much healthier life style. The building is very clean and the atmosphere is very nice, every single person I met there was very nice and willing to talk to you if you want to make small talk or have a full blown conversation but most of the time, they generally keep to themselves which in turn is very nice to focus and concentrate. They have a tanning salon and they even supply a Yoga / dancing classes if wanted. If you're interested in giving it a shot, just drop in and have a talk with the receptionist and they will give you free trial to try out the location (Every day they host a movie you can watch while you're walking on the treadmill, check out the listings on the wall when you're there.) read more

DO NOT SIGN UP!!!!!!! They are VERY deceitful. When I originally signed up, I was told there was a nutritionist on hand who could help me throughout the week. That was far from true. He was NOT a nutritionist. He gave a generic list to everyone and suggested I eat broccoli and chicken for every meal like he did. He somewhat seemed to care about my workout journey, but he was soon replaced with someone else who requires a fee for ANY help on top of my $40/month membership. Also, they are very smart by "reading" the contract to you and having you sign electronically. I was never told the contract was a 18 month binding contract with few ways to get out. I was only told there was a $50 cancellation fee which did not seem like much because I already agreed to $40/month. I was NOT told the only ways to get out of the contract are if I become disabled, move to a location without a Max Fitness, or my contract time period comes to an end, and of course those three reasons require extensive proof PLUS the $50 fee shipped to Georgia not paid at the Baton Rouge location. This place is a SCAM! They took advantage of me and everyone else who I know who signed up here. Find any other gym to join because this one just wants your money. read more

The entire place is super clean. They have a huge variety of equipment. They even have a cinema area where you can workout & watch a movie! They play a different movie everyday! Also have tanning beds! Always has a trainer available in the morning & a trainer in the afternoon. All of the employees are helpful & friendly. The prices for their memberships are a good deal! I love working out here. It's clean, there's tons of free weights and not super conservative like Planet Fitness. The owners are awesome and even took 30 minutes to help get my keys out of my car when I locked them in. I love this place! I've been a member at a few gyms including this one in the past, and hands down this one is the best in the area. It had been years since I was a member and when my wife and I decided to rejoin the owners actually remembered us. That's what I look for in a gtm. BEWRAE when canceling membership. They will charge you an extra one or two months for your request to process. While they claim month to month membership, canceling is a hassle. They will milk you for an extra month or two. I've been a member for four entire years and they treated me terribly upon canceling. Otherwise great facility. Impressive place. I've been a member for a little over two months. I've never felt crowded, or had to wait on a machine. They have cool stuff like a large theater room with cardio machines in it, along with posted movies and times. Very clean and well laid out. Tons of TV's and individual listening devices to attach your headphones, so you can watch what you want, and hear what you want. I have yet to walk in or out without the staff greeting me or wishing me well. Their contract is pretty much the same as with any other fitness center/gyms I've belonged to in the past. Bad experience with this gym. I am in town for a couple of months from Colorado for work and I arrived at the gym to check it out, explained to the staff member that I am only here for a couple of months and would like a trial. He gave me a three day trial pass. I show up the next day, the manager says that the trials are for locals only. I told him that I already explained my situation to the staff member and he gave me a trial. The manager said "he must have forgot." Basically, I drove half an hour to try the gym. I asked if I can try it for the day since I was already there and was interested in getting a membership and the manager said no. Pre workout went to waste and left there pretty upset. Went to Spectrum instead, much nicer, a bit pricier but will definitely have my business. read more

The absolute worst experience at a gym in my life. I would NEVER RECOMMEND doing business with this location to ANYONE. I've worked out for 12 years of my life, 5 days a week, and have never come across worse customer service by owners in my life. I worked out at Max Fitness for over 2 years, brought in countless business, and recommendations. I even won contest for the business I brought in. My wife and I moved across town and sought a different gym due to convenience. I went to cancel at Max with only 4 month left, filled out the paperwork, and did everything their website says is needed for cancel. Never heard anything. I contacted the gym 5 separate times, left multiple messages, even spoke with the owner, John Goodwin, personally who said he would contact me, and never heard from ANYONE. They went ahead charged me for the next month without even saying anything and would have charged me the following month without ever contacting me. A whole month passed and no one EVER sent me so much as an email. Eventually, I ended up paying out the rest of my contract to never have to deal with these people again. Learn from my experience and NEVER DEAL BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. It's overly priced and incredibly crowded. Look elsewhere. read more
